A scammer called one of my friend with one number claiming to be me and possibly mimicked my voice using A1 or whatever. He claimed that his phone was off because he slept in the hospital. for my friend I was the one talking. He told him that my mother was at hospital laying critically sick and  ask for financial support.

He told him  that he needed $2000 to make initial deposit to  enable the doctors commerce treatment. He was sounding very pitiable and helpless. my friend thought I was truly the one calling and had sympathy and pity and requested for account details but surprisingly the account details the scammer sent wasn't beering my name. my friend called me and it rang. He was surprised and asked if I had charged my phone. I told him my phone has been on. He ask about my mother , I told him my mother was good at home He ask me my location and I told him I was at work. He then told me what is happening. I quickly called him on WhatsApp video to show him it was a scam and that neither my mother nor myself was in the hospital.

scammers have deviced another means of scamming and defrauding people. thank God my friend didn't transfered money to the thief. we have been calling the number since then but switched off. A lot of things are happening.
please, if You received a distress text message or call from your friends or relatives asking for financial help , verify before you  send the money especially if the account details and phone number is not that of your relatives or friend in questions.

what can we do, to avoid being a victim.

Scammers are everywhere and this is a serious case to be tackled.

And most times we act so adamant towards some careless issues that make us fall victims of their trap.

And i think its when we prone our personal information to be insecure, that way they can get full access and disrupt everything to a point of tarnishing our image...

We just need to be alert and more security concious to be a step ahead of them.

People are just too lazy to use their brains legally but they prefer to use it illegal, forgetting that they will do better off,if they stay away from illegal activities. Scammers are everywhere and they come up with new strategy every time. This is why it is better to be vigilant and trust nobody on phone or on internet claiming to be someone that you know. You should ask some questions that are private about the person that they claim to be.

The funny thing is that sometimes they guess this numbers that they call or email that they send mails to. Before you know it,you will see that you have a new mail in the morning and when you click on it,a scam story. Or you pick up your call and you hear someone claiming to know you with the little information that he got about you. We all know our  weaknesses in terms of cyber security let work and improve it for our safety.

Just last year our government imposed strict rules on phone network companies because of these frauds and they've done well since it decreased the results of scams nowadays. But this kind of fraud you are talking about is only in the movies, I never thought someone could actually mimic our voice, and the worst of the matter is, that they are using it to scam others with the voice they recognized as their friends and families. that's why we always need to update ourselves in terms of how to prevent ourselves from becoming victims of such kinds of scams because they always get updated and know exactly what to do to fool their victims.

Be cautious with personal information, avoid sharing sensitive details like passwords or financial information unless absolutely necessary. Always double & triple check emails, websites or callers before providing any information. Look for signs of legitimacy such as official email addresses or secure website connections.

Always use strong, unique passwords, create complex passwords for different accounts and consider using a password manager.

Be skeptical of unsolicited communication: Be wary of unexpected emails, calls, or messages asking for personal information or urgent action..

Keep software up to date, regularly update your operating system, antivirus & other software to ensure security patches are in place. Enable two-factor authentication, use this additional layer of security whenever possible to protect your accounts.

This is the message and that is also what we can do to avoid falling into the scam. This pattern of scamming has been on for long time but if you are careful then you will pick the red lines. One way you can get these red lines is to delay the process a little or stretch the conversation they will begin to be restive to continue.

Also you can get hold of the trick with the third party bank account details like you did. This is also the reason some businesses don't allow third party financial transaction especially if you are requesting to withdraw like in casinos and other online business transactions because they believe any thing is possible to happen to your account like being hacked, so if you are not requesting withdrawal to be received in your account registered with them you may need to go through longer process that is not the usual just to delay you and in the process verify. We have to be careful because scammers come in different ways.
I agree with you,  third-party payment open ways for criminal penetration just like In this case,  and more also one have to be overly sceptical about the too good to be true or whatever the other person at the other hand is telling,  any conversation that is putting you into pressure to act is a red line also and we have to be more careful when it comes financial payments.

Most casinos and exchanges are already aware of this which is why the prohibit third-party payments.

what can we do, to avoid being a victim.

1) Make sure you keep your personal information safe. Don't expose your information on third-party platforms and social media
2) Ensure you secure your phone from hacking and phishing. Avoid clicking on links randomly without checks.
3) Don't be greedy because scammers always come up with enticing schemes with high profits.
4) In any case of hack or security compromise ensure you go through the right recovery and security process.
5) Be sensitive and avoid making hasty decisions. When you receive such calls or messages contact the people involved and don't rush into action. Your friend was able to outsmart the scammers because he didn't allow the situation to distort his sense of reasoning. He had to confirm the situation with you first.

Let's be careful of scammers, many people are scammed especially on websites to earn a lot of money, so let's all be careful and also don't give important information to people we don't know.
Almost 80%+ of the internet users have either been scammed before or are about to get scammed and funny enough to the extent that the number of scammers is still on the increase and even those who may have had multiple bad experiences with those scammers still fall victim to new tricks and this has made us to be worried and on our ability to protect ourselves.

This type of scam is very popular and I have received numerous calls from such scammers before but due to my experience over time,  I can easily detect whether or not the person on the other end is a scammer of not.

I just imagine how someone can pull off that trick and would work well in his favour. How can your friend be like this, if you claim him to be your friend, he should be able to dictate your voice easily amongst thousand voice echoing. But he failed to dictate this particular one which happens to involve money. I don’t know how an AI can mimic voice or any tool whatsoever. But your friend should be smarter than this to avoid future occurrence of such

If your friend trust you so much and believed in you, he wouldn’t go extra mile to want to confirm that it’s you he’s really talking to now through WhatsApp call.
Message well passed and one should be careful when it involves transferring of money from one party to another. Always call to confirm especially when there’s a different name with the person that gave you the account details that you know he or she with.

We can't do anything else then getting proper awareness related to such scams. I have also heard a similar story sometime ago and the scammers used same kind of AI voice cloning tools to scam many people by mimicking the voice of their loved ones. Sometimes we really can't decide that what to do in such situations and we become helpless because the scammers create a scenario that we can't ignore at any cost.

Like in your friend's case he had no option but to send money to his friend because his friend's mother was in hospital and a good friend will most probably help in such situations without asking for much details, but your friend was smart enough that he called you because otherwise he would have lost his $2000 to a scammer. I think you've done a great job by telling us about that scamming tactic those scammers tried on your friend because such threads can educate others to be aware of such scams and they can then avoid being victim of such scams. AI is really going to cause much trouble in future, and that's why I think we should be well prepared to find solutions for those troubles in advance.

scammers have developed so many ways of carryout there missions. which most of them are

1 when they inbox you, they will call you to resend the message to them. if you does , you have given them access to carry on there mission.

2 do not allow them to have access to your phone or laptop. and never keep any important password on your phone.

people should know how to avoid them , don't keep any important bank details on your phone. civilization and technology have killed us.

In America, with all the inflation, it seems to be that the honest ones are the ones living in their car, and prostituting their bodies for enough money just to be able to afford to eat.

lately there have been a lot of scams both by telephone and social media. I think because they really need money, that's why they do all kinds of ways to get money even in the wrong way... and it's good for us to be aware of unknown numbers, don't believe it right away, so be careful. . . .

The number of scammers are increasing and the number of methods are also increasing. Scammers try to make use of new technology before a number of people know about them to defraud their victims before the technology becomes popular. For these new kind of scams, a way to avoid falling victim is to always verify and ask for reasonable evidence. I understand that friends and family are supposed to help each other, but even for that reason, no one has the right to demand my money that I disciplined myself to keep, nobody has the right to demand for it via emergency that will make me make decisions without thinking.

That scam is common everywhere and I think before they attack a target, they're knowing first details of the victim that they're going to copy. That's why they're also observant before doing the scam and you don't display all your sensitive information on the web or any social media platform.

what can we do, to avoid being a victim.
Talk to your family that you should have a sign or words to say that you're actually legit the ones talking to them and vice versa. If that word isn't mentioned by the caller then that means it's not you that's calling them for help. Start to do this in circle of your family and have yourselves call sign that you and them only know it, don't tell it publicly because the scammer might know what you're up to and will also copy that call sign of yours or anything that's going to be unique and you can identify each of yourselves easily.
