Monero - secure, private and untraceable currency.
I have the same experience. One thing is sure: Majority of people don't have a clue about what the money is, and what the money should be.
Bitcoin is the first real money in history of our civilization. Nothing less, and that's a huge thing.

The brain loses ability to be adaptable the older we get however it is still pretty impressive right up to old age.  The main problem is people get into routines and forget we are spinning around on a rock in space in a ever changing state.

Ignorance or apathy?

Apathy, idleness and probably also fear of change.

Sheeple man.  Herd mentality.

It's been beaten into all of us, to "trust what works" which is unfortunately is trusting our funds and finances with the old guard:

It's worse than you think. Thanks to mass schooling indoctrination we are still trusting our planet - and by extension the survival of our species - with capitalism.

You know how far the nearest star is besides Sol? We only get one shot at this game.

Even if bitcoin wins, humanity still loses if we don't unfuck this situation with tremendous alacrity.

Really nice picture ! i like it ! Jacque Fresco bring a nice analyse of  people and our society , look about it

"Most of the users on this forum (the ones that believe in the concept not the profit model) see inequity in the way financial systems and fiat are used and manipulated by governments. These users are hoping for a day when people can truly control how money flows worldwide and with that control help to make a more equitable world."

You can count me in this number as well.

"No one should lie to you and tell you that Bitcoin can't fail or the change will happen overnight just to garner your support."

Ah...and the rub is that there are and they do. Trust is a value hard earned. So easily lost.

"The change will most certainly take decades to happen and could take generations. But if you want to try to make a difference in shaping the future for your children or grandchildren then Bitcoin is worth learning about and using. If you simply want to make on-line payments without giving away your credit card or debit card info to every little company that pops up a website then Bitcoin is a good choice for that too."

Agreed.

You lead and I'll watch you walk away.
I'm not overly old (mid 50's). Neither am I overly intelligent or ignorant (imho), wealthy or poor,
impulsive or cautious.

I am not an IT person (for some reason my computer gives me choices when I power up and I
always choose F1 and then Enter...because that still works) I have a tower because a friend
(who is an IT) once told me that towers can always be fixed and laptops become lousy boat
anchors (I now have a few of them...and no boat).

I'm watching Bitcoin, learning all I can and really what it comes down to for me is no matter how
secret and brainy I would like to accumulate Bitcoin...or just register any holdings I just can't
see how there is any value in Bitcoin when fiat becomes more worthless than it already is.

Perhaps I'm being overly paranoid but my thinking is if there's systemic breakdown in the global
monetary system then, really, how much faith will there be in 21 million Bitcoin?

No matter how many times you slice it, adjust it, inflate it, there's just not enough to go around.

I can say that I've lived in interesting times...and these days just keep getting more interesting,
but I'm pretty sure I won't be around to see if that last Bitcoin ever get's mined.

For my immediate and foreseeable future all I can safely say is I'm satisfied to have both a place
in the valley...and one in the hills. Yet I will always keep my optimism and remain bullish for
humanity.

~may all hatred cease and let there be peace~

I don't really believe anyone here is looking for a breakdown in the fiat monetary systems currently in place in order to justify using Bitcoin. Bitcoin, at this point, is an alternative payment system. It has the unique feature of being under the control of "the great unwashed" instead of any single government entity. That concept, in such widespread use, is new for everyone. Bitcoin has problems just as all new systems do. Most of the users on this forum (the ones that believe in the concept not the profit model) see inequity in the way financial systems and fiat are used and manipulated by governments. These users are hoping for a day when people can truly control how money flows worldwide and with that control help to make a more equitable world.

Thanks Lethn, I have a feeling you're right...but I don't go there (BIOS) and my IT friend
went elsewhere. For me it works just fine. Pressing two extra keys is way easier than the
brain wallet I'm working on.

If I do get into Bitcoins and it all goes to shit and the government finds out I have some
and want them then they'll have to figure out a way to pry them from my cold dead brain.  Wink

~peace out...in~

Sounds like it may be something to do with your boot order in the BIOS that kind of thing Tongue just thought I'd let you know but if it's something on startup, it's usually the BIOS.

People are just fucking ignorant, welcome to life, the politicians in power don't vote themselves in unless it turns out they've covered up election fraud extremely well.

Your turn will come. How do you feel about pinterest, snapchat, high-school memes, planking, bronies and tumblerinas? Imagine in 30 years the world has changed so much and people are born in new technology that nobody needs or cares about (nobody being you).

There is hope, if Apple made a 6" iPhone after 10 years of small expensive trinkets, nothing is impossible.

Remember, everyone out there reacts to ONE aspect of Bitcoin. If they're not a fan yet, try another angle, it's impossible to not find something that convinces them.

It's not just old people. Someone on this forum posted a link to a website for gamers with an article on the news that Microsoft will accept Bitcoins, the comments section was crazy. I have a feeling most of the people posting are young.

Here's one comment "Bad, scratch that, horrible decision. There has already been numerous incidents of corruption and hacking of Bitcoins. Either where someone has has theirs stolen through hacks and all their Bitcoins came up missing or where people hacked and got billions of bitcoins illegally. Untill we improve the way we handle digital data I don't think this is a good idea." and "IOUs > Bitcoin" and another "must be great for the 12 people that use bitcoin" and another "Next step, you can now pay for xbox content with monopoly money"

It was pretty sad seeing all the people who hated the idea of being able to pay with another form of currency, simply because they don't understand and/or have never looked into it.

I guess all of the people siding with PoS over PoW are the old people and all siding with PoW over PoS are the young people. Members of this forum can't even form a unified consensus about how secure Bitcoin is and what to do to make it foolproof. It may not be an age thing either. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed if he can be from Austria and know the local German Mark history then store his money in fiat anyway.

Most people really are that ignorant, and "senior citizens" (the polite term for old people these days) often don't want to admit that the world has changed around them since they were young'uns. You should try using Bitcoin for your purchases and maybe more people will get curious when you subtly let them see what you're doing.

The revolution will be monetized!
Consider his life experience. When he was young money was understandable. If something is $5, he hands them a $5 bill. As he grows up he see the rise of electronic payments. People start using credit cards and other systems that start siphoning off percentage points from each transaction and unholy contracts with a million traps to get you into debt. Being an IT guy he sees how little work is being done and how mathematically insidious the fee structure is. This turns him against buying on credit. Which is a logical and a good idea.

Now comes bitcoin another electronic payment that is even harder to understand and more distant from that $5 bill. After so much baggage he is not even willing to look at it. Instead he assumes it is some kind of corporate trick to take a cut of the transactions for Wall Street.

I don't know the guy so this could be totally wrong. My point is the guy could be acting sensibly and not hating on bitcoin. He could just be so skeptical that he does not feel its worth his time to investigate. Bitcoin is so different that many people are confused by it. Perhaps this is more true of people who hold a little knowledge on the subject. Such as an IT tech or a banker. They have per-conceived notions about money and the way it works. That is no advantage in bitcoin.
