Hope this helps

I did actually look up the pricing before posting here, and I guess what I kind of want to know is whether any groups of members here who collect printed BTC things have done (or routinely do) pooled submissions to CGC.  I think I'd heard of that being standard practice on a comic book forum I used to lurk on a long time ago--it's got to be cheaper if one or more people can send things in to CGC without having to pay that annual membership fee.

Just curious, because I've got a few issues of Bitcoin Magazine I wouldn't mind getting graded, but the overall cost to do it is way too high IMO.  Thanks to you all for your suggestions and help; I'm feeling so warm and fuzzy that I might take a nap.   Cheesy

Sorry to necrobump this thread, but I'm not doing it for no good reason.

This was an auction, correct?  There were no bids or any apparent interest?  Bitcoin Magazine has sort of captured my attention as of late and right now I'm searching this section for threads/posts about it, but so far it doesn't look like it's an extremely popular collectible.  I'd think the older issues would be at least.

OP, do you mind me asking you how much it cost to get an issue graded from CGC?  I am just starting to learn about the graded magazine/comic book market and realize there's different levels of membership you can have with them, but I'm curious to hear it from someone who's sent in submissions (I assume, but you might have purchased those three issues already graded).  Hell, I'd be grateful for any input from anyone.  From what I gather, the company has gone downhill in the last year or so.  Thanks, my man.

Via CGC (https://www.cgccomics.com/), their "Modern tier is $22.50 per magainze. That is up to a $400 value. For higher value items up to $1000, the "High Value" tier is $76.50 per magazine. Above that value, they charge a 3.6% fee based on the value of the magazine.
There are also a few fees they add such as handling and then shipping to and from CGS, unless you are lucky and can drop them off at a card/comic/coin show! Cheesy
Hope this helps

I got an issue #1 CGC graded 8.5 in April last year using their Magazine High Value option, it cost either $124 or $115, not sure which as i sent another unrelated mag in with it and they don't specify which is which in the submissions, invoices and stuff

Just logged into my account, and it was the $115 one and I'd declared the value of it at $1,000

Edit to add: This included all fees, plus FedEx return to me, maybe also FedEx to them, I forgot, but was really easy, efficient and a straightforward process

Some of them have reached a decent enough price

https://scarce.city/auctions/bitcoin-magazine-cgc-9-0-issue-1-premiere-issue-may-2012-satoshi-anon-cover - BTC0.03 [graded]

https://scarce.city/auctions/bitcoln-magazine-2019-btc-10th-anniversary-issue-graded-cgc-9-6-rare - BTC0.00375 [graded]

https://scarce.city/auctions/bitcoin-magazine-issue-7-gata-btc-with-lyn-cally-ulbricht-autographs -  BTC0.00225 [ungraded]

Some of the earliest collectibles I started with were magazines but unfortunately there are only a
handful of examples which command the attention of other collectors. Maybe in time more magazines
will become desirable - hard to know

The holy grail is probable the Times Newspaper from 2009 - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/wts-the-times-20090103-newspaper-very-rare-authentic-certified-5481872
but there is a limit to what people are willing to pay.

The rest are first editions or very early magazines which came out before people thought of collecting them.

@The Sceptical Chymist - minerjones or MoparMiningLLC should be able to organise or at least point
you in the right direction for grading magazines.

Ah, thank you for the quick reply and the clarification.  Those selling prices seem much more reasonable than what I've been seeing on eBay--except perhaps for issue #1, but I guess the price on that baby is going to be way more volatile than the others.

Man, I remember hearing about Bitcoin Magazine years ago, and I knew the issues were going to be a part of bitcoin's history and would be collectible one day.  Then I proceeded to do absolutely nothing and probably spent my money on cigarettes and gasoline.

Those graded issues are just awesome.

Here's the ending numbers for that auction! https://scarce.city/collections/bitcoin-magazine-collection

Afraid we won't be much help on the grading process, though. We just held the auction, grading was all done by collector.
