I am looking at privacy coins at the moment because I think they will benefit more than other categories this year. Particularly interested in Pivx as I think it has plenty of room to grow, especially with the reasonably low supply. Also like projects involved in AR/VR, whether they can live up to expectations is another matter; but I like Cappasity, even though it has performed shockingly since the turn of the year, and especially since their second phase of the ICO started. Confident it will bounce back though, time will tell. Any other categories worth looking at?
Yes, anonymous coins are cool. I think that now it is best to buy an anonymity coins and coins on which do ICO: Ethereum, Neo, and soon Stratis

Bank cards like Amon and Tenx, they offer people a way to spend their crypto. That means wider adoption by more people and price of all tokens will benefit as a result. The first company that can make crypto a viable payment option will be the new Visa of the crypto world.

I think that privacy focused coins are good but also very risky in this period when every government want to regulate crypto markets with stricly rules... my favourite sector is Automation

Blockchain infrastructure category should be on the top. Look at ico stat and how that was growing a lot since more and more new companies are using it right now. Just like NEO, When it was called antshares and the price was $0.2 this time it grew more than the majority of people expected.

And another category just like Data platform.
But the blockchain category should be on the top of your list. And then the majority of types are promising, but it must make sense to its business plan.

Private coins are usually good, but lately are paying close attention to them(state, hackers and exchanges), due to the inability to track transactions. I would advise to pay attention to the coins that make their own blockchain: Waves, Neo, Ada, Staratis, EOS.

You could also look in Zilliqa and NEX as these are great projects also.

Going to look into Zilliqa actually, been hearing a lot of good things. Utility tokens definitely have potential, but depend hugely on adoption, not that that is necessarily a bad thing, especially with solid projects.

so you're looking at a niche within a niche, which is rarely a good thing.

I like a niche within a niche, think it establishes them as experts in a field, especially when I think the current niche market will experience massive growth over the next few years. That said, I get what you're saying, it's a long shot for sure.

Not looking for specific projects necessarily, just a category that has the potential overall for the most growth. As I mentioned, I like privacy and AR/VR projects, but are there any other categories that have the potential to stand out? I guess finance is another one with massive potential, but think it's too early to tell which projects will emerge as the winners down the line.

I think that VR/AR has good potential like you said, but right now the industry is still in its infancy, the same goes with cryptocurrencies, so you're looking at a niche within a niche, which is rarely a good thing. You should focus on coins wide potential, platform and utility tokens, such as NEO and EOS. You could also look in Zilliqa and NEX as these are great projects also.
