Litecoin will most likely end up being the best investment for 2014 and 2015 for long term profits (lower risk). However if you are a day trader, you can follow the new coins being released and see if there is an incentive to buy into them for a short period of time and sell for a profit.
Get out of that mindset now. Litecoin will definitely get pumped and yield some returns, but the potential gains from other alt coins is much much higer. You'll be better served getting into other coins.

Long term (Months): Litecoin

I personally believe NXT will overtake the Litecoin market. That is pretty huge!
I seriously doubt it, unfortunately POS coins have an inherent flaw of lesser security with their block chains. While I have nothing against them personally, the POS system seems to be broken, especially in light of the minipal hack.
