The system's disk isn't able to handle the current load, I will be moving most guests to a server with an ssd on the 10th.

In the mean time I would suggest downloading the blockchain on a tmpfs to avoid the fsync calls.

Just curious, has this server move happened yet?
Newly created server will be provisioned on the new (and much faster) server.

Anybody who wants their VPS migrated can request it (note that this results in significant downtime).

I bought a VPS last night and the VNC IP came with an invalid port.

Phantom, a little help here?

Could you shed some light on what IO system this VPS system runs on ?

I wanted to use it to test out another way to get block data, but sofar I have spent 3days to just sync with the block chain :|

You can download latest base snapshot from here http://eu1.bitcoincharts.com/blockchain/. So you don't need to do full sync.

P.S. I used MomentoVPS , good service, all works fine! But site design is terrible Smiley

FYI: Automatic expire does not seem to work, mine should have expired 7. Feb, but still responds to ssh login.

You are welcome to delete it anytime, even just keeping up with the chain is taxing the instance, currently with a load of 3.x

I expire instances manually to give people a chance to extend first.

Maintaining the chain should not be taxing the instance at all, if it is something is wrong.

does tmpfs not require that I have the ram to hold the blockchain ?
[EDIT] Checked the wiki, seems not, linux can swap out the data to disk when there is no more ram Smiley

You can get some pretty neat servers at hetzner.de, but to break even you would have to sell for ~20BTC per server each month.
And they require one to answer abuse reports  Shocked

50 minutes for 1 confirmation? o_0
Indeed, the 10minute average can be really mean Smiley
Took 44minutes from I sent the payment till a new block came, and it didnt contain my tx, the next one came minutes later and did.

blockexplorer right now shows 3 blocks within 10minutes, but just on the first page there are several 30minute intervals between 2 blocks

wow.

Didnt want to derail the topic, dont know if its possible to detect upfront, but at least after a block or 2, only one of the transactions would have been confirmed.

Anyway 1 confirmation is fine, I was just annoyed over waiting 50minutes for a confirmation, and then see the price change by a few cents Smiley

This is pretty good, fast setup, VNC server, 7day commitment.

Took a few moments to realize you have to install the OS over VNC, since the VPS I have used before comes with a running os when you select a image.

Bw, disc io, cpu seems reasonable, and im even on the smallest instance.

Small annoyance to wait for 1 confirmation, and then having the price change, so I needed to send a few bitcents more, and again wait for a confirmation.
I would think unconfirmed with no double spends over 30seconds would do? after all if someone pulls off a double spend, and your system is automated, simply shut the server off again and close account.

Also would be useful with a QR code of the bitcoin address somewhere, if using mobile wallet to send some funds.

Unfortunately there is not currently a service which can provide even reasonable protection against double spends, to do so would require knowing the transactions being mined by the major pools, something which is not to my knowledge available.

Looks nice, I'd buy one if I didn't just buy another VPS.
Is there no support for windows?
If you have an ISO you would like to use I can accommodate that.
So if I were to get an ISO from Microsoft Dreamspark I'd be able to have it installed?
Which version would work best? I'm interested.
Yes, currently they offer windows server 2008 and the RC2 build.

Both have minimum and recommended specifications you should be aware of http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/cc196364
Would you Starter plan be able to handle Windows server?

possibly, but it'd be shit slow. i wouldnt recommend it
How about Windows Server 2003?

I'll differ to microsofts recommendation here.

How are the CPUs for your VPS?

Current systems are all i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz.  VMs are assigned 3 vcpus.
