Take a look at this post to understand some of the basics: Re: Who can award Merits. The number of Merits Sources in now different than that stated on the post (there are more now), but the information is still valid.

The basic idea for Newbies is that you need to earn merits to be able award merits. You have no merits and therefore require receiving at least two merits to be able to give on sMerit away (check the post I referenced to see the difference between Merit and sMerit).

Well I personally don't think the op is in the right position to be dishing out tips to rank up when he himself has not yet ranked up. Well I think the post is still useful to some buy it's old already

One is entitled to post on whatever topic one wishes to. Nevertheless, the information provided in the OP has been around for quite some time, on multiple posts, some of them being as official a one can get due to who their authors are.

What’s not really smashing for creating a tutorial or guide though is not doing the homework properly, and providing incorrect information that can mislead the intended audience:
-   Jr. Members require 1 Merit, not 0 as stated in the OP.
-   Full Member merit requirement and Legendary activity have now been corrected, but were incorrect a few hours ago.

Also asking explicitly for merit (now corrected in the OP) is not the best way to go. It is normally clear that many posts are written with that intent, and that’s fine by me (I’d rather see some sort of effort with an objective than no effort at all), but there is no need to belittle oneself by making it so explicit (which on occasions has lead to be people being tagged as a merit beggar).

Come on, you should stop picking on tutorials in this section. It's not like you are forced to read them. One user makes an effort to make a tutorial and next there are various posts in the user's thread about how bad the tutorial is. In the end they did put effort to make the tutorial, even if you don't like it. Stop complaining about how bad it is. Just don't read the tutorials in this section if you don't like them.

What a dreadful opening post. I hope any members hoping to increase their rank will learn from the mistakes in it.

- It is a tired old topic with no new information.
- The formatting is dreadful, and I didn't bother to read most of it.
- I see the merit begging has been removed, that is enough to get you put on ignore on its own.

Anyway - I put the OP on ignore, so no merits for him in my weekend merit giveaway.

...

If only most newbies would take five minutes of their posting restriction time to read more and grow their knowledge of the forum, we would have a much improved community. With more relevant posts and less redundant topics.

5.Full Member :Activity: 120Merit: 10
6.Sr. Member :Activity: 240Merit: 250
7.Hero Member :Activity: 480Merit: 500
8.Legendary :Activity: 775Merit: 1000

To note, there's a typo there.
Full members require 100 merit and the required activity to rank up
And legendary rank could be reached anywhere between 775-1030 activity.

And using multiple colours does not in any way make the read better.

Thank you for your advise

There are far more important things to discuss rather than talking about something which has already been discussed so many times. This isn't something new you have come up with. Learn about something new check, read different topics so it'll help you in a way that you'll know what people are talking about and you will post it according to that.

I am also a beginner, I have visited every part of the forum before I started posting.
I saw a better post here.  Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/forum-rankspositionsbadges-what-do-those-shiny-coins-under-my-name-mean-178608
I think it would be better for beginner to post less and read more, there are a lot of rules here, and it still takes some time to read it carefully.

Note: If this post is helpful then Give me Merit, Thank you.
You actually came up with a guide on how to earn/increase merits and ended it up begging for one..
Going through your post,i can't find were you wrote begging for merits is one way to earn some.
Your guide is basically what everyone knows and I do not see how helpful it really is..
And more so,you wouldn't be earning any merits for it, maybe not because of the low quality but for the merit begging at the end

If this post is helpful then Give me Merit, Thank you.
It is not helpful,thank you!

There is already a similar post here:
Newbies - Read before posting

Has a lot of similar posts before, and you openly beg for merit, so I think you are very unlikely to get any merit.
you don’t know anything about the forum rules but posted this topic, I doubt the motive behind you.

In addition, don't try to use strange fonts and colors to make your posts look more attractive, which is not helpful. Wink
