As a side note... why take all the effort to set up a vpn and search from there? Don't private/incognito tabs provide the same level of... lack of previous search and patterns for this situation?
Private browsing does not function as a VPN and does. It doesn't offer the same level of privacy, so one cannot be used interchangeably with the other.
• Incognito mode means your browsing history is not stores on the browser and as such no one who picks up your phone or has access to your laptop can check what you were checking out while browsing privately, this becomes useful if you are not using an entirely private device,
It does not hide your IP address and does not disrupt the communication with your ISP.

• VPNs function to obfuscate your browsing history from virtually everyone (except maybe themselves as some have been said to keep user logs). Using a VPN, even your internet service provider can not access your browsing activities and your IP address cannot be ascertained, even by your browser.

Looks like the perfect excuse to bring this thread back: search engine optimization for local boards

Google search engine has been programmed in a way that it looks out and presents keywords commonly used within a region or zone which validates a nation specific orientation about a keyword. Though, i really think it doesn't matter much as to where it presents itself on the Google search engine result page.

I suppose a few individuals might see that to be due to the FUD that is promoted by various antibitcoins but, its mode about frequently searched for and relatively used terms alongside where its found or referenced.

It's an awesome technology for sure, it helps me to locate even forgotten phrases in some thread on the forum too.

To be fair, are there any general web search engine which have better search result than google?

In the summer of 2021 Google had issues. And not only with Bitcointalk. At that point it was bad. It was so bad as DuckDuckGo was needed to fill the gaps.
Now it's better, but I don't know if it's "fully recovered".

So for your question... I could say that the answer is not absolute. Probably it's again a "no", but that's for the moment (I don't know what will they do in a hour or a year) and also the gap is not longer as big as in the past (still I would be more comfortable if it would be even smaller than it is).

Try it from a non-english speaking country’s perspective, and you’ll be dazzled on how far you have to dig to find a bitcointalk entry within the search results. I tried a few different search patterns with the vpn set to Spain:

Search pattern 1: "bitcoin discusión" -> Entry on 6th position, pointing to a 2014 post.
Search pattern 2: "bitcoin España" -> Entry on 55th position (2018 post).
Search pattern 3: "bitcoin información" -> No entry on first 10 pages (didn´t go beyond)
Search pattern 4: "bitcoin" -> No entry on first 10 pages (didn´t go beyond)
Search pattern 5: "bitcoin foro" -> No entry on first 10 pages (didn´t go beyond)
Search pattern 6: bitcoin foro -> (no quotes) first bitcointalk entry on position 18 (Index).

Trying out the first 5 queries without quotes rendered no Bitcointalk results within the first 10 pages.

Now as mentioned before, Google’s ranking algorithm has multiple variables and is, for the most, a well kept secret. It does vary depending on your geographical position, language, historical search habits (so the using the vpn takes into account habits which are not mine per se) and so forth, so a degree of position variance is expected from one person to another.

For me Bitcointalk.org comes just 4th in Google search results - first comes Yahoo.com page with BTC-USD conversation, then Stockwits.com (wtf is that, never hear about them before) and Investing.com Bitcoin chat.I see such things for a while, maybe half year or longer. For a while even Bitcoin.com was shown above.
And when I enter Bitcoin Discussion in Google search, I don't get link to this board, there is just link to Bitcointalk.org home apge. So, it's really interesting how Google search algorhitms works.

If something hasn't changed, and if I'm not mistaken about your location - isn't the forum blocked in your country (Ru), and it is only possible to access it with VPN and maybe Tor?
Soomehow I missed these news and seems that ban happened in 2020. Interesting, is it still banned? How do people access forum? Is it enough to change DNS, or things like VPN is needed?

And DuckDuckGo is not actually better - it made me miss other results.

You might want to check StartPage which bought search result from Google Search.

Then I guess that I should not expect them be better than Google Smiley, still, may give it a try, thanks for the idea.

I doubt theymos (or other member) bother use google ads to boost traffic of this forum.
Precisely; I meant that he had to check whether the first results that were showing up were ads, rather than organic results

Idk why I'm making this post but few months ago when I used to search 'Bitcoin discussion' in Google search - the first search would be this forum's 'Bitcoin discussion'. Now, it's 6-7th place.

Yes that was post, what's your opinion about this? Lol
For me its showing as the 5th result including to sponsored ads while searching with the Google Chrome browser. And the same list while trying on the different browsers but when I tried different search engines the results were different and search engine with no ads showed it in the first or second. Probably the traffic can be the reason and we all know who gives money to ads will get the first spot and follows depends on the appropriate keywords used.

For me it's 4th, but since the problems Google search had with Bitcointalk in May, I've got disappointed by Google. And DuckDuckGo is not actually better - it made me miss other results.

Lately if I want to search something related to Bitcointalk I just use https://ninjastic.space/search
It works best.

According to the keywords "bitcoin discussion", the BA board is displayed in the fourth place to me, regardless of the fact that uBlock Origin is enabled. There are no sponsored links for these words for my location.

Anyway I'm not too worried about that because I think it will depend a lot on the search habit we do, maybe the country too. On the one hand I don't know if the shift will hurt bitcointalk or not, but what is clear is that the rankings will definitely continue to change every year affected by SEO. I use Google, bitcoin discussion rank 5th on my search engine although I'm not worried about this.

Google changes their search results algorithm a good amount of times per year, and these algorithm updates can definitely improve/harm Bitcointalk or any website's page ranking. Sudden shifts like this are somewhat to be expected in the Search Engine Optimization(SEO) industry.

But if you use the search engine boardreader.com, then this forum will be the first on all issues related to bitcoin. The search engine searches for information on various forums, sometimes it is very useful, as you can find any expression you remember, but forget where you read it.

Google results depends on different aspects including country, search history, visited websites, and etc..

Searching such keyword on my side, that specific board shows in the second page in serp (unfortunately) while bitcointalk home page shows 10th in first page.

I have ads disabled, regarding ddg you are right, it's on 3rd place for me too. I guess, Google shows results according to country.
