Use a unique password for your forum account, randomly generated is better, something that looks like a bitcoin address or private key and just as long.
If anyone manages to hack the account, you have other problems, such as malware in your computer.
I believe I had a fairly strong password, actually I should have changed it after the 2017 data breach of which I was unaware, so it ended up on some onion market... Guess I didnt get the memo...
All right then.
Thanks again to whoever sorted that mess.
I conscientiously deleted the trail of shit left by the signature-farmer who bought my formerly hacked account.
Thanks again to the team, and hopefully this wont happen again. Cheers
It's good to know that you were helped by the mods to get your account unbanned
It must have felt really terrible discovering that your account got banned due to some scumbag who had taken over your account.
Also check your outbox to be sure that the person did not use it for dubious purposes:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;f=outboxThanks, first thing I did. Actually I was very lucky, it could have been used for more sinister purposes due to my activity... To be fair, it got banned twice : once for plagiarism right after it got hacked and bought, and a second time, months after I managed to get it back, due to some old plagiarism messages I forgot to delete...
I'm lost at sea here, frankly I'd rather have to pay $10 bucks a year and have a dedicated customer service that I could reach to when stuff like that happens.
$10 that's very cheap for requesting dedicated customer service. Where do you think the mods live?
I really like that idea though. I wouldn't mind paying a good amount of money for a dedicated service that helps me recovering account if it's hacked, or gives me instant support on my queries related to my deleted posts, unhandled reports and such. It will be a very good way to incentivize the forum.
You're right, it's not a lot, but at the end of the day, they did take care of both my problems, for $0...
Granted it took a while, so I would not mind having paid $10 a year as some kind of insurance fee to have the certitude that my problem would have been taken care of eventually, which was far from the case until the mods decided to handle seriously the hacked accounts situation following the 2017 hack/data breach, whatever that was.
I said $10 because that's pretty much what I threw-in for copper membership on my other account, I don't know what percentage of users end up locked up / banned / moderated on a daily basis, so I really have no idea, what kind of numbers would make sense to them, but I was more thinking of an insurance-like model, you pay so you don't have to use it.
Today with code-free AI bots like verloop.io and things like that, most of the hard work can be easily automatized and may only require very minimal human interaction like intervening on posts or accounts.
