Latest version on bitcoin.org now is 0.17.0.1 but I have seen no announcement of that here. The signatures seem OK from first glance, upgrading now...

Releases like 0.17.0.x are just packaging respins, so they don't get announcements.  Basically nothing was changed in it but something about the OSX installer.

However, 0.17.1 is done now-- and tagged in git for over a day-- holiday travel is just delaying getting the binaries up, which is why it hasn't been announced yet. They should be up by christmas however!

hey guys, what about the older versions? can i still use them?
Yeah same here. Can I?

If you're asking whether they're working then yes, you can still use them but that doesn't mean you should do it. It makes no sense to stick to an older version when it has issues.

I would not recommend running the following versions of Bitcoin Core because they contain a major bug.

0.14.0
0.14.1
0.14.2
0.15.0
0.15.0.01
0.15.1
0.16.0
0.16.1
0.16.2

The bug was fixed in 0.14.3, 0.15.2, & 0.16.3.

You can read more about the serious bug, here. https://bitcoincore.org/en/2018/09/20/notice/
If you are using another wallet besides Bitcoin core, you may want to make sure you are not running a version with the vulnerability. Since the pools and miners are now running nodes that are corrected, any malicious miner running the vulnerable software is likely to have the blocks orphaned quickly. However, your node could be fooled for a short period of time if you are running the vulnerable software.

I can not using latest version. Can you guide me?

What is the problem?

Try deleting the entire /Bitcoin folder but first make a backup of your wallet.dat and also save the files on the "blocks" folder so you don't have to download everything from scratch. But before doing this, first uninstall it as you would uninstall any other thing in Windows. Then on %appdata% data folder, find Bitcoin, do the backups and delete the folder, then install 0.17.0 and check that the SHA256 checksum matches with the one on the site:

https://bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.17.0.1/SHA256SUMS.asc

Open this on a text editor and check the installer .exe file with 7zip for the SH256 hash which you can find on the windows menu when you install 7zip. This guarantees that you are installing a legit file.

Can I use Old versions as well ? The latests is the best ?
same question, good for use old version? The latests is the best ?

I think it depends on what version exactly, i believe some older versions were/are not directly impacted by this vulnerability,  that said, it's never a smart idea to run w/ old software implentations.

So, yes using the last version is Definitely preferred.

Have Issue with this v17 version now, The private key generated from wallet console cannot be used or invalid when I test. OR have any new code for generating the private key for this version.
The private key cannot be used for what exactly? Generating an adress? That sounds.. Anomalous?

I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved in Bitcoin Core V0.17 development ....

very fast, only after 55 hours have downloaded more than 70% of the blocks, before this I had to wait up to 3 weeks to complete.

Its that last 30% that takes the most time. The early blocks go fast.

DONE, Downloading time 70 hours 20 minutes with 545354 Blocks downloaded and 201 GB file size. This Core V17 more time saving than the v15.1 version I used before, where the time taken is 500 hours with only 120 GB file size.

THANK YOU BITCOIN TEAM BTCBTCBTCBTCBTC

I'm shy to run Core now.

If you will remember achow, I downloaded 0.16 to my USB drive which took a couple of days and ran it for several days with no issues until I accidentally unplugged the drive. Try as I might I could not get Core to reload on that drive even after days of trying.

So I started a new instance of 16 on one of my boxes which has a couple of Terragig drives and after a week it would not complete the download so I quit. Then I got a warning notice from my ISP that I had exceeded my bandwidth allotment (300 gigs) and sure enough that failed download shot my usage to 400 gigs for the month. I'm not sure why it failed or used that much bandwidth but I'm shy to try again at this time.

Huge, huge thanks to all the contributors to this version. Absolutely massive change log and it wouldn't be possible to keep Bitcoin up to speed without the help of our fantastic community.
