Exchanges are the places where supply and demand meet, so to speak, in what is known as the price discovery mechanism. Without exchanges the very notion of market price which is determined by the balance of supply and demand would remain vague and erratic. And it cannot exist without a market, while exchanges obviously embody the concept of market in real life...

And still more so with Bitcoin given its volatility and speculative nature

Of course, without the exchange there can not be a coordinating mechanism between demand and supply, hence everything will just be there without being organized. The exchange actually helps to maintain the equilibrium in the entire system.
Bitcoin system's basic design concepts creates extra demand (every four years at least), with non-regular supply to have value for bitcoins, that will always lead to boom not to a big crash.

Such things are almost always a Black Swan event of sorts, something that nobody expects to happen (at least, in the nearest future), and then, all of a sudden, the shit massively and explosively hits the fan. if there is a big crash coming up ,then people might start purchasing virtual currency which would boost the value of bitcoin and other coins ,it is highly unlikely that we would see a crash as big as the last one.

I think this is just marketing strategy to incourage other members here in our forum to be invest in altcoin..

Every time FIAT economy is in trouble alternative assets like Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies gain momentum.

That is correct, Bitcoin is based completely on supply and demand. Each individual exchange handles their own pricing procedure.
