right now 2.2 looks good to me

Buy a bunch then.  Let us know how many you buy and for what price so we can see exactly how much value you lose over the next several days/weeks/months.
just an update, could cash out now for about 15% profit, not bad for one day(maybe thats two)

I think now is a good time to buy.
I think it's not about price, it's about sentiment.

What is it with this thread? The poll excludes every person who bought coins in the last five months. Also:

captainteemo registered in August.

Anyways, uhm, my price is pretty much the one we have right now.

Legen -wait for it- dary
i hate this omg i bought so many bitcoins at $30 i have literally nothign now, i took out of my 401k, i took out of my savings just to fund this
The golden rule of gambling is to only gamble what you can afford to lose. You were greedy and you lost. No sympathy from me.
Im considering just cashing out everything for $14k and leaving it at that, taking a loss on the rest

But it could always go up... in between a rrock and hard place atm.. cash out or hold until it rises back to 30..

you know how stock marktet is.... rule is buy low sell high.. why not buy at 1,5€ and wait for it to go up ... ?

At least with the stock market you can claim your losses and write them off.

You can with bitcoin! Technically you are supposed to claim any gains too!
If you trade at Gox, they keep records!

are there any tradebots that could be recommended for total trading newb such as myself, that could be easily setup with mtgox and other bitcoin exchanges?

i use  https://dnnbitcoin.aricie.com/Default.aspx?tabid=58  its free, open source, and works well.

You're not retiring tomorrow, are you? So why sell? Freaking out and selling stocks in exchange for bonds is how many destroyed their retirements in 2008, especially since they missed the 50% to 80% rebound that shortly followed.

I don't have a price in mind.  Stability and a strong story for how it's going to be useful are the main things I'm looking for.

I choose a percentage of my 'wealth' that I want to keep in various things.  USD, property, BTC, etc.  Sometimes I change my mind about the percentages I want, and there is a natural ebb and flow to adjust for as well.

So, the price of BTC on exchanges is not very relevant to me.  I decided some time ago that it would be nice to have a certain number of BTC and I've been working toward that for several months.  I finished it up with a bang on Monday morning.  Am I in the red?  No Duh!

I may decide to increase my position to either keep my own portfolio balanced or not.  If the price gets low enough, I may try to get a whole (2011) days worth of BTC just for shits-n-giggles if nothing else.  I've got a weakness for unusual and interesting things.  The current price would have to drop pretty significantly before I do this however.  I'm unlikely to 'cut my losses' as I've mentally written them off already.

i lost a lot in mybitcoin so i dont really like to keep any in wallet or exchanges because centralisation of a decentralised currency doesn't seem like the best idea

I understand your concern and unfortunately there is not an easy way to get market prices quickly. The best option would be to make regular small deposits at MtGox and TradeHill and spend the coins from there.

how much would you reocmmend for speculation

Speculation money is money you must be prepared to lose. Bitcoin is a high risk investment so my best advice is: not much and definitely not money you need. It really depends on your experience as a trader, your knowledge of the bitcoin market, if you like to take risks, etc.

why not buy at 1,5€ and wait for it to go up ... ?

because it may not ever?

look man. you said this was your savings AND your retirement money....cash out, put the money in proper investments.

seriously man, dont fuck up your retirement...

if you still want to mess with btc, do it with a smaller amount that you can afford to (and dont care if you) lose.

That is a great loss of money.  I can't really see it up or down, but it is only $2 at present, the magnitude of drop is tiny.   The upside can be huge.  Just my own opinion, not for investment advice.

i've been converting my income to BTC then buying food with it to support the bitcoin economy but i don't know how much longer i can keep this up

Don't do this. Instead, deposit part of the money at an exchange and buy coins only when you need to spend them. The process is instantaneous so there is no need for you to hold bitcoins for more than a few minutes. I also try to shop with bitcoins when I can, but I never hold on to them (except for the money I set aside for speculation).
