So far, Steem is the pioneer in the decentralized social media space, and it has attracted thousands of people worldwide.

why do you think Steem is the answer here? and more importantly why do you even think Steem is decentralized?
you are talking about the "social media platform" aren't you? in which case Steem is not even a social media platform it is centralized website more like reddit.

you see the token called "steem" may be decentralized and it is obviously based on the blockchain technology but the "platform" called "steem" (which you are looking for as an alternative to centralized Facebook) is neither decentralized nor uses blockchain technology. it is simply a website like Facebook, Reddit,... where you have to first sign up on and whatever posts you make are stored in their centralized database (note that this database is not blockchain!) and they control your account and what you post so it is not decentralized either.

a decentralized social media platform is when you download a wallet, own private keys, make transactions (posts) and broadcast them to the network (other peers) on the P2P network instead of sending it to a server.

Thanks for your sharing. Almost people here are thinking about Steem.  My Steem account banned, that means they can control everything. So Steem isn't decentralized. I don't having experience in tech, is that right?

well as far as the platform goes (which is the only reason why they created this coin in first place) it is fully centralized. as you have experienced it already, they can "ban your account" which is a clear sign of centralized platform.

This is a very interesting topic, I only know Steemit, because they are the most popular social networking site on cryptocurrency Akasha is new to me although they are launch 2 years ago, they need marketing for awareness, Karmaapp is very interesting something we are looking for.
There are actually about ten decentralized blockchain base social networking site but steemit was the most popular because they understand and know how to make awareness about their project but for Akasha I believed the team had the experience you making the beat out of blockchain but don't know how to awareness.

Which social network platform based on Blockchain technology do you think is the best? Will it be Steem or the Akasha platform?

With growing concerns about Facebook's privacy measures, it seems that people are looking for other alternatives which are capable of protecting their personal data better. So far, Steem is the pioneer in the decentralized social media space, and it has attracted thousands of people worldwide. However, it's still far from behind as centralized social networks like Facebook and Twitter are in the lead.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? Any recommendations or suggestions related to said decentralized social networks will be highly appreciated. Also, I would appreciate if you could let me know of other new alternative social networks (apart from Steem and Akasha) that make use of Blockchain technology. Smiley
I think karma is good decentralize social network, karma be built on EOS blockchain technology, the karma system is like steemit and the interface is like facebook and other social media, but we can do stakes karma token to getting other karma token it is like mining cryptocurrencies, i think it is interesting for all of community which want know other decentralize social network based on the blockchain technology and here is the website of karma social network https://www.karmaapp.io

There is just one problem I have with steem, and I am sure if this problem is solved, we would see a very good improvement in the decentralized social media world, this problem is a user friendly platform, steemit lack a user friendly platform that everyone would be able to make use of without having to follow any online guide just like Facebook , this is why people keep leaving the platform for Facebook, and will keep leaving until the problem is solved.

Yes. Steem is not as user friendly as other social media platforms (like Facebook and Twitter). If Steem wants to become a viable competitor against centralized alternatives, this seems like the path to go. As a social media platform, you can have nifty features and all the bells and whistles around. But, if your platform doesn't have user friendliness, then I'm afraid that it will lack mainstream adoption.

I believe that's the main issue that Steem is facing right now. Despite this, Steem seems to be the best decentralized social network based on Blockchain tech. It has the biggest user base of all other decentralized alternatives available out there. What I'm looking forward though, is the stable release of the AKASHA platform. Being based on Ethereum's blockchain, I believe that it will be the "killer app" of the social network space.

Nonetheless, it'll be great to see more decentralized social networks emerge, as it will give people a variety of options to choose from. Just my thoughts Grin

You're right with what you said cause I personally left steem base on the exact problem which is not user friendly and I found it so annoying. Besides, steem is not totally decebtralized and I never use Akasha before but heard it fully decentralized since the project was from Swiss and base on ETH network it will be a good one.
Another blockchain base social network are Sola and Sapien which is new project.

Steem feels old though, there should be somewhat facebook like decentralize social media site created. It be helpful one day at least there will be no bias banning like what facebook is doing. Social media sites are being used in politics these days and you can see Trump presidency is an example of it. Centralization however isn't a good thing for it.

I think steemit leads the way right now in this category as of yet but i have heard few more projects under development one recent platform launched by bounty0x team called publish0x also seems good so we will see good competition in this nicje and hopefully better platforms will come up.

Can we really call Steemit a social media like Facebook and many others though I don't know much about the second one but I don't think Steemit can be regarded as a social media in all sense of it. I think Steemit can be best describes as blockchain blogging platform not social media

Social networks have long been dying, every day they sit less and less people to replace them came popular messengers. Support encryption and people do not worry about their data. Now it is difficult to call a good social.network with the future. Something new is needed!

Could we say Steem is leading in the social networks spaces? Personally, I'd use Steem to, and sometimes using it actively since a good post are widely spread there, it really engages a discussion, not to mention it gives a reward to the users though. In other hands, Steem somehow has a form of centralization, the first mining issues are one of the examples.
So, the competition for decentralized social networks are widely opened to the community, I'll look forward to Akasha though.
