I think some altcoins can provide a lot of benefits besides Bitcoin, you might be able to see from XRP and ethereum and some other altcoins that can have the potential to benefit you.
I dont think so any cryptocurrency which was here in December 2017 is at his ATH at present as the market is just 104B$ now and back then it was touching 800B$. The primary problem with most cryptocurrencies is that they all solve problems that don't yet exist. When a need to solve these hypothetical problems exists, then you may see a bull market resume in cryptocurrencies.

If you follow the down trend of bitcoin history early this year all altcoin is also affected of the price dumped in the market, so do not expect that have an altcoins gives more profits than bitcoin at these recemt situation.
many altcoins have good potential only thing is we should find and invest in good alt-coins

As far as I know all the coins fell after bitcoin. Their dependence on it is so strong that any bitcoin movement reflects on them.
