i got this error when I tried my address (from GreenAddress) on this site:
http://www.bitcoinget.com/
This is my address
338Sfm52VhEbwMbtNc7EhYYLipzox7MErU

I tried getting newaddresses many times, it always gives this error. Please help meby checking if thi is valid address?
It's valid, the problem is with BitcoinGet. You should report the issue to them.

Also note that this topic is over a year old and relates to a (long since resolved) issue on an entirely different site. For future reference, you should create a new topic if your issue differs in any substantial way from one already reported.

It is not surprising to see that faucet sites do not support the use of multisig addresses. After all, the target users of faucets are newbies and 99.9% of them have no idea what it is. Smiley

I don't know if you figured this out yet but I just replied to this in another thread:

Hey!
I just announced my new site, bitcoins4.me! You can get bitcoins for free every hour, just by submiting your address. Payments are made in about one day.
You can keep track of updates in this topic.

 Smiley

If any of you try it out let us know if you get a payout.

I've tried this site ...
http://www.bitcoins4.me/

and it says "Error! The address is not valid. Try again."

and this other one based in spain ...
http://www.elbitcoingratis.es/

which says "ERROR: La direccion de tu Bitcoin Wallet NO es correcta, compruebala."

... So two different sites saying that my address is invalid although I have used this address on about 20 different sites with no problem .  Anyone else getting this ?

I have noticed this too with bitcoins4.me.  Is the address you used less than 34 characters?
It seems that site rejects valid addresses with less than that number of characters even though there are valid Bitcoin addresses which have only 33 characters.

Just use another address for that site until they get it fixed.

I believe this is a bug at http://www.bitcoins4.me/

You can try and contact them and let them know that their website is broken.

No contact info I can see on their site. Did a whois but couldn't find an email address.

Thanks man I appreciate the help. Will that now show up in the transactions in my wallet?

@BurtW thanks This is the address in question: 18mKqo57VSmxq1ecUZ5Uu2DYNZdjCaeFa

As far as I can tell, that is a valid address.

As far as I can tell, http://www.bitcoins4.me/ does not recognize that as a valid address.

I believe this is a bug at http://www.bitcoins4.me/

Thanks Danny I'll let them know.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

@DeathAndTaxes I copied the address from the wallet and pasted it straight into the textbox on the site so I'm certain there was no white space.

@DannyHamilton thanks for clarifying that. It makes much sense. I just have gold fever. I'm making peanuts with my HD5850 but am quite addicted to it, especially while the exchange rate climbs. Wish I'd have been into this sooner. I'm always late to the party Smiley

Also, is there any risk submitting your address to public sites and forums? Could the information assist hackers? That's the only reason I can think of for people giving away BTC

When you receive bitcoins, your bitcoin address is permanently stored in the VERY PUBLIC blockchain that every full node has a complete copy of.  If having your bitcoin address could assist hackers in spending your bitcoins, then bitcoin wouldn't exist.

The reason these websites are giving away incredibly small fractions of a penny worth of bitcoin is because they are being paid to display advertisement banners.  They use the promise of "free bitcoins" to get you to see the advertisement, and then pay you such a small amount that it is really pretty useless.  You may even find that you have to pay more in transaction fees than the "free bitcoins" are worth when you later try and send them somewhere.

Could it be that my wallet is still syncing with the network?

No and all the comments about resyncing, copying wallet files and other nonsense are off the mark.  An address is valid or it isn't. It has nothing to do with the blockchain.  You could compute and address by hand using pen and paper and it is valid or it isn't.
