I don't give a f about laser engraving, but how much an engraving would degrade thermal transfer?
I don't see Nvidia or AMD worried about this...

Thermal performance should be better without the laser engraving though, so thats good.

Yes - shiny smooth silicon is the best thermal interface and what I want to see.

ya, betsofbitco.in is great and all, but not really comparable to intrade.
a better domain name, more functionality, etc. and relaunch are needed.

Half expecting the airline to accidentally that bag to the wrong country.

seems like a valid reason for another delay.  Where can I bet on this?

Zerohedge reports InTrade is suddenly out of business, closed for legal reasons.

Golden opportunity here for a bitcoin-based prediction market .  Right place, meet right time.

The chips look like shiny mirrors. BFL should take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.

I'm disappointed that there's not a laser-engraved holographic BFL logo on the face.

Steve Jobs would not approve.

It's still good to see progress though.  Yeah if this batch is for whatever crazy reason, bad, I'm sure plenty will cancel their orders.  But that precludes BFL still eventually being able to create and ship units, just far later than anyone ever thought if that were the case.

Safe travels Josh and good luck in final testing.

First part of the 5000.  The chips I have with me (not many) are all for test boards... the shipping chips and boards are coming along behind me via FedEx.

The thing to point out in all this is the fact that they threw away an entire wafer.

Right now, despite being packaged, they are still testing the quality of the chips. The only difference is that Josh is flying the chips to the testers with a package on them rather than without.

There is no chance in hell they are going to be shipping soon if there is something wrong with the chips at this stage.

I can imagine Josh's story will go something like this:

Quote
An old lady on a motorized scooter just stole my bag of chips at the airport. As she was zooming away, she screamed "haha bitches, 5000 giga hashes!" This is truely a set back that I didn't see coming.

Crap!...corrected.
Anyway, one way or another soon we will have an outcome of some sort. Let´s hope is successful delivery and goods are working as planed.
Now is the last chance of redeeming.
If BFL is failing again even the most faithful customers/suporters will turn against them.
