Bitcoins has regained its strong value, As of this posting, the value per 1 bitcoin is exactly 4786.59 US Dollar.   Soon we will see more ways people can squeeze the most out of bitcoins.   Since the advent of the internet to be profit oriented in the 90's, no one would possibly have imagined that the Internet would breed Facebook, Google, Uber, online streaming, etc. This is where we are with the Blockchain now. There exists a whole world of opportunities out there.

These opportunities have the unrighteous users of this cryptocurrencies to also used its advantage. We cannot deny for a fact that cyber crimes have been committed since the birth of the internet.  Once, stealing was done with having guns, now, robbers can easily hack bank accounts or counterfeit credit cards to their advantage.  Sooner, cryptocurrencies can be used to pay crimes such as services for creating counterfeit birth certificates and this is not far from happening.  Actually, the US has already cases on this matter.

Another is the crime of buying illegal-drug emporium that used Bitcoin as a medium of exchange, politicians and policymakers took notice. Criminals, it turns out, really like bitcoins, which can be exchanged for nefarious purposes on the "Dark Web," with complete anonymity and, it seems, impunity.

Although, there are some articles that i have read regarding criminals cannot hide behind bitcoins, still, there are difficulties tracing transactions using cryptocurrencies. That is why law enforcement agencies should have a to change their procedures to pursue criminals who make use of the latest technology to commit crimes. Let the law find a way to evolve to address new tech challenges. There is no reason to expect that law enforcement won’t be able to get a handle on this new cybercrime.
That is true! Bitcoin is a money and bitcoin can use in different crimes. That's why many governments are disagree to legalize the bitcoin in many countries.

Bitcoin is a very attractive eye candy for all the cyber criminals for sure . Its decentralized nature is like a cherry on top of cake for them . There anonymous property of the cryptocurrency helps criminals to do all the hacking and crimes without the fear of getting caught. All this is highly affecting the image of bitcoin which is one of the main reason why still so many countries are still not ready to accept bitcoins.

The government still thinks a lot about bitcoin because whether bitcoin will make a bad or good impact for others for them. Wink

One of the causes is that bitcoin transaction can not be tracked where and where the bitcoin is flowing and used for what, so it can be very supportive of criminal acts such as money laundering, drug trafficking, illegal weapons, etc., maybe this can be cope with the making of regulations on bitcoin transactions by governments internationally.

You know just very recently there was a thread here where a guy mentioned how he used bitcoins to buy weed, preety much I was shocked that people are using a positive feature in a bad way.
He said he brought weed using bitcoins since its very safe and there isn't anything that anyone can do , they can't trace you, they can't catch you and track you down.

Also all these reasons are the contributing factors due to which now a days many governments are thinking of banning bitcoins.
Yes you have your privacy, you can't be traced thus use it in a positive way rather than negative, even recently one government said they are going to track down all the bitcoin transactions, well actions are taken to curb all these menace that some people are creating.
I don't think one should soil the name of bitcoins because it will have a negative effect on the whole bitcoin community.

Bitcoin has the same purpose with money. Anything that money does, bitcoin can also do. It's not shocking anymore that bitcoin will be used in illegal matters. And also Bitcoin is more convenient is this type of transaction since one's identity can hardly be traced.

Yes, many people in the world use bitcoin for crime. As we can see on dark web there is sale of almost every illegal product and services with the help of bitcoin. Bitcoin is also  considered as a hackers currency as it is mostly used for anonymous way of transfering money. But now i think people are changing there view towards bitcoin and using it in proper way.

As long as you can use it in buying and has a value, there is always a chance that it will be used in crimes. See money. Money is used now to buy illegal drugs not only illegal drugs but many crimes. Bitcoin was used too since it has value and you can buy with bitcoin. Bitcoin is used now in crimes and since its too hard to track the transaction, its hard to track too whose behind the crimes.

This isn't something that should amuse us, since crimes started long long ago. We can't expect crypto world to stain clean and everyone to think of your well being. There are enough ways to secure your investments and earnings, just don't go away with the panic and scarcity.
I think it’s not a mistake of bitcoin people are using other currencies also for crime so if they are using bitcoin they should not supposed to do so because bitcoin is such currency which provide a god source of income to needy people and if we study about bitcoin so you will learn good things about bitcoin it’s not going to teach you crime or bad things.

Perhaps I haven't made it clear enough. When you're buying from an exchange or a person IRL you're leaving a trail from a source. This means that BTC can be traced back to a registered (live) entity and that entity can be asked who they sold it to. In case of a real person it will be your description and in case of an exchange your registration details.
If you're mining it can be traced to a pool, but all they can get is an IP address.
They can also see the destination, but it should be easy to hide as long as they don't use an exchange and spend the coins.

You can hide the IP using a VPN or TOR browser. But sooner or later, you are going to sell your BTC for cash and right now there are no 100% anonymous methods for doing this. Either you are going to withdraw the cash from your bank account or you are going to purchase something from the dark markets. Both the steps are risky.

Agree. But there are a lot of little risky ways to convert BTC for cash. Low risky for the anonymity, but not for losing your money=)

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody

It CAN be traced unless you mined it yourself. You have to register on an exchange or meet up with someone to buy it!
it doesnt matter who mined it, weather it be some middle school student that just discovered bitcoin, a major pool, or yourself. regardless of who actually finds the block, your transaction's hash is still public on the blockchain for everyone to see, as well as the source and destination addresses of the funds. don't know where you got that idea though.

It's true that there is a way to use cryptocurrency for crime, for its anonimus characteristics. But like in other technologies advances, we need have to be some rules about it. I agree with you about, lawmakers should be attending even more attention to this. If you just ignore it, it doesn't mean that it won't exist no more, or that it won't increase. We should accept the challenges and be ready for them.

All currency is used to crime. It is wrong to just say that bitcoin is used to commit crime. Other currencies such as used in a lot of good work, So bitcoin is used in a lot of good work. All yours you will use bitcoin for the work that you use. Good and bad aspects of everything come in the way that it uses. It is just wrong that bitcoin is used to crime now.
