For those of you who are interested in my view on the Chinese education system, I have been quite consistent in my attitude - here is an article that i wrote years ago when working for Danwei:
http://www.danwei.com/confessions-of-a-chinese-high-school-student/

Why are you responding on this forum? There's nothing but trolls here. If you proved that you were giving away money because Jesus told you too they would still troll you. Give it up.

I was buying the story until this ...

Quote
I thought my life at home was simple, but watching these short-statured miners sleep in the same tiny bed, and drink from the same tiny cup, made me appreciate the joy of true simplicity. At times it was approaching 60 degrees Celsius in our sleeping quarters, but these tiny men took the heat in stride, smiling and joking that if the heat didn't kill them, it would only make them stronger miners.

Didn't read it yet but I will take a look, 60 degrees Celsius is hot enough to cause hyperthermia from what I know.   Wink

This passage is not written by me.

Ok
This is getting interesting.
Too interesting.

It's funny... 8% annually is pretty good in this climate... Not outrageous, a believable and decent return. Just enough to close a nice long con...

So how long before Bitcoin bank vanishes?

Recall, the return was 10.13% back in March. Didn't Pirate lower his payouts prior to his Ponzi's demise?

But, but, but what about the transparency of HaoBTC paying out interest pointin' out proof of such via the blockchain? Well, I may or may not be a blockchain forensics expert, but from what I've gleaned to date, txins and txouts resemble...

What exactly is "shamwowed"? I looked it up on Google but all I got was Shamwow Super Absorbent Towels.

That was the article I read prior to reading the two linked in the OP, hence the title of this thread, which may or may not be appropriate, but I favored it nonetheless.

The proof that we provides is not to prove that we are not a ponzi scheme; it is to prove that we are real people running a real mine - lots of scams couldn't even do that. Ponzi scheme is hard to prove - The Modoc one lasted decades and I often heard people saying the governments are running Ponzis in the name of social security programs. Go to a local bank branch and demand them to provide evidence that they are not a ponzi scheme and see how they respond.

What I'd like to know, Gleb Glabow, is, what is your attraction to this obviously run-of-the-mill btc-China-ponzi-shit-show?
No crime in seeing a crackhead die in the gutter. Just depends how much planning you did to get a firont row seat in a the first place?

ShamWow Guy in Jail

What's my attraction? Something doesn't add it.

Those warehouse that were recently built where Eric Mu went to work as a grunt-cum-CMO-cum-cofunder are nothing but Chinese versions of what we here in the States refer to as pole barns.

If you noticed, HaoBTC's barns/warehouses are also not insulated. The sheathing you see outside is the same sheathing you see on the inside - its backside.

The new miners they purchase, they get near cost.

Gang Wu controls the media.

Eric Mu just happened to be good at translating and writing English hence his position(s).

Bitcoin mining is all about cost control. We save money wherever we can and decided the "barns/ warehouses" design works best for our purpose.

This one is not my primary email address - it is my work email address when I worked for my previous employer. Jeremy Glaros was the CEO.

Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi is known for being the cradle of the Chinese communist revolution. During my stay there from 2004 to 2008, I often heard locals proudly referring to their city as the "city of heroes". Though I had reservations about such a cliché, nothing prevented me from exploiting this soft spot to gain local favors. It seems to me, flattery is always the first strategy to find friends.

There is no way in hell that the same Eric Mu should be lying about where and when he attended a university. If he has lowered himself to this level of lying, what else is he lying about, especially in the Bitcoin/cryptocurrency space?

Much of the contention surrounds my two degrees. As someone suggested, I have two degrees. I didn't forget to mention my first on my Linkedin page. I did it on purpose and for what I thought was a good reason.
I went to Nanchang to do my undergraduate from 2004 to 2008. Prior, I had been on sick leave for two years due to Hodgkin's Disease. With what I have gone through, I was not expecting much - just needed a place where I could read and write in peace. Turned out that much you just couldn't get - I chose not to go to some classes because I thought they were useless to me and I could make better use of my time by studying what interested me in the library - Looking back, it seems that my encounter with cancer gave me a new sense of urgency with life.
That got me into trouble - I couldn't get the degree initially because those classes that I didn't go to.
I was lucky enough to meet Jeremy Goldkorn. I first came across his website, thought it was interesting idea, and sent him the first email in 2007. He was curious about my motivation behind writing and decided to try me by asking me to contribute to Danwei. When we first met in the summer, he offered me a job without asking to see my degree, which I didn't have at that time.
During my career, I never had the situation when I needed to show my degree to get employed. It is always the work that I have done - When I do translation for someone, they would usually ask me to do samples.
When I was told that a small bribery could get me my degree, I had my hesitance and even consulted my first boss if it would be necessary. He thought I might have use for it someday and suggested me get it.
Eventually I received the piece of paper - not very proud of what I did, but if you are Chinese and want to accomplish your goal without letting the system getting in your way, that is the price to pay. So there is a good reason that I never liked the school.
I never go around telling everyone about the story, because I never think they would be interested. When I did the Linkedin page, I wasn't paying as much attention as I probably should. I just used the only photo that was recent and I took it because my previous employer requested it - the photographer applied a lot of makeup on my face, which explained the youngish look. Not because I was vain, just because I chose to respect the way they do things they own way.
In 2010, I went to Hong Kong to study creative writing - met some good teachers there - Xu Xi and Robin Hemley
Robin is the American writer who championed immersion writing. He did some of his books by immersing himself in a life that is not normally his - he went to the kindergarten he attended and high school for his book Do Over. That was my first inspiration - every writer is motivated to write a book never been written before, and I thought I could write a great book about my involvement with Bitcoin - the kind of immersion memoir.
Sure one reason I got hired by HaoBTC was because my English skill but there are other reasons as well because I am quite honest and Wu Gang himself is an honest man and appreciate a bit honesty from others - also, it is pragmatic, every big Chinese BTC company has someone doing international communications like me.
Wu is not the evil guy who try to manipulate the media. He might have regretted having hired a creative writer who doesn't mind putting his dirty laundry out in the open.
As for the team photo, it was taken before me joining the company.
I wasn't paid much - I didn't ask for much, and I was definitely not paid to do anything evil.

didn't he just do 2 degrees, a bachelor's then a master's somewhere else? and he's pretty hopeless and vain with his photos?
as for the wallets bit, I can't follow that, but then I can rarely follow your exposes, maybe there's something there

If that's the case, how does a writer forget to cite both universities or mention Danwei where he had the most experience prior to bloggin' on Bitcoin-theme rags, then somehow becoming the cofounder of mega-bitcoin-mining-farms-cum-interest barring institution?

What exactly is "shamwowed"? I looked it up on Google but all I got was Shamwow Super Absorbent Towels.

On a lighter note, you got lucky, I got this >> http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Shamwow
" To repeatedly strike a prostitute until she stops biting your tongue. "
So I guess, the Chinese miners are doing the biting in this scenario. ^Just joking^
I have read all those articles and I am truly amazed and intrigued by the content. B.t.w I got the true meaning of Shamwowed in this instance.

That explains the biting of ones tongue mentioned in the Shamwow video I posted above.

On insight, my use of Shamwowed may be off the mark in this context, of which was not my intent, but it works just fine I guess.
