Gems looks interesting and to me seems one of the only coins with some actual potential and real world use. I think some sort of decentralized social network or messaging service could really take off as who doesn't want to get paid to use one?

This is exactly it. Personally I don't see much value in any alts, though that may change in the future. I'd just put your money in bitcoin as that's where all the money is going in to in actually developing it as a viable currency. I mean, the Winkelvi haven't invested in doge have they?

Viacoin & Clearinghouse are good long term investments but I don't know if they will take off in 2015. Darkcoin is promising. Archcoin is going to blow people away. I think URO will make a comeback too.

its been through hell in 2014, but AeroME is weeks away from releasing one of the best projects I've ever seen in Crypto. Its a platform with a decentralized exchange, marketplace, merchant services, payroll service, smart loans and smart propery.... its everything that Bitbay was trying to be exempt its not a scam.
Its trading really cheap on Bittrex, but as they build to a full release i think this coin will absolutely explode.
