No, fuckin, shit... Do you know that situation where teacher says to a good student that maybe flanked the test:"I've given you an extra point for the higher grade but be sure to learn this next time well"?

Recently I sew several merit giveaway threads in the B&H section of the forum but,  as I mentioned before,  it's really difficult to find many good and quality posts there,  posts which deserve merits.
I personally think that good members will get their merits any way and that they don’t need help with merits or merits giveaway topics.

- ban evading > ties up to loan defaulting
- loan defaulting > my account was collateral and the dude changed the password right away (deal was to pay him off from sig campaign)
- bounty spamming > that's one just wrong, idk where he got that one
- campaign cheating > mezmerizer's the 1st account that was a collateral, indijanos was account I've created after this one got taken away,  traktorista was my brothers' account that I used to post an "appeal", and this one is the newest one. So that's bs as well.
- account farming > borderline retarded
- account trader > idk where you got this from

This all happened from 2015-2018 when shit started piling up in my life so I took a break. Now I don't really care about trust since I don't give a shit a bout campaigns and I'm not back because of that so you can fuck off.

Am I the only one wondering why a ban evading, loan defaulting, bounty spamming, campaign cheating, account farming, account trader is suddenly concerned about newbies' ability to rank up?

 

Nothing wrong with that standard at all--I have pretty much the exact same position about giving out merits, and there really shouldn't be any other reason to do so since that's what the system was made for.

OP, welcome back and I say go for it.  You could also request that members PM you with links to posts they think are merit-worthy.  I've done that before and surprisingly my inbox wasn't flooded at all.  It's tough to sift through all the one-line nonsense posts in search of the gems, so giveaway threads or anything similar is a good way to go IMO.

Interestingly enough, there haven't been many threads about merit in Meta in quite some time.  I have the B&H section on ignore--is that where they've all gone, or have newbies kind of given up on the idea of ranking up?

It's not against the rules, but if you only have a few sMerit to give, you can do that without creating a topic. If you read a good post: Merit it!

Once in a while I go "full Merit source" on someone who's close to the next rank (by going through their post history and targeting just that user with Merit), but that's mainly because theymos overloaded me with sMerit.

Of course, that doesn't mean the community thinks it's okay to sell Merit. It's a bit like account sales: officially it's allowed, but heavily frowned upon.

That's what I'm saying, it can't be  because objectivity, but up/down vote would be a more realistic display since let's say 10 people find one comment helpful that person would receive one merit.

To receive merit, your post must look constructive to those who have merit but not necessarily to those who found it helpful.

It would be difficult to define other people's opinion by setting rules determining what should be merited and what shouldn't be. If this was ever to be the case, them users should not own smerits, an algorithm could be used to give merits to those posts which reach the criteria.
The human touch is what the merit system has, it may be flawed in some way but it doesn't need to be changed. Much less by adding an upvote or downvote system.

Because spamming gets you merits. So going by that logic:

- Those who got 98% of full amount to rank up will not be difficult for them to get 2%.
- Those who got 97% of full amount to rank up will not be difficult for them to get 3%.
- Those who got 96% of full amount to rank up will not be difficult for them to get 4%

.
.
- Those who got 1% of full amount to rank up will not be difficult for them to get 99% to rank up. So essentially, if you can earn merit, than you can earn merit and all merit giveaway threats are pointless.




"We need to encourage them to bring these to the board for discussion" Most of the stuff I learned about bitcoin wasn't from here. Not saying that I didn't learn anything here but what I've learned here has mostly nothing to do with bitcoin.

Most of those who ask stupid question on forum already know the answer but need posts.

Value of this forum comes from a couple of boards, dev and marketing.



I still think that merit system is kind of flawed in some way since it's not defined by any rules then just:"Give to what you think it's meritable", so with that if a threat requires for a specific answer, first 'correct' one should be merited and threat locked, but just take a look at those threads with 3 pages of dogshit information and the answer given in the second post.

Upvote/downvote system + merit would be better even tho I think upvote/downvote system is retarded on social networks or anywhere where you can express your opinion.

Exactly right. I also wanted to point out this thing. But unfortunately, It did not happen. Really it will not very difficult who already earned 99% of merits. He should change his mind if he has a lot of smerits[provably he has not]. In my opinion, 3-5 merits near of upcoming rank should be better.

I haven't seen any restrictions, but I don't think they are a good idea. I don't look in those threads, as I think it is a mild form of merit begging. I question the reason that the member wants the merit in the first place. The idea behind rewarded and encouraged for their posting content, and for their support of merit worthy threads. If we need to have these threads, then it means that there aren't enough merit worthy threads, or that the merit awarders aren't visiting them. In either case, we should address the problem, rather than taking the easy way out by checking the self-promotion lists.

There must be many new and junior members who have questions about Bitcoin and the Bitcoin economy. We need to encourage them to bring these to the board for discussion. Of course if the question is very basic, and can be solved with a simple Google search, then that won't provide great value to the forum. Always assuming that the Google answer can't be questioned.

Nobody stops you from sending whatever you want to anyone, but you will need a lot of Merits to do it.
It is better to spend time and search for good topics.

Creating topics forcing a lot of people to start SPAM to get more Merits, and those who get 99% of full amount to rank-up will not be difficult for them to get 1%.

Looking at the broad picture of the snapshot of the ranking-up pipeline, and crossing it with the merit requirements stated in the OP’s thread (lacking 1 or 2 merits), no Full member qualified (closest had 242 merits), no Members qualified (closest had 96 merits), plenty of Jr. Members do qualify (although logically posting content, trust and perhaps whether they are active or not should be taken into account). As of last Friday therefore, only Jr. Members met the OPs thread criteria.

It's interesting that recently I also had merit giveaway thread in the beginners section of the forum and offered merits to  newbie and jr members based on the condition that they have to report at least one quality post in the forum.
In several weeks I received only a few applications so finally I looked this thread.

Since there are many merits giveaway thread in this forum and I have not seen there is any restriction about it so it allowed IMO and I see you already done the job. So it is really good work to help people upgrade their rank by sending merits. Mainly the Jr member ranks account will be helped very much from here because according to DdmrDdmr's thread many Jr members need only 1 merit to upgrade the rank. And you also accepting participants who left only 1 merit to rank up.

Strictly speaking, you can't sell or trade your merits,  according to the rules.
Otherwise,  it's your personal choice and decision what to do with your merits.
Personally,  I like to help new members to rank up but not unconditionaly.
They have to offer something in return,  quality post which I can reward with merits, but it's my opinion of course.

There are plenty of merit giveaway threads nowadays.

Even though the last update was 6 days ago, DdmrDdmr's Bitcointalk Ranking-up pipeline- Those close to their next rank (lacking Merits) could help you find those users.

There is no strict behaviour on where you send your merits, so answer is yes.

That is your right in this forum, you are free to do anything for the benefit of the people.
Nobody forbids you, if you want to do the best for the people here.
