See if the EVGA Supernova 1300W or Seasonic X 1250W is more affordable. Either way, check for 1 point reviews on Newegg and Amazon

1 point reviews for the corsair? I can't find them?

Thanks for the tips on the others I'll see what prices I can find.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I am about to order 3 x Asus AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB PCI-Express 3.0 HDMI  as recommended in this thread.

I am wondering which motherboard and PSU you recommend?

I am considering:

motherboards:

Gigabyte Z87X-OC S1150 Intel Z87 DDR3 ATX
or Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 DDR3 ATX

PSU:

Corsair AX1200i 1200W Digital ATX Power Supply 80 PLUS® Platinum

Is the 1200w too excessive? It's a pricey unit but I've heard good things.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

reflash their bios to undervolt, no other way
reflash to which version of bios? it has the 39 firmware already
You use VBE7 to modify your BIOS. I used ATIFlash to copy the BIOS directly from the card, lowered the voltage, and then reflashed my custom BIOS.

mmininginc - I have the ASUS R9 280x DC2 and 100% happy with it.
Like claygraffix I get 750kH/s with it. (undervoltaged + increased the engine clock with 80MHz)
But what I really like about this card is its superb and silent cooling system.

745khs out of the box on stock. Voltage is unlocked so you Undervolt to save power and heat which lowers fan noise as well.
My ASUS 280X-DC2T is running at 800 KH/s each while undervolted to 1100 mV (stock is 1200 mV). I paid extra for the "top edition" model. Would be interesting to see what others get with standard model.
How did you undervolt these cards? I can't get the voltage to change. Running BAMT. Tried AMDOverdriveCtrl and atitweak. Atitweak says the card is supposedly at 1.1V as does cgminer's debug_oc when starting the miner but they are always at stock when mining.

Additionally I had to change both via terminal, because for some reason AMDOverdriveCtrl says "Unable to initialize AMD ADL Library" when trying to start it. Catalyst Control Center cries initialization error as well. I even updated the ATI drivers but they still don't open.

Also to note these cards don't seem to have a switch so I'm not going to flash them.

Gigabyte R9 280x Rev2 is best. It produces 730k/s while its undervolted to 1.075V at 64C . Sapphires and other makes are power hungry. No other make can come close to Gigabyte version.

LOL, what settings are you using at 1.075V?
Iv'e only managed to get 680Kh/s max, but mine is on 1.131V. When i had it stock 1.2V it barely reached 600Kh/s
Thanks

omg, the settings worked, lol, though i only get 715Kh/s thanks

That is about max for our card my man.

Running 6 x Asus R9 280x with two more arriving any day now.

745khs out of the box on stock. Voltage is unlocked so you Undervolt to save power and heat which lowers fan noise as well.

Don't recommend the Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Dual-X as they throttle at 72c or something silly.

Go with the ASUS, you wont regret it. I haven't

I'm running Gigabyte and Sapphire 280x @ 730 and 750 Kh/s.

Sapphire doing the right job.

I think you have plugged both the cards in the motherboard...
maybe you should use riser cables and keeps the cards a little apart to maintain the temperature issues, then you'll have good performance on both

I will have to concur with epicjim. Any Gigabyte owner should be using these settings. Started using them last night. I only have one, but if I keep only CGminer running it will stay at 730 Kh/s.

Thanks again jim Smiley

with all the configs i could find over here and google my vapourX doesn't give above 730kh/s. i also got a new asus dc2t R9-280x, wich is $50 cheaper than the VaporX.
i had my new asus dc2t for 24h and i'll confirm it gives a steady 750-753kh/s stable.
