Second wave...i'd say. No way to compete against miners.

Pooled mining works with spare resources. I have a 6990 (about $400 on ebay) running phoenix 2 on win 7 with aggression at 3 and barely notice it running all day while I am at work. My fan is at 30percent right now and I am getting about .07bc/day. Currently that is about $3/day . I just cashed in my btc from the last year for about $700. Although most were earned while difficulty were lower, this was only a part time rig.

What do you think the best way to get bitcoins is?

Is it mining solo for a year or joining a pool?

Or is it doing random surveys that steal your info?

EDIT: Without using any money generated not by bitcoins

At current bitcoin prices $40-50 you can still cover your electricity bill with graphics cards but this may not last much longer.

Use http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ to predict your costs and profit.

Ati 5830 cards are probably the cheapest they mine as fast as my 7850s (but use a bit more electricity)

So it's not too late if you have access to computing resources (GPU/FPGA/ASIC) + electricity which is less than the BTC mining rate...

Unless you have a LOT of GPUs running mining is usually actually costing you more than you are making, and those free bitcoin things would take like a year to get enough to buy anything at all.

it too late to mine for coin right now,

Why is it too late?

It is late to mine bitcoins, unless your electricity fee is "free of charge", but one may try litecoin mining and exchanging it for bitcoins. http://dustcoin.com/mining

You also have to consider reduced living of your GPU when mining. Even with "free" electricity i will stop mining soon after difficulty climbs a bit more, not worth the risk of buying new GPU due to malfunction ...

If you're going to start mining, make sure you understand the cost of the electricity you'll be using and the equipment you'll be buying. You could easily end up losing more than you would if you had just bought bitcoins directly.

Sell something used that is valueable enough and someone will defently buy it.
Something that you bought and do not use that much anyway Cheesy

To get initial fraction of bitcoin one could do this:

1. Get ripples (free ones).
2. Exchange 35k XRP into 0.7 btc. (need to find someone willing to do so, i already did)

That's probably what many of bitcoin users did.

(edit: only applies if you registered here before give away began)
