On Youtube it's totally normal to ask for "thumbs up", it's a very annoying habbit once you hear that 12 times per day.
It has become so bad that I skip the start of those videos. I often quit if they do it mid-stream as well.
I think it's a little different on youtube as they rely on likes and subscribers to get boosted in the YouTube algorithm so their videos are shown to other users as recommended, but it is annoying and I don't know anyone who's gonna like a video or subscribe just because they're prompted. I hardly ever like videos and I'm only going to subscribe to a channel if I actually like their content and not just because they asked (I mean, who is actually going to subscribe to a channel they don't like), so it's futile asking from my perspective, and as I said above I'm also probably much more likely to not give them what they want if they annoyingly actually ask for it.
