If you're just using one card for now, use CCC 12.3.  I have 4 separate 7xxx cards going in one rig without any issues.  Haven't tried more than 4 though.

As for settings:

CGMiner
intensity: 7
vectors: 1
worksize: 256
kernel: diablo

MSI Afterburner
Core voltage: depends on your card (I leave mine at stock voltage)
Core clock: 1100 MHz
Memory clock: 170 MHz
Fan speed: 85%

This will yield 650 Mh/s.
I used intensity 11. Running at 673MHash.
Default volt, 1125 core, default memory.
How do I reduce the memory speed? I tried the slider in AB, but it doesn't change at all.
I read there's a special file that I need to change in AB, what would that be?

Intensity 11 is fine, but seems to cause CPU bug with multiple cards.  So I leave it on 7 with my miners.

You have to go into MSIAfterburner.cfg and change UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2.  When you open AB again, it will ask you to accept, click Yes.  Then you should be able to lower your memory speed and it should stick.  If you want to lower it even further, close AB, go into the Profiles folder (MSI Afterburner\Profiles) and delete anything that starts with VEN_.  When you open AB again, it will ask you to restart to detect default settings properly, click No.

Once i found the benefit of undervolting.  I will never run my cards flat out anymore, not unless btc's are 30 a piece!!

Minimizing electrical costs is such a short-sighted goal. The main goal should be to maximize profit.

Even if you paid 10c/kwh, it makes sense to run at stock volts and max out the GPU.

For your particular system:

3300MH/s generates at current difficulty and $5.2 exchange rate: $3957.24/yr
2750MH/s generates at current difficulty and $5.2 exchange rate: $3297.72/yr

1.44 kW * 24h/day * 365 day/yr * 0.1 $/kWh = $1261.44/yr
0.83 kW * 24h/day * 365 day/yr * 0.1 $/kWh = $727.08/yr

3300MH/s profit = $2695.8/yr
2750MH/s profit = $2570.64/yr

As long as your power supply can handle it, it makes sense to run stock voltage and overclocked.

I agree with you. Usually I don't care about the undervolt. Cause I know the calculation would be kind of close, and I just got lazy.

Will try 12.3 tonight, since the mobo only have 4 slots for max of 4 cards anyways.
So use the SDK with 12.3?

I was running 12.4 with the included SDK, and it runs at 460MHash at 1125Mhz core.... which is totally unacceptable!

No SDK with 12.3, just use the OpenCL drivers that come with 12.3.

Correct.

12.4 and on have been nothing but a headache with mining.  You have to use a dummy plug in order to get the correct hashing speed which is dumb.

Here's my number - FIVE .....as in, the number of 7970s in a single Windows Miner that 11.12 allows me to run. 12.x is pure FAIL for more than 4 cards.

OP states that he's running one GPU in the 2nd post We're not even sure he has enough PCI-E slots for 5 cards.

I'd like to see some hash rate vs MHz numbers posted by your 11.12 setup (as I'm not about to install the drivers and ruin my perfectly great 3x7970 setup on 12.3). I'll bet AMD has made some improvements to the OpenCL drivers that make 12.3 a better choice for mining than 11.12 in a <5 GPU scenario.

dont bet on amd making any 'improvements' . Personally, once a get a set of drivers working. i don't touch anything.

This following setup is using the beta drivers from amd website about week after launching the 7x cards.  don't know the number;

MSI GD70 mobo
SS1250 on 4cards
SS650 on 1 card
phenom 6core
4gigmem
westerndig 500
win 64

clocks
930/800/0.937v

Would you point to where to download 11.12 drivers for 7970? I googled and didn't really find it. Or would regular 11.12 driver work?
Also if you don't mind posting your cgminer settings, and core/mem/volt settings.
Thanks! Give me address for donations

BLAH!
Judging by your 'L33T GAMER' Sig, I am not sure if you are qualified to answer his request. Think MINING, NOT Gamer/Miner compromise.

The best info I've seen: Use 12.2.....
You obviously never got that info from someone running more than 4 cards in a machine under Windows.....but then again, what would I know. I only have 15 7970's running combined in 3 rigs.

Ad-hominem attacks are not effective on advancing your viewpoint. If you believe 11.12 is better, post numbers to prove your point, not attack the person.

Also, OP....
You have essentially just asked us "Which tires are best for a Chevy" ?

Windows ? Linux ?
Dedicated Miner ? Desktop ? Gaming Rig ? How many cards ?
Win7 x64, dedicated miner, one card now.

The best info I've seen: Use 12.2, with SDK 2.6 (not the included runtime with the driver). Use AB 2.2.1 to undervolt, and then use CGMiner to OC / manage fan control. That's about it.
Installed 12.2, then install SDK 2.6. Start cgminer, it says all devices disabled.

Catalyst 12.6. Don't install the SDK because the drivers already include the latest OpenCL drivers. I run 1200/685 @ 1.174V. Generates ~720 MH/s. I run DiabloMiner.exe -v -w 256.

11.12 7970 Release Edition using included SDK....FTW ! (regular 11.12 will not support 7970, check your reference card driver CD Wink )

12.x drivers blow dog (for Windows miners anyways). Try run more than 4x 7970s and you will see for yourself.
