First post, might be off topic so sorry. I tried to send a dollar as a test to a bit address out of Coinbase and it looked like the fee was fifteen dollars. Did I do a calculation wrong?

Must use ledger nano especially if its big amount. And might as well put some in other wallets like Coins.ph, coinbase or blockchain. For now, I use coins.ph to easily get funds for emergency and for basic buy and sell btc.

I use coinbase and blockchain wallet.. and it's pretty good. You can try this wallet.

Here, I'll be recommend hardware wallet. Thus, It's a risky business leaving your money on an exchange. There is a better chance of you getting. I recommend moving it to another wallet like which control over private keys or pass phrase.

I suggest you to use Electrum. It is very easy to use even for newbies, you don't need to download the whole blockchain and its team always works hard to release updates.
