You should better asked what is the most securest one instead of high volume and low fees. I can recommend Poloniex as one of the best exchanges. Okay, there is partly low volume (depends on the coin) but has a really good support and there have not been any hacks or negative news so far.

What is the highest volume, lowest fee exchange?

I think a distinction needs to be made between alt-coin exchanges like poloniex and cryptsy and sites where you exchange national currencies for bitcoin.  I don't have a lot of experience with the latter, only coinbase that you should avoid for a large number of reasons, but with the former I have enjoyed trading on poloniex.

I would agree with others that have said not to keep any more coin than you need to on the exchanges.

Good Luck!

I will make regular use of an exchange when there's one that can guarantee they're not going to front run me, fake their numbers or run away with all the cash. Until then there isn't a best exchange.

Keep your funds and trades spread across various exchanges.
It's best not to use any exchanges for storing your coins as they often unexpectedly go down or get hacked.
BTC-e can be good but there are various risks involved. Coinbase isn't too bad. For quick conversions, use shapeshift.io.
Other than that I would recommend a few others but they've all had some issues recently like hacks and thefts.

You need to be cautious with bitcoin exchanges. The problem right now is: they want your credentials and personal information. These data can be stored and used in the future - for example personal data people from MtGox were transferred to IRS AFAIK. Don't be surprised when tax agency will send you bitcoin tax form in the future just because you sell/buy bitcoin via exchange.

My current favorite is Poloniex. I enjoy the dark layout which feels nice on the eyes. If you are going to daytrade for hours it's an important feature to not end up blind, besides obvious reasons like great volume and good selection of coins.

My personal favorite is cryptsy.
Been using it for some years now.
While it is slow as F*** and sometime you get the feeling that they will steal your money,
they always resolved the issue and I never lost funds.
So I consider them very trustworthy.

The only thing is, don't expect to get fund fast on/off the bay.
But I guess as a day trader you need to have the coins permanently on the bay since minutuss really will coint when day trading. they have 2Fa too.

it's quite a personal preference. non asian exchanges have pretty steep fees if your trade volume is lower than a certain amount. if you're asian then join okcoin or huobi as they don't have fees.

But at least they aren't faking their volume Wink

I'd say BTC-E if you value anonymity and Bitfinex if you want high volume, but it's best to avoid all exchanges if you can.

That's also my opinion.
For maximum privacy it's best to avoid all exchanges and trade in person. But btc-e is also a good choice in that regard.

Indeed, Asian exchanges have long been suspected to generate fractional reserve Bitcoin by paying out "interest" - so you should be careful with them. Needless to say: Don't store large amounts of Bitcoin on any exchange!

I'd advise against daytrading. More than 90% of traders loose money in the long run - they greatly overestimate their abilities. It's not worth the risk. Better do some extra work for your Bitcoin, then buy and hodl. It's much more relaxing.
