Worst case scenario will be Bitcoin vs Ripple (decentralized vs centralized) but i still believe in bitcoin that it will still hold its position as the number 1 coin that it being used by the people, as far as the future is concern we cant say that bitcoin will still be the top performer but hopefully it still is.
The market cap of a crypto doesn't mean much, and I'm glad that there are some people that are starting to catch on to this fact. Even if Bitcoin does get passed by a coin like Ripple it doesn't matter much because Ripple already has banks backing it (so such increases in value are to be expected in most cases) and if it's not being used by people it's merely a speculative tool, not a real currency per se. Bitcoin still has yet to be properly challenged by something that does not have a multitude of organizations and institutions supporting it.

I don't think so because the Cryptocurrency market has a really small population and the buyers of Bitcoin also buys Altcoin including Ripple. And now that we are seeing Bitcoin in consolidation traders are now shifting their money elsewhere making Bitcoin hard to move. Right now Ripple had timed it with some hype and a very good looking chart it has risen so much that it has beaten Ethereum in terms of market cap.

The recent rise of the Ripple with its sudden and tremendous growth made some to think that maybe soon Bitcoin can be replaced form its number one position and be replaced by its centralized rival. Though I doubt if Ripple can really make it, if it can continue to rise and if Bitcoin will retreat further then it is quite possible. I might be sad if this can happen practically because i already sold my Ripple months ago and was not able to be a part of its bull run.

Now, in case this thing will happen, how will Bitcoin be affected and the whole cryptocurrency market? Will it be Bitcoin versus Ripple this time after the recent Bitcoin versus BitcoinCash?

There's no way that Ripple will take bitcoin over. In fact, I think that ripple will be facing a strong set of losses soon. People don't realize that it's centralized and that there's a guy controlling the entire coin. It's not really a cryptocurrency in that sense. In the case that Ripple actually does go past Bitcoin, I don't think it'll last that long. If anything, that means that the altcoins would have risen to a point that a better coin like ethereum or of the like would take bitcoin's place.

Totally agree on this one. Ripple being a centralized crypto is the sole purpose I never bought any amount of that coin. Being a cryptocurrency enthusiasts, we should all avoid anything that makes it less of a cryptocurrency. And yes, there will be major losses sooner than we expect in xrp since it is, in my opinion, being manipulated on a high level.

How can you expect a centralized coin will beat the king of crypto currency?

The current run of ripple will come to an end so if you have ripple sell soon to make profits, currently the bitcoin price started to increase and it will continue to rise in the coming days also.

I have always liked XRP and see its potential to become one of the best coins. However, like many other have said, it is pretty likely that XRP won't stay around the top for too long due to its centralized system, which essentially make XRP like a fiat and the price of it will start stablising when it is being widely used.

I hope not since I don't have Ripple cryptocurrency.  But as we can see, the Bitcoin marketcap still way high than the Ripple marketcap.  Maybe someday it will be dethroned once the Ripple cap made more than the Bitcoin.  So, let's wait and see how it will turn out to be.

I don't get why people are freaking out over Ripple just because it surpassed Ethereum. It's still ways away from Bitcoin, and its centralization makes it fundamentally different from Bitcoin. They're both digital currencies, but they couldn't be more different. I mean, I guess how it could be perceived as a threat in the short term, because it's fast and scalable, but its centralization is its downfall. Once Bitcoin closes the gap in speed and scalability, which it will, I'm guessing Ripple will be obsolete. Either way, I don't even consider it cryptocurrency -- my personal definition requires decentralization.

I agree, it's a payment railing system it's not a cryptocurrency. Hard to see it as a serious competitor to bitcoin

Ripple is a nightmare waiting to happen. All centralized entities are corruptable and Ripple will follow the same path. If you Bank on a centralized technology, then you are betting on the wrong horse. That race is rigged and controlled by Banks and you will lose money in the future.

Never trust centralized services and/or technologies, because they are destined to fail in the future.

Honestly, Cryptocurrency Community's trust on Bitcoin is unbeatable, It will take some big movements and a lot of time before Bitcoin to be dethroned. Bitcoin's reputation is also high that it almost took a lot of years and a lot of challenges from the Government as well as the FUDS from the non-believers up until now, but look, Bitcoin is still here. Let's say that there is a probability that Ripple could overtake Bitcoin's throne one day,but don't you try to look back on how Bitcoin Cash tried to dethrone Bitcoin? Given the people behind it and the BCH cult who tried to manipulate the Bitcoin Community, Still no luck from BCH. Given this scenario, In my opinion, It is still impossible to dethrone Bitcoin.

Congrats to Ripple! I think ripple is the first altcoin that surpass bitcoin and will lead to top. It will remarks in history if that will happen.
Ripple has the potential to move forward but it is hard for the ripple to become top 1 in a long time, due to its centralized system. I think 2018 will be the great year for bitcoin and ethereum, ripple may fade away because of its issue.
Bitcoin will always be my Top 1 when it comes in cryptocurrency.

No one is mentioning that ripple is being accepted widely by banks as a payment method (for whatever reason I don't know).
nobody mentions it because they are not accepting bitcoin "widely".
there are some banks behind the project that "Created" ripple so obviously some of them may accept it. but it is worth mentioning that at least 2 of the already left ripple and started their own version of it and stopped being involved with it in any form.

All what you said is true, it is centralized, it is not anonymous nor private among other disadvantages.
these are not small disadvantages! these are the basics of any cryptocurrency.

Unfortunately people are ignorant to what makes a really good coin.
something with this many HUGE disadvantages will never go anywhere.

I say it has an equal chance to takeover bitcoin as much as it can fail.
you just say this because you have bought a lot of it and want to become rich. and there is nothing wrong with getting rich from altcoin pumps but spreading wrong information to fool others into possibly buying the bubble and losing money is not right.

No one is mentioning that ripple is being accepted widely by banks as a payment method (for whatever reason I don't know). All what you said is true, it is centralized, it is not anonymous nor private among other disadvantages. Most were already fooled by a simple ad marketing campaign in Korea and the rest of the world followed.

Unfortunately people are ignorant to what makes a really good coin. I say it has an equal chance to takeover bitcoin as much as it can fail. If marketing can still fool people, and more banks accept it, then it will. Only when the next big hack happens then, hopefully it'll change the public perception for good. Anonymous, private, decentralized and open-sourced currency is the future.

In any case, what is happening now in the crypto currency market is very bad. A centralized coin such as ripple can not be so close to the top position of capitalization, otherwise the decentralization of the crypto currency will soon come to an end. Although at a price it can not be compared with other old coins, however, the capitalization of ripple is frightening. The coin itself is good and quite useful for the banking sector, however it is centralized and its quantity is printed at the discretion of certain individuals. This contradicts the basic principles of the existence of a decentralized crypto currency.

Congrats on getting legendary, sucka!

I don't care what the market cap data says, or anything else.  Bitcoin is still on top, by a huge margin and that has everything to do with its community.  Yes, other coins have shot into the stratosphere in 2017, but bitcoin is where it's at, and only bitcoin.  Well, maybe a little ethereum too, because that coin gets mentioned in the MSM--but mostly bitcoin.  All the shitcoin fanboys can STFU.  When CNN mentions crypto, it's always bitcoin.  When Peter Thiel buys crypto, it's bitcoin.  When W. Buffett slams crypto, it's bitcoin.  Get my drift?

I saw some critics that Ripple had issue in centralization and I think in the future, that will be the problem of Ripple. Though it surpass ethereum as the second place in top cryptocurrency and its market cap is the most largest altcoin now. Ripple can never be dethroned bitcoin. However, if the ripple continuously grows up then there will be a possibilty to overtake bitcoin. For me, if Ripple will just make a short time if it becomes the first cryptocurrency.

one thing that some people still don't realize is that Ripple's market cap is growing not Ripple itself. all these years there has been zero adoption of it apart from traders buying them on exchanges, keeping it there to dump as fast as possible.
nobody trusts a centralized coin where the owner can put his hand in your pocket and steal your money. if we wanted to use centralized money we would have stuck to Visa and the similar ones.

as for market cap, there is a good chance that Ripple is going to release another 1-10 billion coins soon which will increase its market cap another 26 billion or so. and in order to have bitcoin's market cap Ripple only has to pump to $5-$6 but still it is going to remain a centralized shitcoin.
