Hm, don't know if this was posted, but a norwegian paper, digi.no wrote that GoDaddy reversed their position in regards to SOPA:

Go Daddy No Longer Supports SOPA
Looks to Internet Community & Fellow Tech Leaders to Develop Legislation We All Support

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Dec. 23, 2011) - Go Daddy is no longer supporting SOPA, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" currently working its way through U.S. Congress.

"Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance, which is why Go Daddy has been working to help craft revisions to this legislation - but we can clearly do better," Warren Adelman, Go Daddy's newly appointed CEO, said. "It's very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it."

Go Daddy and its General Counsel, Christine Jones, have worked with federal lawmakers for months to help craft revisions to legislation first introduced some three years ago. Jones has fought to express the concerns of the entire Internet community and to improve the bill by proposing changes to key defined terms, limitations on DNS filtering to ensure the integrity of the Internet, more significant consequences for frivolous claims, and specific provisions to protect free speech.

"As a company that is all about innovation, with our own technology and in support of our customers, Go Daddy is rooted in the idea of First Amendment Rights and believes 100 percent that the Internet is a key engine for our new economy," said Adelman.

In changing its position, Go Daddy remains steadfast in its promise to support security and stability of the Internet. In an effort to eliminate any confusion about its reversal on SOPA though, Jones has removed blog postings that had outlined areas of the bill Go Daddy did support.

"Go Daddy has always fought to preserve the intellectual property rights of third parties, and will continue to do so in the future," Jones said.

You divide you page rank by the links on the page. More links means less weight per link. Being targeted matters.

This assumes that Google does not lower the ranking of pages appearing to participate in a "google bomb".

Not likely. This is more of a real positive link, rather than ones like "miserable failure." Their bot should see this as just other sites voting up namecheap over godaddy.

I know it sucks that Namecheap will by default get the hits, but for this to have any effect, the focus has to be on just Namecheap in order to change the serps.

A better way to fight against GoDaddy:

https://plus.google.com/115702843161763309837/posts/2QqAe6xP7Xk

GoDaddy has been a supporter of SOPA which has caused many to boycott them.

Here is an even better way to hit them in the bottom line...

Add this somewhere in your webpage (you can just stick it somewhere in the footer)
http://www.namecheap.com">Domain Registration

GoDaddy is #1 in google for "Domain Registration", but if enough people link to this (it doesn't take much) they will be nocked out of the coveted top spot. This will be a huge dent in their revenue stream, as I think their target audience are people that just chose the first google result.

This is referred to as a "google bomb" and it works by the fact that search ranking is based upon the the weight of the links pointed to a page. The name of the link helps them correlate the search terms that match with the link.

Namecheap was chosen as they have a high ranking (so they have a good chance at popping to the top) and has been vocal in being anti-SOPA. You can use the coupon code "SOPASucks" to get a discount there too.

I just added it to editthis.info and cueflash.com (both with a page rank of 5). That will hit them in the SEOs.

edit: I added this to explain why I was linking:

if you think SOPA is bad, what could be done instead to effectively downsize piracy on the internet?
Oh the old trick of the trolls  Roll Eyes The "propose something good against X or accept Y" (even if Y isn't related to X in anyway, like sopa with piracy) Roll Eyes

as i understand, in your view sopa is bad, it has nothing to do with piracy other than sharing common term and it seems you want to completely ignore piracy issue. right?

you imply piracy is there to stay and nothing can be done, it will exist forever. to which i can agree with you partially that we won't be able to get rid off it completely.
in my view some measures should be taken to protect IP and copyrighted material more effectively than what current laws do. if you can't see or agree that piracy is an issue on the internet today, then there is not much left to talk about i guess on this issue.

anyone else care to elaborate what could be done to downsize piracy on the net?   or how SOPA could be used to censor the internet? excluding wikileaks example, as it's obvious and probably single instance where sopa could be utilized in such a way.

So the "Stop Online Piracy Act" has nothing to do with piracy?  Oh, and having a different opinion than you doesn't make someone a troll.

That remind me about the Ubisoft DRM, they made them to fight piracy. Result? Pirates still happily crack their games like before while honest buyers have to battle with the drm and all the problems it create.
Did DRM do something against piracy? No. But omg it was CREATED to fight it!

I personally haven't settled on Namecheap, I am currently reading people debate how Namecheap handles their password hashes http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/nnynm/imgurcom_is_with_godaddy_alan_schaaf_the_founder/c3alved
Thank you a million times for finding this. I was well on my way to hopping over to Namecheap, but I'll see how things pan out with this before making any moves.

I have read enough for the past couple of hours, the too little too late sentiment regarding GoDaddy is sticking with me strongly.

I am going to look at the options people are making available, and I have no spare cash so if this is something that will cost me anything, than I am fucked here until next week sometime, but what are the best options?  I have seen some links for pages to make transferring off GoDaddy so simple, but they are all down.  Not that I can't figure out the back end of GoDaddy to transfer shit out of there, but I am lazy and enjoy reading large jpgs of text that offers things in five easy steps.

Parsons stars in a self-help video blog, released bi-monthly on his website. His sidekick in the elaborately-produced videos is a busty blonde named "Leann" who inexplicably breaks into fake gangsta slang at random times. Episode #35 of Parson's blog is called "How to grow STEEL BALLS (even if you're a woman)."

Parsons cannot get enough attention. He loves publicity so much that GoDaddy called off an IPO in 2006 because of a "quiet period" which meant Parsons would have had to cancel his Internet radio show and stay off TV and radio. "For us, the quiet period that came along with the I.P.O. filing has been suffocating," he wrote on his blog.

He once wrote about how he was a fan of abusing Guantanamo Bay detainees because it was "incredibly mild" compared to what the terrorists were up to. Then he backed down after public outcry.
Parsons' YouTube account features a 7-minute trailer to his 2009 wedding video. His wedding video has a trailer. And it looks to have been shot for IMAX.

Parsons lives according to 16 principles, including such revolutionary mantras as "take things a day at a time" and "solve your own problems."

Parsons' Twitter handle is Drbobparsons. But his bio states "Not a real doc." In fact, Parsons received an honorary doctorate of "Humane Letters" from the University of Maryland.

He has a giant diamond stud in one ear.

http://godaddyboycott.org/ :

"Boycott GoDaddy until they send a letter to Congress taking back any and all support of the House and Senate versions of the internet censorship bill, both SOPA and PIPA. Since the announcement of the boycott of GoDaddy, GoDaddy has just publicly dropped their support of the heinous Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA. But, they still support the Senate version of SOPA, called PIPA or PROTECT-IP. If you work on the internet and do business with GoDaddy you're supporting a company who is actively working against your best interests."

http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/nokde/it_sounds_obvious_but_godaddys_sopa_flipflop_is_a/ :

"It sounds obvious, but; GoDaddy's SOPA flip-flop is a PR stunt to try to stop losing money. They haven't changed, keep boycotting, please!"

I'm looking for a registrar with sub-10-dollar renewal fees for com/net/org/in domains, and a pretty and functional administration interface.

If anyone has any recommendations or even referral codes, feel free to post them.

I use Namecheap.
Thanks. So far, they seem the most promising.

I use register.com.  The default price is $35, but somewhere on the net (I google for it, it's easy to find) has a promotional link that drops it down to $10.  Always been happy and they are far less spammy than godaddy.
Thanks, but I can't do without support for the "in" TLD.
