Accord01 seems to be right, at least in terms of what Apple are saying as to why they have removed apps that enable Bitcoin transactions.

Here's some analysis from the folks at Gliph:
https://blog.gli.ph/2013/12/09/the-state-of-bitcoin-mobile-applications-in-the-app-store-and-google-play/

(for the TL;DR, they basically state what accord01 said: Apple says Bitcoin isn't legal in all jurisdictions apps may be served to).

This is kind of old news.  Apple does not allow bitcoin transaction apps.  Not bitcoin related apps.  The reason it doesn't allow bitcoin transaction apps is 1) though bitcoin isn't illegal, there are grey areas it enters in some jurisdictions because bitcoin acts as a hybrid currency/commodity, which scares some gov't though not the USA 2) Apple may start its own transactions app for bitcoin which is a rumor.

Dis allowing coinbase's app is a great thing for the bitcoin community, as coinbase is laced with fraud and dishonesty.

IIRC Apple has a longstanding policy of not allowing any payment methods apart from their system on iOS. They want their cut. Or am I mistaken? (I'm told they allow Paypal, but that that's more of an exception)
