Trustwallet and Tronlink both are great wallet in purpose to use usdt-trc20 token. Right now, Tronlink make me more comfortable but using Trustwallet in order to connect other dAPPS. Trustwallet is where i can put my trust, works fine for me.
You are absolutely right. I am also use Trust Wallet. The reason behind my use of Trust Wallet is it is a multicurrency wallet. I can store so many coins in this wallet also it is very suitable to use DEX.

You can do that already. For example you can add BSC, Fantom, and so on. Do you want to add tron network too? Maybe it's possible since Tron is a "copy" of ETH. Just take a look at their documentation.

Most multicurrency wallets support TRC20,trust wallet most widely used and easy-to-use wallet. Besides you can also refer to Safepal Wallet.

I guess the most popular trx wallet for usdt trc20 at this moment is Klever wallet before I use tronlink but klever has more coins that support other blockchains that is why I change to Klever wallet
^ kleverwallet is a good wallet but currently, I am more active in using trustwallet and mathwallet for USDT TRX. but I still link it with my tronlink. 
Atomic wallet is also a good wallet for USDT TRC20 IMHO based on my experience.
But if you're not comfortable with multicurrency wallets including Trust wallet. Follow those suggestions that are saying about tron link. I might use that too in the future if I want to try another wallet.

Sadly if you will never able to use sync your metamask with tron network as tron network is not compliant with ethereum. Both were using different encryption and that makes the address generated by tron was different from ethereum. The tron users will never able to use metamask until tron can create a smart bridge to build a side chain that cam compatible with ethereum network.
I hope justin will try to consider this. Tron needs something big to be able compete with BSC

I have been using trust wallet and Enjin wallet for some time now, trust wallet support trc20 usdt so I use it most times to store or receive usdt trc20, however, I just recently installed safepal wallet because of bsc usdt request and I must say I like what I see, safepal wallet has several options to chose from regarding the network and wallet type, example, for the btc wallet it has 3 option to chose either legacy, segwit, or native segwit, there is also the bep20 usdt, erc20 usdt and trc20 usdt, then wrapped aUSDT, cUSDT for both Aave and Compound respectively,

Metamask is more than capable but many people don't just know it, you can run any mainnet or network on metamask not just binance smart chain only, even the new Sovryn project that's running on RSK mainnet is working on metamask, lately I'm in love with the wallet honestly
Tron chain was using different SHA for its wallet and it's not the same like BSC which was compatible with ETH asset and SHA to generate the address. RSK network was also using the same mechanism like Ethereum network and that's why ethereum network can be used to store RSK asset but what about tron? Are you joking about that or what? Metamask is not capable to run the tron network.
It was having different specification and tron network is not compliant with ethereum network. both were different.

Nowadays, USDT is now based on or supported by a lot of blockchain networks such as Binance, Ethereum, Omini, Tron etc and as such a good number of wallet applications like Trust wallet, Tokenpocket, SafePal supports a lot of these USDT on different networks. Returning to your question, I don't think there is any wallet which is better than the other, because those wallets be it Trust wallet or Tokenpocket are always improving and supporting more blockchain networks so as to remain relevant to users. Therefore in my own opinion, you can use any but If you want to separate your tokens according to their blockchain networks, then use Tokenpocket as it separates tokens according to the blockchain network they are based on.
I curentky using Trust wallet and work fine and for trc20 im using tronlink
