I sympathize with the injured and I condole the families of those that have lost their lives in this struggle. What you're going through is not much different from what many people who are living in underdeveloped and corrupt countries and wants justice and equity are facing. Some youths in my country have organized themselves and are planning to stage a peaceful protest against bad governance, I wouldn't be surprised if hoodlums hijack the protest and turn it into violence that will cost lost of lives and properties. The struggles will continue until justice and fairness is achieved otherwise the oppression will continue, but remember to prioritize your safety during these protests.

I just took a look at some article explaining this situation, since I had no context of what this quota system was about, I first thought it was a system which sought to increase taxes or force people to work for some "quota", but I understand now, it is about rewarding secure and well paid employment to those who are relatives of the soldiers who fought for the freedom of the country in the 1970's.

Well, to me the problem begins with the government being the central authority which has stockpiled the most important and sought-after jobs in the nation. It is kind of funny, because here in the country I live, we have a conpletely opposite situation, in which the government jobs have bad salaries and conditions, so people prefer to work for private entities or companies.
if Bangladesh had allowed for the job market to be more open and there were better working conditions within the private sector, probably this discriminatory quota system would have not been even passed as a law.

Even those jobs wich are alledgedly reserved for people with good merits are probably going to require loyalty to the ruling party of the country anyways.

The current quota system in our country clearly a curse for us. Not only the government failed to eradicate unemployment problems but they are the one causing it. The quota system should be scraped immediately. We are fighting for our rights, and we will continue to do so. This tyrannical government is destined to fail. When you oppress 170 million people, you are calling your own doom.

When a government turns on the citizens then it is time for the citizens to turn on the government and the ones who enforce their oppression. If you cannot remove the tyrant peacefully then you have a duty to remove them physically  ...but they must qualify as tyrants first.

Do the majority of your citizens support these government policies?

Is your government an elected government than can be removed from power through the ballot box?

Is there an adequate form of opposition in your parliament to challenge these policies?

Has you media and public/civil service been captured by authoritarians?

If your government has gone full Stalin or Chairman Mao then there is no need to check any boxes and time to march instead.

Can you imagine, a country where 56% of government jobs are in the civil services reserved for children of freedom fighters, women, specific regions, disabled people, and ethnic people? While we are left with only 44%, which is clearly a
Unfortunately, the world has negatively evolved to a stage where we can only sit back and pray that things get better but can't really help out in any meaningful way. The International bodies that are saddled with the responsibility of coming to the aid of the less privileged in the international society have been silenced because they are all playing politics with people's lives and freedom and your life and what becomes of it is now totally in your hands.

Almost in all parts of the developing world, this is what's their current fate and the crazy thing is that the individuals that are sent to carry out this molestation and people who are also struggling and can't even fend well for themselves and don't even have a taste of the privileges these political tyrants are enjoying. I condole with the student and hope the bodies that have what it takes to intervene in these cases get to action as soon as possible cause these pictures are madly gory.

Those images are really disturbing and my condolences to those who have suffered from injuries and abuse. We also face the same thing in my country and we end up beaten, killed, and imprisoned if we protest. The majority of the best jobs in the civil service are reserved for the children and relatives of politicians. The quota system was designed to promote inclusiveness and equality but sometimes it is used by the ruling class to oppress the poor. I wonder how the government will reserve 56% for a few individuals while the other population is allowed to struggle with few employment opportunities. I want you to be encouraged because oppression will not last forever. Don't give up on the fight to promote fairness and equality. But you should also ensure that you engage in lawful protests. Take heart mate.
This kind of politics is ugly, because people's blood should not be played with. As this kind of politics usually takes a gruesome form, I entered every link to see every student bleeding profusely. And these bloods involved the police and Chhatra League forces but it must be judged from the outside world, basically it can be a victim of the tyrannical government. Seeing the blood from every child's body, these are truly tragic history and battlefields.

With a heavy heart, I am writing these words to let the whole world know that recently, students in our universities in Bangladesh have been subjected to severe torture, harassment and attacks by government officials and student politicians, known as the "Chhatra League" while protesting against the quota system. We are in desperate need of help. The roads of Dhaka are awash with blood and horror. Members of the Chhatra League are attacking students on the orders of our tyrannical government. They have attacked defenseless and injured students of Dhaka University in the middle of the night. They have blocked the campus gates to prevent us from protesting against the quota system. The media, social media, internet and electricity supply are being controlled by this government. Police have fired tear gas and gunfire at students. Even women are being attacked mercilessly; there are even reports that Chhatra League members have entered women's dormitories with acid and committed rape. At least a few hundred people have been injured, and about 5-6 students have already died. The situation has created an atmosphere of fear and opposition, and many of us feel helpless to change it. The entire country is on fire. The government has already tried to make us look like villains by saying that we are "Razakar" , trying to turn the situation into a political issue. But I repeat, this has nothing to do with politics. We were peacefully protesting while we were attacked by them. We are fighting for our rights. But this tyrannical government and its followers are ambushing us from all directions. At this very moment we are actually dying in the hands of the oppressor...

Can you imagine, a country where 56% of government jobs are in the civil services reserved for children of freedom fighters, women, specific regions, disabled people and ethnic people. While we are left with only 44%, which is clearly a discrimination done by our quota system.

I cried while writing these words, I think I can't continue writing... I humbly ask the members of our local and international community to stand with the students by spreading this tragic news!

Last update: 200+ dead and 20,000+ said to be injured, the real number has not been revealed to everyone, the govt is trying to cover up everything. (26 July, 2024 -- Fri 3:27 AM)
