If the site seems new and starts asking for money before you even get to explore it, it's most likely a scam. They usually target newbies in trading because most of them are still easy prey. That's why it's important for anyone new to bitcoin and exchanges to join forums like this where we get to read tips from experienced members.

There are many scams nowadays using Bitcoin, so you should always be careful with give aways offers in the form of promo codes.
This method of fraud is widely used by scammers, because many people are interested in give aways promos. Especially in a pandemic
situation like now, many peoples which requires a lot of money. If we are diligent in reading reviews  about trustcoin exchange, of course
we will be aware that trustcoin exchange has received a lot of fraud accusations. What I worry about newbies and lazy people reading
reviews, such a person very easily becomes a victim of fraud. Advice from me is always to avoid if there are give aways offers that require
a deposit first, that's one of the characteristics of fraud.

Good thing you know that there are so many scam nowadays abusing the bitcoin system. The hard part is that it is not easy to track those guys to put them into prison. This is why if one will join cryptocurrency then one should be careful and should be educated when it comes to different aproach of scamming. There are others usually done scamming in telegram with channel thatbhas good number of users. However, they could get nothing as long as we know how they work and one should be always careful to offers that are usually good to be true. This is an old school way of scamming.

I already explained the method they use. Usually they offer a huge amount of money and try to make the victims to get into the trap. I call this method deposit-to-withdraw and in my own idea usually any exchange, casino, ... who ask you to deposit some money smells fishy. Also, probably if you check the promo codes on multiple account and multiple days you will see the promo code is working during all the time and on any account, theoretically this can be one simple way to detect such scams.

not a scam promo code but I think the website is a scam
never make a deposit on an exchange that is not clear, do not link metamask on any website
one more important thing, don't be easily tempted by free coins or tokens, we must be very careful in choosing

Don't run after free bitcoin earning sites or you will get fall in their trap. Trust Exchange has many bad reputations and i personally don't recommend this exchange for every new members. You have fallen their trap and if you deposit, you will be more loser. So avoid this exchange to safe your funds.
This is actually a trap. If you deposit, you're done. You had your money already gone. This kind of fraud is old. It's been on our environment for a long time.
Because of that, we should already be familiar with this kind of bait. It's only a promo code, why you will be risking your 1.6mBTC for this crap.💩

I'm surprised this topic isn't even moved to B&G board even 2weeks had already passed.
@OP, this topic should be moved to Beginners & Help board.

Not really a thing to know about but because of greediness, it drives them to fall into the trap. No wonder why still a lot of NO-HOW individuals will become a victim of this scheme because they easily get attracted after seeing FREE without doing any legitimacy check.

It is a must to check first before doing any stupid decision. We know already how tricky the market today and we should also have to take extra effort to avoid being a victim of fake promotions.

I have recently signed up on the trust(lol)coin exchange because someone here was saying there was a promocode for a few free satoshis, I redeemed the code and tried to withdraw, it said I had to play atleast one roulette game before i can, which is what I did, and it said I had to deposit 0.016 to prevent abuse from the promo code. This is obviously a Scam!

Be carefull Newbies! don't fall for this crap!

Lot of such kind of scam strategy scattered everywhere in different online games, sites and apps. They are spreading their evil business to deceive people and to earn easily from others pocket. Be careful everyone not just a newbie.

I fell for scams like this before I got to know better. Scams like this have so infiltrated the crypto world that one can fall for these scams ten times over as one can't distinguish between real and scam.
One thing I'd advice newbies is that they stay away from sites that promised free bitcoins. These sites give the free bitcoins and require that you deposit a certain amount of bitcoin to withdraw your free coins. Obviously schemes like this are scams and  those who deposit only learn the truth the hard way.
I'd say you run away from 'Free coins'

There are too rampant of this even here in the forum but I am not falling for any of it. The best thing to do is to avoid anything that look suspiscious or having a good offer. Actually no one has offering here a good except from the scammer who use it as a bait. In short, if the offer is so good to be true then do not waste your time on it.

See other ways of scamming. Most of the time they used the social media. And since it has a large audience it can really get scam especially to those who are desperate to earn fast and easy money.

That really sucks. These promotions are meant to entice newbies to learn more about the Cryptocurrency Industry and not to scare them away. Promotions like that are the reason why people are saying that Bitcoin is a scam because they heard stories about other people being scammed but they did not know that they were just caught in a bad timing.  I hope that you will not encounter things like that anymore. Lets just earn slowly and surely and invest on things that looks promising.

Be careful on joining a giveaway since a lot of scammers lurking around in crypto world. You have to search their site and reviews before joining. Even if they asks you a lower amount don't be a victim of click bait. Though during these hard times people are in need of errands so you have to do some research on the legit site.
Better stop Joining Giveaways because all of them are scams and not trustworthy.

Not Like in past that they are truly Giving prizes but now they are only Asking for KYC or free reviews and then nothing will happen and you will wait till the end of the world lol.
Why not instead of Joining Give aways we use our precious time in something productive and profitable in real term not in scammy ways.

Thanks for these heads up for newbies, pretty helpful in my opinion. You didn't include the link of the scam site though but there is someone who posted the link so the problem was already solved.

it is not necessarily a fraudulent scheme. Recently, there was a campaign called Root bat and there, too, in order to withdraw the money that came for the bounty, you had to make a Deposit of one dollar. I did it and it worked perfectly. So check the information - it's not always a Scam.
Your case is special one, the number of legitimate sites that do this is outnumbered by scam sites to the point that most people will not trust them no matter how legitimate they are, I agree that doing research is a good move regarding this one but always remember that in crypto space, "free" is a red flag.

Newbie's and those who are greedy are the vulnerable on this type of scams.
They should learn how to know if the site or promotions are just scam.
There are people who would just ignore it and try to gain whatever they have been promised even if it is a high chance of being a scam.

You should make a research about the exchange first before jumping to try it out. Me personally will do a research before trying any new site cause we dont know what will they gonna be.. A good one or a bad one.. Some of promocode are legit as long as they doesnt as to deposit our own money before to try it out. so it very obvious a scam exchange. stay out be safe.

Fake exchange promocode as well as scams were getting to be very common as more and more people are getting into the cryptocurrency usage. Newbies at the beginning doesn't have much of knowledge using cryptocurrencies, and that's the reason where newbies easily getting trapped. Whenever one uses a cryptocurrency exchange it is a must to go through the proper channel without connecting through any promocode links or affiliates.
Not only fake exchanges but also some bounty projects are cheating more people especially Newbies with different offers. Because using cryptocurrency doesn’t have much knowledge of Newbies in the beginning; So they can be easily deceived. So I guess promo codes should never be trusted.

If its too good to be true, then its not worth trying because I’m sure its just a scam. You have to compute if the rewards code is worth the risk especially if you are putting money on that exchange or any particular investment. I don’t usually use promo codes because I know its just a small money and it requires some work, if you really want to get that reward then you must do your research before trying.

Scammers are really clever nowadays, if you're just clicking before thinking then you might fall for this. Newbies should always keep this advice; If its to good to be true then its probably not true. Always be wary and cautious when a platform, offers you easy quick earnings by depositing something.
Exactly mate and if there are something that make them doubtful the best way to keep safe is ask the community,we have plenty of investigator here that will help and assist them in cases like there are a possible scam to happen.
There is no doubt that it is not a scam. I don't trust any free satoshi site except freebitcoin faucet site. Other site will always ask for a deposit when you will try to withdraw your btc. Let's think it is legit but why would I have to deposit 0.016 btc? Why would this much big amount? So, becareful before depositing your hardly earned bitcoin in this such kind of exchanger, websites, faucets, or any gambling site.
or Some is asking for KYC just for penny.

this is an obvious scam that luring newbies and greed people to fall for them,Hope the years are enough to teach cryptonians what is legit and which is scam.

Scammers abuse KYC lots. People misunderstand KYC and scammers use it to seem legit when they really are not legit. They do many different things to try "enforce" that they are the good guys. Many will claim. "we cannot guarantee you a 25% profit but we can a 12% when actually anyone who guarantees you a profit shouldn't be trusted. They will use any excuse to get you to give them your money and any excuse to prevent you from getting back your money. One of the favourite things is they lock your account for "suspicious activity".

Isn't it too obvious ? But the thing is why would you go after a few Satoshis.
It's not 2013 when collecting few Satoshis and adding them up to make a few dollars did seem like a doable thing.
In this era collecting few Satoshis won't mean anything since all of it would be gone just in transferring them into a different address.
Depositing an amount just to collect withdraw an amount is an obvious scam.
Of course if you feel like there is something suspecious in a campaign you are joining with, you better stop early before it's too late. We have to be smarter most especially in this time of pandemic because a lot of bad people out there are wandering. They are looking for their victims and studies their strengths and weaknesses in order for them to catch your interests and your trust.

This is a big problem not because if we try to make a search online, you can find a lot of things like these and really interesting to see especially if you are new to this kind of trick. Mostly noobs never think the risk about this but seeing this to be good to be true. No, we can argue that things as obviously scam artwork but can't stop people think an opportunity for them to earn. It is very unfortunate that they never realize it until such time that they had to lose their money.

It’s very suspicious, they should have just said the things that are involved before you signed up, it’s good to let you know what you’re getting involved in, not after you have signed up and played a game and they start giving excuses, it’s best for you to avoid them so that you don’t end up getting scammed. And I think what you’re referring to here is a casino? Because you mentioned roulette, so it’s probably a casino.

Majority of the big online casinos I know are following a procedure that is similar to this, but scammers are also doing the same, so it’s best for you to avoid any site that is not popular, and go for the ones that are already very popular.

This is a common fraud scheme, I am very surprised that people still fall for this. Warnings are heard from almost every "teapot", but every person believes that it is "he" who is the smartest and that he will not be deceived. But scammers "do not sleep" they are always one step ahead of us - old schemes die, new ones appear. It's good that there is this forum where people tell different situations. Newcomers to the cryptocurrency community especially need to be careful, since blind faith in the "miracle of Bitcoin" and that they will not be deceived here will not lead to anything good. It is in the cryptocurrency space that there is a huge amount of unaccounted money and a huge space for rampant fraud. Therefore, - take care of your money, do not give a scammer-slacker a chance to disappoint at least one fan of the cryptocurrency community.

If it asks you money to deposit, get out of there quickly. There are certain promo codes with requirements and they are very vocal to say the minimum amount you had to deposit or use it trading in their platform.

There are so many scams on social media and in the crypto currency world so we have to be very careful. I have also experienced fraud, I got a gift of 1 BTC from someone else then I was asked to send ETH first to his wallet address, I started to suspect and wonder, why should I send ETH first while I will be given a gift, in my mind this is a scam. I ignore the gift and then I do my other work.

It is something you've been trick out by this kind of strategy without further research about the said exchange. Not even someone says that they will receive a few sats they will make you trust easily. There is no wrong about trying in order to find out if it is true, and actually it has but wondering if they ask you some deposit, that is a stupid thing to do if anyone does. No doubt it was a scam.

I can't imagine if there is someone who will take that deal and ask help in the forum because of being a victim of this. That's free and promo things make people become curious, but somehow it was their losing ends also instead of having a few sats from that offer.

A good decision that you didn't make any transaction or transfer the coin first to that exchange. So far, many fake exchanges or programs do this kind of scam in order to deceive their victims So usual, giving rewards and deposit first, this is one of the reasons why it is said as a scam.

Yup! This is an obvious scam attempt.

Newbies are aggressive when they find something interesting in a certain platform that offers easy money.
Well they gotta do what they gotta do for the money, it's easy money who else does not want that? but unfortunately most of them are the end of cliffs.

But it is really obvious and suspicious if it asked you for sending money first, that's a 100% scam.
It's working like the money doubler, I'm 100% sure that all of this is a scam, I don't know why still many people are falling this such old crap. This is created by ancient scammers and still working these days, Idea of which tells me there are dumb people.

Exchanges now can be easily made with fake volume, number of users shown, liquidity, and everything. Scammer gets wiser and wiser every time, they even spend money to make things more looking legit and pleasing to the eyes of everyone. But for those who really sees what's behind will surely know how things are being fabricated. You better be cautious with everything on the internet.

so becareful guys if you DM by someone and try give you a lot of money its to good to be true

and for you scammer out there believe me dude

"Karma never loses an address"

Fake exchanges pop up the same way fake projects pop up every day. No matter how careful newbies want to be, they still fall victims to scammers. I also think traders should not keep on registering on every exchange they see or are introduced to. Take your time and do a proper research before registering on an exchange. Also, you should block and report anyone as spam who tries to send you a DM that you did not ask for.

I would not recommend for any trade or any thing with new exchanges. Because it's too much risky for any kinda deal with new exchanges. I also faced some problems couple times when i was trying to sold my coin.
Now days joining in giveaway is really risky task. If you are not careful much scammers will loot you for sure. The simple thing is no one will give you free money, if some one try to give you unrealistic offer then it's better to stay away from it.

Their reasons to make you deposit seem legit but those kinds of reasons are scripted. don't get yourself so excited when you see such offers. Usually, when it involves BTC giveaway or like this one, you will end up losing your money than getting something from them. Remember the world of internet is different, scams and fraud are common. we need to be vigilant and use our mind well to think the other way around. Because believing with these kinds of people when we don't really know who they are it's the worse thing to do.
This is true. In digital space it is kind of hard to know what is real and not. Giveaways and other compensations may be thrilling but we should always doubt everything first before trusting something or someone.

We needed to keep reviewing everything before we proceed and participate, not just because there's money
that involved but also if they are asking for KYC.
Very important to keep things being checked never to go blindly due to your greediness, it will lead you
losing your money or hacking your information.
Hackers and scammers are not stopping they are around and always taking chances, once they've seen
opportunities they will grab it right away.

There is no reason to chase hard after a few free Satoshis. If all it takes for you to sign up and play a game on an unknown site are a few Satoshis, the tendency is that you might fall again for a scam like this.

What if it says you just need to deposit 0.0005BTC instead of 0.016BTC in order to gain access to a promo code which provides you 0.001BTC? Would you have made a deposit?

Nowadays, especially in the crypto space, treat the word free as a warning.

Yes not just sometimes but mostly those who offer free is unreliable and should be avoided because it is just a part of their marketing to get many people fall on their trap. They offer free but if you are already there ,you need to pay first before you can receive the free coins or whatever they are offering at the start before you joined. Scammers and crooks are just around with different tricks,so be careful guys not to fall with them.

Whenever and wherever I see the word – FREE, I’m always very careful. Scammers these days are using so many different approach to scam people. They create things that will look legit and be promising to give you something for free and when you sign up for it, they will ask for a deposit before you get that reward.

Although I know that some legit websites makes use of a similar approach where they will tell newbies to deposit and play to a certain level to be able to cash out their bonus, but it would be best for you to make use of a website that has been around for a long time and also legit than for the one that is still new and not known by anyone.

I encountered this one before. The interface of the site was copied from other exchange. Here in forum there are some newbie accounts who posted some threads regarding trustcoin exchange. The site will require you to input your email, username etc. and then the promotional code. After that, you need to play before you can withdraw it and deposit to claim your prize. Be careful with these kind of sites. Do some research and don't let yourself be a victim.

Newbies are aggressive when they find something interesting in a certain platform that offers easy money.

But it is really obvious and suspicious if it asked you for sending money first, that's a 100% scam.

it is much better to not engage in that kind of schemes, it will just lead you to pure losses that you can't retrieve back. Instead of relying on those fake rewards and promo codes, it is much better to work on your own in a profitable way. Scammers are smart and wise and you will not fool them because they are the one who fooled people.

If you have to deposit 0.016 BTC into the exchange, it is definitely a scam. This method is widely used by scammers. Promo codes with a few free satoshis are just nonsense that will trick people into being fooled. I harp everyone here can know about a method like this so it is not easy to believe.

Instead of paying to scammers, it is better if you invest 0.016 BTC or trade in the market, it will be better and more profitable.

With regards to the topic, it is really obvious that such promotions and referral are just scams, maybe not explicitly soliciting investments to continue the direct withdrawal, but rather make you go from point to point and deceive you that you earn this huge amount then just require investment in the end. Investment in general isn't that bad, yet it must not be that huge. Take Roobet as an example, which they only require a dollar investment so you can withdraw, but you can still have the dollar back after withdrawal.
actually if it is good to be true mostly it is scam, and this is not far from others.

Good that you use Roobet as an example because the site is totally legit and has proven their  legitimacy when they make way to compensate Yahoo about the Bug their site face year ago.

Another common way to scam newbies (at least for me since I've seen many ways of scammers to scam newbies and unfortunately many are falling for it).

If you are one of the few investors who aren't falling to these kind of kids way of scamming people then welcome Smiley. Unfortunately not only newbies are falling to these kind of shits but also those people who are here for long time already. Its because of temptation. Investors are very tempted to these kind of scams and they are willing to deposit some BTC to have it.

Well like I always say and will say it again, an investor will not learn if they will not experience it so let them experience getting scammed so they will learn from it Smiley

The ignorance most times is the reason why people fall victim of these scammers. There is no such thing as promo code in an exchanger. Instead of promo codes, the bonus will be attached to your personal account at certain given conditions and then you acquire the bonus upon meeting such conditions or tasks. Be more careful.

Everyone is looking for the best and most favourable exchange but we ako need to have im mind that security comes first. And it's good for community to share every information about specificirati exchange or other service that is not legitimate.
this message is applicable to all because even other users might fall trap to it. We know that there were too many exchanges nowadays and it requires you to input password and in some cases like extension wallets do require private key and password to access crypto funds. phishing is very common through fake apps or downloads when it is a malware. So, when you do click something make it sure to verify it or else you will going to make regrets in the future when someone steal your crypto.

I agree with you. That is why we should all observe extra diligence in times like this.
Wordings used in the crypto space can be really enticing and deceiving at times.
It is safer to visit sites that are known and familiar to the community to avoid such cases.

I totally agree with your opinion, if you see the current price of BTC is very high and there will be no way for anyone to share BTC for free, maybe even though there is I believe all of it is a scam.
It seems that from the past until now there have been a lot of websites that give out some satoshis for free and beginners will want to try it, so the point is before trying it's good to ask something like this to someone who understands so that nothing untoward happens.

An old way, in the scam accusation board there are a lot case like this one. New user from the platform ask to deposit first before they get the reward. Yeah, most likely for those users who don't know it (newbie) will send they money as they want until they fall to the trap.

As a suggestion, you may need to reveal the site here in order to many people know that the site is scam. Bitcoin and crypto currency is getting popular right now, moreover with the current situation when many people just stay in home and they need money for basic need they will do anything as long as they will be profited.

When there is good, there'll be something opposite to it. For each and everything newbies will be the target, earlier during my early days into crypto itself I experienced a fake exchange scam. It happened through an e-mail, I received an e-mail to confirm the login. Going through the mail it landed on a login page of an exchange. It resembles same as that of a leading exchange. If I've entered the login credentials, they could've used it to open my true account and emptied everything. From that while using any services related to cryptocurrency I do cross checking one or two times. This could help in getting out of the traps.

Well at least you have wisely recognized at first that it is an obvious scam at the first thing that it have asked you for a deposit amount just to claim your reward. Good thing that this forum serves as an awareness channel for everybody to know about the latest scams to keep everyone to get rid of such schemes. But it would be much better that upon creating a thread about scam updates, better include the name and URL of the scam exchange or other stuffs to make your awareness call be more efficient so that we won't be guessing what exchange are you talking about for it is a common and an old school scheme to bait rewards for newbies and ask for a deposit amount in exchange for them to claim the reward.

Scammers are getting wise and targeting newbies so better to raise awareness to lessen the chance of newbies falling for such traps. Also, do no fall for filthy give aways for there are no easy money here in crypto.

It's obviously scam so why you signed up? Free satoshi that needs deposit before you claim is not a new scheme. Its old trick that working in newbies, I'm glad that I didn't fall for that kind of trap. My advice is always create a new password every website you've signed up so that they can't open your other account in other websites. These are completely fraudulent matters! I don't know what this token you will get for the 0.016 BTC deposit ?! Things like this are very common in new projects where they say that they will give you the token for free, but when you want to make a withdrawal they ask you to deposit first.

Free satoshi I assume it's BTC that OP is mentioning, he will get some satoshi after using the promocode, the problem is in order
to claimed the free BTC OP needs to deposit such huge amount.

A very proof that this really an attempt of scamming him by whoever give him this info. Good thing OP didn't fall for this scam,
Just wondering what if it's not that huge amount that OP needs to deposit, maybe there's chance that OP might fall to this trick.

I have seen a lot of similar cases with that kind of tactic here, and even if a lot of people are already giving awareness, there are still who fall for this scheme. Although some newbies may not be aware of this scheme, a few free satoshis are not worth it if they are asking you to deposit a certain amount of money first.

Good for the op that even if he tried to redeem the promo code, he is still cautious and did not end up falling for this kind of scam. Since scams are everywhere, it's really better for us, not only for newbies to always be careful to avoid being a victim of scammers.

I have seen similar exchanges like that offers free credits of tokens or fiat but requires deposit from users in order to withdraw and basically it's a dubious scheme that is a scam for sure, no doubt about it. Not just on new exchange does this but also on airdrops, wherein its actually rampant schemes that users required to pay for these airdrops to claim those tokens that supposed to be free in the first place.  Grin
You can really see a lot like that because until now they are still doing that in the telegram and send many spam messages for different users  as their future victim.

In Code We Trust
The scenario that an exchange will ask for a deposit could be compared to a gambling site that also does the same thing, this doesn't necessarily mean that they tend to scam customers but looking up to the amount of BTC that you need to deposit, it is an obuse scam in my opinion, just one dollar is enough if they really want to avoid their services being abused by users who create multiple accounts. In addition, they could also include an IP checker to verify that new users created are unique in IP and what about those who uses VPN? They could also block some suspicious IP.

With this knowledge we should already avoid the site since they require more than the amount we received from the promo code.

Obviously, that's a scam. There's no one who will ask a money for you and they say that they will give you free coins, that's very suspicious. There are a lot of options to earn money and that schemes will only give you losses so be careful about the scams that you are seeing in some platforms. We should be mindful about our assets and never trust easily on what we are seeing free coins, free giveaways, and etc., online. Don't root for an easy money, don't look for an easy money, it is much better to work on yourself and not rely on those fake schemes that scammers are using to lure people for a victim to deposit a certain amount of coin to their account. In order to fight those scams, bitcoin investors should be knowledgeable and aware about them so that there will be no more person that will become their victim next time.

Of course it's an obvious scam. The good thing here is that moderators are actively deleting this kind of things. Few days ago I saw a similar scheme pertaining to getting "free money" just by signing up and playing a few games.

In the first place, there's no free money here, especially when that type of content is promoted by a newbie account.

If it asks you money to deposit, get out of there quickly. There are certain promo codes with requirements and they are very vocal to say the minimum amount you had to deposit or use it trading in their platform.

But with that exchange, it looks like another uncommon exchange looking for its prey.

Grin
