For me, it  has been exchange wallets. Just be sure it is going to support it. No hassle at all.
I even didn't knew some of the forks were happening. And I have balances added every week.

There are conceptually two broad categories of the wallets you are looking for.

1. Online wallets: In these wallets it needs you to connect to the internet and then save your stakes. However, you need to essentially keep your “private keys” secure to safeguard your hard earned BTC. A few to recommend would be Exodus, Electrum, Coinomi, Jaxx etc.

2. Offline wallets: On the other hand, in offline wallets, they are not just hardware wallets. Practically any wallet that never needs to connects to the internet to interact falls under this category. However, technically the moment you connect to the internet they no longer remain “Offline”. Here you just need to download the link and install it. A few to recommend would be Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin paper wallet, Ledger, Nano S, Trezor, Electrum, etc.

Now it is you who has to decide which one to choose. But generally as long as you can keep your private keys secure you could use either one.

How will one retrive the new coins after the fork, assume you qualify since you hold your private key.

If your coin is in coinomi or electrum you can still get your btg.
Just follow the steps here https://coinomi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29000016813-collecting-your-free-bitcoin-gold-btg-coins-with-coinomi

Newbie here and I would like to know where is the best place to store our btc during the upcoming hardfork where we can receive bitcoin gold as well.

How will be receive some tokens during the split?
You should use separate wallets for BTC and bitcoin gold. shared can easily lead to confusion. If you go wrong, you have no way to get it back!
Avoid losing private key!

I recommend a Ledger Nano from www.gotcryptowallet.com if you are thinking about securing your crypto.  It can hold other coins as well.

You can use the Electrum Gold wallet for bitcoin gold https://www.electrum-gold.org

This site is distributing malware. The Microsoft codesigning is fraudulent (lists [email protected]) . The source code download is just a ZIP bomb. Do not use.

you can use Electrum Gold Wallet https://www.electrum-gold.org

That would probably be one of the worst mistakes you could ever make.

The best wallet to store your BTC during the fork is the Samourai Wallet as they will have an auto-dump feature for that shitcoin of a forkcoin Bitcoin Gold. More copies will follow!

For me Coinomi wallet is my best shot.

As i know, coinomi is the fastest wallet that gave bitcoin cash airdrop before this (after segwit). Hope coinomi do the same for next split

should be good with coinomi:

The best wallet to receive your future Bitcoin gold is Bitcoin core.
With Bitcoin core you have your Bitcoin in the real Bitcoin blockchain and you have the pricate keys for these adddress.

But, be carrefull, we don't know when will be the blockchain snapshot for the hard fork : Bitcoin gold is a partially premine coin and the snapshot was perhaps yesterday or before.

Sorry, what does it mean for the snapshot to have already occurred, could you please elaborate? thx.

Snapshot is taken of bitcoin blockchain which records the coin balances of all bitcoin accounts at the time it was taken.
This means that if you have X amounts of BTC at the time of snapshot, you would get the same X amounts in the forked coin.
I don't know the date when the Bitcoin Gold snapshot would be taken.

25th October, block 491407

Thank you! I was looking for that and very much appreciated.

Electrum gives me several private keys. How do I know which one to use?

Every address that contains Bitcoin will also contain Bitcoin Gold.  You will need all non-empty private keys.
If you don't know what you are doing, it would be best not to do anything though as you may end up losing your Bitcoins.

Yes.

The only exception is if the exchange as agreed to allocate the new coins to their users wallets. Exchanges would announce this intent before the hardfork. The only one I know of who's announced this intent is the Freebitco.in exchange.

But, be carrefull, we don't know when will be the blockchain snapshot for the hard fork : Bitcoin gold is a partially premine coin and the snapshot was perhaps yesterday or before.

Sorry, what does it mean for the snapshot to have already occurred, could you please elaborate? thx.

He's referring to the point in time when the hard fork will occur, at that time the Bitcoin Gold folks (developers) will take a "snapshot" of the Bitcoin blockchain and then assign Bitcoin Gold to each private key address in an amount that equals the amount of Bitcoin held by that address.

This is what creates the allocation for the airdrop of Bitcoin Gold.

Ok, but it does it also mean that the bitcoin needs to be in a personal wallet on the snapshot date? If the bitcoin is in an exchange wallet on the snapshot date, does it mean that the BTG is allocated to the exchange? Thx.

I am just a noob here I am really for the question and that you for the understanding I am really just a noob. I am in the process of learning everything here step by step.

It seems like you don't have any tokens to worry about.  Be careful; people might start confusing you for a sig spammer.

Yup no tokens yet but got a little amount from faucets.

•So is my question bad? So in the results are being a sig spammer? I dont get it still a newbie when it comes to a bitcoin conversation.

With recent bittrex announcement if you deposit their bitcoins there before the fork they will take a snapshot of all of the user's balances before 25th october. You will get 1:1 ratio which means 1 btg for 1 btc.
