I have an asrock h110 still running rock solid since many years. The only thing you should watch out every 6 months is dust formation that can shorten the hardware average life.

true some dust can cause micro shorts. so a good dusting every once in a while is in order.

I'd like to add this: an higher short risk is always caused by combined factors. Dust in a smaller degree isn't a problem, but little dust + high humidity can seriously hurt the boards very quickly.

yeah true. also the actual dust/dirt content can vary.

Our warehouse has a ton of diesel trucks go in and out. So we get a dark grime and regular dust. That grime is partially made of diesel fuel.

It is conductive. So we have a lot of filters and we do a deep clean 2x a year every board a 99% Alcohol bath 2 times a year.

We finally found a better filter which has cut the grime down a lot. Between the deep cleaning and the new filters the control boards all work a lot better.
What percentage of boards do not work for you after bathing in alcohol?
I have not worked with ASICs, but with video cards, I prefer to blow through video cards and not tear them apart for no reason. But there are no diesel trucks near my farms.

Found a gigabyte ga-h1110-d3a and asus b250 mining expert in a cupboard in work. Boss says I can have them FOC. Wondering if worth building a system around these two boards as I know they are quite old now. Dont mind doing the leg work if worth the while

Thanks in advance

Gigabyte b250 version is available but dunno about asus one, not interested they dont have dvi or vga out, only hdmi, which is not recommended for mining monitor, sometimes it wont display anything, better vga or dvi, nothing go wrong with that, pure stable
I always connected the monitor to the main video card in the first X16 slot, I did not use the integrated video card. The old monitor is connected via an HDMI-VGA adapter. If there is no image from the main video card, then I connect to another. On the case of the mining farm, I make a mark to which video card I need to connect, if necessary.
Well in my experience using onboard gpu for monitoring or applying config or testing oc, is more stable than direct using from gpu, for miner this best time to buy 2nd gpus, if in the future miner not profitable like good old day, sell the gpus with decent profit while new gpus stay expensive with fancy new features make them more expensive to build
There's no difference, to be honest Smiley If you are using a Linux system, then you are using the web interface and the Linux system uses several megabytes of video card memory. If you use windows, then one video card will use 100-200 megabytes of memory and this can affect the hashrate, as was the case with ethereum mining on 4 GB video cards.

The gigabyte board is nice, but i hate this asus b250 mining expert. I have 2 of them, but very very very very unstable  Cheesy

I have one b250 motherboard and it's working perfectly, I wonder why you said yours is unstable, the only problem I have is always on Risers not the motherboard.

It doesn't matter which motherboard you buy, all you need is a working mobo is with enough pcie slots available ,either new or old it doesn't matter, I believe you should worry more about the hashrate you will get and how much electricity bill you will be paying.
In fact, not all modern motherboards are good for mining. Why do you need these problems with BIOS settings and forums?
Mining motherboards work out of the box and have a convenient USB interface for connecting raisers, which helps beginners avoid mistakes when connecting a PCI-e adapter.

And most importantly, these motherboards are cheap.

GA-H110-D3A is an excellent mining motherboard for 6 video cards. I have such motherboards, and it's too bad that they were discontinued. Motherboard works out of the box, no configuration required. Sometimes I updated the bios. These motherboards broke, but I bought new ones.

Thanks for the feedback. Will start with this board then.
You are welcome!
asus b250 mining expert is also a good motherboard. But with a gigabyte, it’s easier to start mining. For example, if I took an asus, then I would have to study the documentation for this board. And I do not use more than 8 video cards in one mining farm.

Thanks for the feedback. I will start researching components.

Maybe the boss has some other stuff lying around. Those boards must have been populated at some point.
