Personally, I believe it is important to travel to places where the population is much less fortunate and developed than where I live (Canada). It shows us how lucky we are to have the things we do and to enjoy the simplest of things because many people struggle while we take those things for granted. I traveled to Peru when I was nine years old and when we hiked the Colca canyon mountain (five-day hike), we had to sleep in dirt houses where people lived their whole lives with barely any food, water and entertainment. We bought the whole village school supplies, sport balls and some new clothes. It completely changed their lives and mine as well.

Been to many Asian countries  but I would still choose home the Philippines, that is, if you set aside politics.
