I dont think thats a good idea. Primary currency? You mean national currency? Bitcoin as a primary currency is a bad idea. It could be a disaster in their economy. Imagine how bad their economy is, if they do that. We know bitcoin could easily crash. So to think that they use it as their primary currency, very bad idea. Its not stable.

Do not take the news seriously. It is kind of a joke. Remember Liberland? It is almost the same thing as that. I believe it might be one weird individual lobbying to make Bitcoin the primary currency for their city. I suspect he is holding a lot of coins. Grin

City Liberstad in norway has decided to use bitcoin as primary currency. They have said they would accept bitcoin for land sold in presale. They have even planned to give discounts to customers who pay in bitcoins for their services. It seems bitcoin moving towards its golden era of recognition.
sound great, according news.Bitcoin article they had two payment methods which Bitcoin and their own currencies, so I wonder City Liberstad is the first City/Country which accepting bitcoin as payment, personally I doubt that will be succesfull

hopefully this into something good for the development of bitcoin in the present and future
perhaps with the endorsement of governments to give legal force to this bitcoin will definitely make bitcoin as a second currency after the real currency

It is these kinds of comments that deserved to be ignored in this forum. The news is a welcome one but it is very far from bringing the golden era of recognition. That city is not even known around the world. What they are trying to do over there is trying to bring some recognition for the city by accepting Bitcoin.

This is a pretty good progress for bitcoin as countries started noticing it's value as a real money even though i thought that the whole city of norway  started accepting it but overall it's great for bitcoin. It is only a matter of time until bitcoin is used globally.
Now all we need to do is solve the bitcoin scaling problem for bitcoin to continue innovating in many years to come that's if the community could unite and make a decision whether to have a fork or chose between BU or core devs.

This is a great news indeed but this does not cover all of norway and definitely not a primary currency.  They are just accepting it just like online stores.  It thought some government had accepted Bitcoin as their primary currency.  Title seems misleading but well this is a good news.  More merchant for Bitcoin means more support to the currency.

Without solving the block size problem  is possible?  Huh

Don't worry about this because these transactions are very high (by volume) and are very rare to happen because of the overall value that is being transferred.

When the give discounts then bitcoin in this way gets more popular and I like their idea, but if they are selling lands then we should think that these are big money which is hard to purchase bitcoin directly and without any high fee and by providing different verification (providing documents... to exchanges) and then to purchase with these bitcoin the land.

I think this is impressive, if our respective cities all over the world start adopting Bitcoin one after the other I think it will globalize Bitcoin usage and worldwide adoption of this coin would be realized in no time. I commend what's happening in Norway and we hope to see more cities replicate that in the near future.

How would they know if the money is clear or dirty? Aren't they gonna ask the source of the money? A drug dealer can easily come up with a story like "i bought it when costed dust and now im rich dawg"

Seems messy. Still a good step in the right direction.

wow, that's huge and worthy of commendation: they are following the footsteps of Arnhem Bitcoinstad- the Bitcoin city in the Netherlands. I think we need to see more of this where individual cities will start integrating Bitcoin into their payment systems.

Always good news for bitcoin from Norway. If this is really happening then this will be great experiment, we will see from them how bitcoin can improve current economy in little town. Isn't more logical for them to make their own coin to mine that coin or make some other way of distribution? In that way they will not have any problems with splitting, they can run the coin like they wish too.

Without solving the block size problem  is possible?  Huh

first of all, what problem? lol
you mean the spam attack that has been ended for a while? or the fact that fees went up?

second of all if we assume there is a problem with "block size" it doesn't matter when you buy land. you pay $1 fee for a $50,000 (or whatever the cost is in USD) transaction for example. do you see a problem here?

no he mean the scalability issue that is affecting bitcoin, or maybe you think that paying 50ks atoshi per transaction it's fine lol, it's a run to who pay more now, and who pay more get his tx prioritized, this is not good for bitcoin as a currency, if many other people start to use it like these liberland city, more unconfirmed transaction will get stuck, and this is not related to spam attack

This seems to be a good news for all the bitcoin users around the world. In the past liberland is the one which has accepted bitcoin as their major currency with primary acceptance. Now a name getting closer to it adopting bitcoin as primary currency as well accepting into property business is an added beauty. Because realtors is an huge money circulation business.

Sounds good but is it realy possible? Maybe as equaly currency to fiat, that sounds feasible but Bitcoin as primary currency seems a bit like science fiction to me. Anyway, for final attitude about this more relevant information are needed although Norway is very progressive and open minded state so everything is possible.

Amidst of all the chaos and uncertainty that happened in BTC these past days, this certain news somehow provided fresh outlook for the said cryptocurrency.  It would be very interesting if you could provide additional information about this. This is the first that I've heard about buying real estate using BTC. Hopefully, more of this deals will happen in the future.

This thing requires a bit more nuance..

It is not an official Norwegian city or project. It is a private project where a company wants to start a city on current farming land. They want to encourage everybody to use bitcoin as primary currency.

It is definately not for everybody, even though the land price is very cheap (4 usd for a sqaure meter).

I was actually looking for a source of the information before you came with this and I can say its been helpful. Although, I am happy that things are gradually moving in the right direction for bitcoin but the issue is concerning the city if the central government of federal government as the case may be will allow such. Over here., issue relating to currency are exclusively left to the federal government to decide and not the federating units whatsoever.
