Thanks for the advice guys, working towards getting savvy, no need to follow the mainstream direction, I want my coins protected from unlawful search and seizure, hope there will remain to be further development in the future for this.

So after the last reply from Holliday I google armory, I read this thread of backing up files, cool, I can back up my wallet on paper and then destroy all digital pieces of it if I wanted? (did not explain anything about how to recreate the files, but that, I think I could possibly figure out with the right guide) https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/please-backup-your-wallet-a-paper-backup-is-forever-152151
Then I read "Using Armory anonymously"  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/using-armory-anonymously-155717 and then "Armory number of possible wallets" https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/armory-number-of-possible-wallets-384817 and next "using armory on ubuntu" https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/using-armory-on-ubuntu-377020 and for the sake of this thread, last i read "How are People implementing their M-of-N (Fragmented) Backup Plan?" https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-are-people-implementing-their-m-of-n-fragmented-backup-plan-350993 Wow!! Instead of thinking I can do this easily I may just take the "Enter IT field" option, I can hardly understand what this stuff means, and have no idea why it has to be so difficult and time consuming, and I have an interest in how it work's! Now the guy that just wants to be secure with his new digital crypto currency but can hardly use office is going to be confused as ever, how do bitcoiners expect to get over the tech hump to mainstream the use and adoption? Everything I read was easy reading, a person can get the concept but cant grasp the details easily.
Now that I know I am doomed to many hours of book's and testing, where do I start? Networking? Programming? Security? I feel the need to understand what is behind the software I choose to be secure against super computer's brute force attacks on my finances.

I'm no computer expert and I've learned to use Armory and all it's features without much effort. It simply takes some time to familiarize yourself with the software.

As far as the average Joe and securing bitcoins goes, when Bitcoin reaches the mainstream there will be services which the average Joe pays to secure his bitcoins for him (aka banks). The beauty of Bitcoin is that a savvy user can take the extra effort and be their own bank.

This is exactly what I think. I'm sure there will be all sorts  of gizmos and gadgets that will help Bitcoin become more safe and secure coming out this year.

Hmm, I'll have to check this out. I'm paranoid about keeping my funds online, but blockchain.info seems pretty safe.

Ya, but would you want to keep 5000 or more BTC on blockchain.info? I like blockchain.info but then I am putting my security in someone else's hands, what do you use right now?
No, I wouldn't keep that much in there. But I'd be scared on holding that much on any amount of USBs or Paper back-ups etc.
Ya! Haha, always worried its vulnerable going to lose it in fire, or what could happen, sell a bunch and diversify, buy a small beach in Mexico  Smiley

I just brought this point up to my brother inlaw who say's I can be hacked the moment I sync my wallet with the network, now I get to dig into the info available and try to understand why he thinks that is possible, it is almost pushing me into the IT field just to understand it all.

Using software like Armory, with it's offline transaction signing feature, you never need to expose your wallet to the network.

Your wallet (and the private keys contained within) are kept on an air-gapped machine. You create transactions using an online machine containing the block chain and then sign those transactions with the offline machine containing the private keys. Finally, you broadcast the transactions using the online machine.

Hmm, I'll have to check this out. I'm paranoid about keeping my funds online, but blockchain.info seems pretty safe.

Seriously, Sandwich?

Oh, your bitcoins can be stolen before you sync to the network if your attacker gets your private keys. Anyway, even governments have to infect your PC first. If you buy a new laptop, do a clean OS install. We're all in one list or another (I'm a legal resident alien in the US) Also I have been asked for military service in Greece which sucks and will have to get off that list.

The corruption in our modern government is there to profit corporations so you're probably safe unless you're a whistle-blower.

I know for a fact I am most likely recorded on possibly many list's that raise flag's to the eye in the sky (or whatever you want to call it), would this put my bitcoins in more jeopardy than the average user? could my association with known enemies (activist's) of the corrupt governments make my finances a target for any of the super funded secret intelligence agency's?
Just wondering...
As it is banks on every turn keep screwing me with their interpretation of the fine print, so much that now I pay more to live without a personal bank account.
Am I paranoid? I think its wise to be, if you felt like you were living in a Nazi-like controlled state would you be paranoid if you disagreed with them (they are out there).

I can't tell you how I know, but they are aware of you and your Bitcoins.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
Break your private keys into an M of N paper wallet. Put the pieces (however many you are comfortable with) in different physical locations. Relax knowing that the only way to access your coins requires obtaining a certain number of pieces from a certain number of different physical locations.

And since we're all friends here, heed the advice given and relax, starting with sharing with us the location of the M of N's so that you'll rest easy at night in your 8 X 10 knowing full well that in Amsterdam your previously owned precious is only being spent on the finest that that faire city has to offer.

Hope you enjoyed the humor, bud.

Seriously, relax.

I'll even put you more at ease.

Ever heard the expression, "healthy skepticism?    Try not to be paranoid but at the same time, if you're not doing anything wrong you should have nothing to fear.  Just keep your eyes open and be careful, but relax a little.  Maybe talk to someone like a therapist who you can trust.

Ok so paranoid was the wrong word to use, I used the word in a casual context, now who does not do something wrong? If you are able to live straight laced then kudos to you, I am surely relaxed, I want to be off the grid when I retire and plan to use BTC and the like to get there, my hope is through trading and other online means, so i do worry that when I am at the peak of my online activity it all comes falling down based on some sort of homeland security bylaws.

Relax a bit, try to turn down the paranoia mode. Besides, what kind of enemies of the corrupt governments are you friends with? Since "they" already know, there's no harm in telling it to everyone else.

The common Patriots and the such that personally dare to fight secret courts and the such, people that think outside of the box and see something going on behind the media curtains.
