I think binance, kucoin exchange is best to start your trading because they have proper volume and faster security. On the other hand they are always providing the best support to the users and they have telegram support to use almost all the languages of the countries. This question should really be asked by newbies as they are new to this but you may be an old member so do your research and pick the best exchange. However now almost all top exchanges have made kyc mandatory.

For beginner i will suggest kucoin or binance exchange ,Both  are very user friendly and  very easy to use . You can learn either spot trading or Futures on both platforms there are lots of educational contents and guides for newbies. The only con's about the exchanges is that both requires Kyc before one can be able to access their services now . I will also suggest that you find a pro that can help guide you with your crypto investment to avoid loosing so much money as you are just starting out now.
Lots of newbies in crypto that I know have used Binance, so you are right with that. I think I have also tried Kucoin in the past and I'm surprised that they their interface had a resemblance to Binance. So indeed that they are also user-friendly. It's great that the OP shared his location.

We almost forgot that this was also important because some crypto platforms has a country restriction. I still think that Binance operates globally because they are huge. They even have their own US version, as US is kind of a strict country. As a beginner, many are saying that they should start with spot trading as it's much easier, or less risky than the futures and other variations of trading.

The two altcoins I am talking about are Alliance Block & Kaspa which have both been very up and down over the last week or so. Alliance Block pumped 35% in less than a day today.

I am just getting bored of only buying and waiting for bull run as I have been doing that for almost 2 years now

Fellow, patience is the key to success better accumulate and have patience, rather than focusing on the pumps and dumps of the shitcoins. If you really want to take a risk better play with the Shitcoins and it's not wise at all.

2 years hmm until now you've controlled your mentioned better suppress them for some more time it will be really fruitful, there are several exchanges (Centralized) working in the UK, Binance, Gate io, OKX and I'm sure most of them require KYC so better proceed with that one in which you feel secure. KAS is good one but for the Block I cant say anything also the SOL chain is now a days overhyped and all the projects on the SOL are overvalued according to current market postion.

Up until now I have been just buying and patiently waiting for the bull run but in the last week I have seen 2 altcoins I was interested in pump up 40% in less than 24 hours so want to try make some money and give trading a go.

What is the best site for this in the UK?
For me any crypto trading/exchange site, for me it's the same, the important thing is that the official crypto exchange/trading site is legally operating in the country, or legal according to the laws in force in that country, for that reason I have also read and seen about 9 Best Crypto Exchanges UK in 2023 – Compare Crypto Trading Platforms., which operates in the UK to date.

But I don't know what type of crypto you want to trade and what you mean, overall any type of crypto other than Bitcoin currently doesn't look that good on average, but whatever the reason, you have full rights in determining the crypto trading you can do.

I hope you can enjoy the results of your crypto trading, on an exchange that you trust, hope that the type of crypto you choose will be a good thing for yourself.

I think if you are looking for the best exchanges for trading then definitely select exchanges like Binance or Kucoin. Because if you start trading in all these exchanges you will definitely never get scammed. Moreover, the main objective of trading is to start trading with the amount of money you can afford to lose. Otherwise if you search different places to start trading in all other coins you will definitely not find the right one so you can use coinmarketcap to find good coins.

It's acknowledging for someone to purchase bitcoin to the right time and most especially the time that is bearish and wait for bullish, sometimes some people doesn't verify or make a research concerning a coin that is good to invest on, instead they invest when market is on positive and secondly some of the coins they invest on, they doesn't really make a proper research to ensure that they have know the rudiments of coin before venturing into the investment, so that is one of the things that contribute for loss in investment even in the trading, before you venture into trading at the person should take a precautions so that they will not be huge experience of loss.
The best exchange for trading for the first time, I think we are using the biggest exchange at the moment, this aims to ensure that our funds are safe and of course the charts move according to existing market prices without any manipulation. so that we can carry out the strategy well and we can correct it if an error occurs. Therefore, when trading, you must be patient in the process

Using Binance Exchange for a long time I'm in love with that Exchange due to its impressive strong security through which my funds I seems are safe there.

We consider Binance exchange more secure as it is the most popular cryptocurrencies exchange in the crypto space. But centralized exchange will never 100% safe because it can be hacked at any time & you have no control with your assets, It's a big disadvantage in CEX's.
even more so at the time of controversy with these cex, currently binance just had this controversy and so many people are already ready to withdraw their money off the exchange.
but overall if its not that significant amount of capital any of these reputable exchange will do just fine, just be sure to pick exchange with most of the liquidity because thats where you might get the first market change impression than the other. moreover with using reputable exchange we could be prevented from mistakenly investing in some random meme coin which obviously didn't get through the review process of these reputable exchanges.
I think right now, the event where these exchange are losing some significant amount of money from their wallet are quite rare many of them has given some prevention from that from happening.

Am very conversant with the workings of Binance, mostly when it involves a newbie getting the hang of a simpler or lite version of the exchange to understand trading with.
Kucoin is also one of which will give a newbie a good experience too.

Incase a newbie understands how AI and bots work and how to apply them to trading effectively, Bitget will be better suited with such features to enable one relax more after setting a target using the bot tech.

Understanding things on these exchanges in a short time is quite easy, as Binance is one of them in which users can easily get the attraction to the Layout but in all of these after looking at the layout I can prefer MEXC would be better for those who just starts trading and that would be so much easy to getting the understandable trade in the start. Even though Bitget looks  a tricky to me, even I have used it less not that much but still I'm always attracted to Binance.

Binance always have some special things for users and I'm one of them who always follow it and trade there. Be aware of those exchanges which are not well known and which are not famous that much.

It is only your actions that will take you closer to your goals because success is your responsibility? It may not be my responsibility to act on your behalf, but allow me to remind you of this trip. I want you to remember that every journey in life involves some danger. Before you start trading, make sure you've done a lot of research on the coins you intend to buy. Don't rush because you've heard the bull run is knocking our door. The best thing for you to do right now is to go meet individuals who know a lot about different coins, and I can see that many people have recommended you with several sites that, if you take your time and look through them, will help you a lot.

I am only going to start with $200 roughly to see what I can turn it into over the next few weeks and months as the market is starting to get very volatile so could be good opportunity to make some extra money which would then mean I can invest more into my long term plays.

Yes, this is a fantastic option if you truly want to start with this small amount in order to learn about market tactics. As a biginner, it is not a good idea to start with a significant amount of money. Many people lose money because they to invest money that they cannot afford. It has occasionally happened that some people will take out a loan for investments. How about if you lose? For this reason, it's wise for someone to spend only amount they can bear to lose.

I have used bitforex exchange for success trading of altcoin. I found it well and trustful. This exchange give me good business in trading. This was my personal experience. I also have good experience on working Binance and kucoin also and Binance is mostly No.1 on ranking. There are some other good secure exchanges like coin base exchange kraken bybit ,okx, bitget, bit stamp, bitfinex, gemini,crpto.com exchage etc. These all exchanges are working well and these are secure and trustworthy. You ccn working on some of them according to your will.

buying such coins of course increases your risk of losing,
Every coin has a risk for you to lose. that's common in trading. Even if you choose Bitcoin in your trading, but you are not a good trader, you can still lose.

If you want to invest long term you can try Binance.
I don't understand the meaning of your suggestion. The OP is talking about altcoin trading. but you recommend long-term investment in Binance. Do you still think investing and putting your assets on an exchange is safe?

many exchanges are suitable for trading, especially those with good trading volume. but I'm not sure about the altcoin that OP mentioned.

because traders must be able to control their emotions.

With such an amount, you don’t really need to spend a lot of time searching for a special exchange, just choose from the top ones that are available in your region and start trading. I say that you need to choose from the top exchanges, because there is good liquidity there, but in your case this is not so important because with this amount it will not be so important for you. Now the most important thing is to learn how to make a profit.

Like I said I am not looking at trading to make a big return and if I start with $200 will be happy if I can turn that into $1k to then invest the profits in my long term position.

Alliance block I mentioned above has pumped even more and done over 55% now in less than 24 hours so had I put my $200 in when I thought I would now be over $300 in less then a day.
$200 to $1k is 5 times the upside, that's very extreme volatility in percentage terms. Hopefully it's not a bubble that will soon burst.

Quote
The plan would then be to put that $300+ into another coin that yet to pump, wait for it to go up then repeat till i reach $1k so it is swing trading I am thinking of.
Well, there are over 1k+ unpumped coins yet out there, how do you do that with $300?

Both of kucoin and mexc also major exchanges here you can trade without kyc but you can withdraw limited amount of USD.
You can no longer trade on Kucoin without passing KYC, Kucoin introduced compulsory KYC since July, and you need to verify your identity before you can access any of their services:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/kucoin-crypto-exchange-to-introduce-mandatory-kyc-in-july
I am users of Kucoin exchange for long time and used it without KYC, But this year i was not active in Kucoin, Actually i don't need to use Kucoin that might be my mistake, i don't know about they introduce KYC and it's mandatory. Thanks for the sharing it. Now only MEXC is not require to pass KYC i know.

I used to be a Kucoin user, but when there were changes in its policies that required having Kyc, I stopped using it, but I actually used it for a long time. It's good that when something is lost, there will be a replacement.

And like you, I'm also using Mexc now, because even though I don't have Kyc on this platform, I can freely do trading here and transactions in terms of deposit and withdrawal. Secondly, Gate.io is also okay with me, even without Kyc; it can also be used.

$200 to $1k is a massive achievement. It's huge if we want to consider your idea of, "not looking at trading to make a big return". Anyone who gets that ROI should applaud themselves for such a feat. Again, you shouldn't be carried away or be blinded by the profit you made by turning your $200 to $300 and then neglect the high risk associated with investment in altcoins. Mind the tokens you invest in. Also, always check and follow media channels of these tokens you've invested into to know what goes on with them. That way, you will easily know when a dump is coming or when favourable news emanate.

What exactly have you been buying?
Bitcoin or a stable coin?
OP mentioned it in their next post, perhaps you didn't read further. They said the alts were Alliance Block & Kaspa.
