Well, the value of bitcoin that time (2011) were lesser value compare today. Faucets were popular way back then and many were really having a good income just by claiming faucets. Those who have many time claiming and clicking those faucets before really earning a good money. Now, there are still few faucets that are paying. But I dont think it is worth your time as there are many earning sites other than faucets.

Well, that's something not to regret about.
Because first, nobody knows how Bitcoin would become in the future. Probably majority of the people doesn't heard about Bitcoin during those times.
Second, no one would probably waste their time visiting some random website in exchange of something they haven't heard before or has almost no value at all.
Same case for the shitcoin today. Most of us won't probably waste our precious time following those shitcoin faucets.

We're just here in awe of how far Bitcoin have come in it's more than 10 years of existence.

Damn almost 6000 Bitcoin available for faucet? and giving away 0.001 bitcoin per visitors?

This is the reason why i wanted to create a time machine so i can return to those time when bitcoin was being denied nor trusted by people.

Not 6000 bitcoins but 5.680 BTC.

That amount of bitcoin on 2011 was still not that much but it's already a good way to have the people visit to your faucet and take as much as ads on your faucet.

Imagine how much that giveaway in today's time but most likely all of those were already spent.

I completely agree to that however It's crazy looking at the past that some clicks per day could have got you millions if you kept doing it for a month or so. Smiley
When I started on bitcoin, it was with bitcoin faucets only. At that time faucethub was the biggest micropayment processor which used to give payouts accumulated over different faucets on a specific wallet address and freebitco.in was the faucet running for the oldest period of time.

Of course, when you give out free money you get a lot of abusers. People started writing bots to spam these sites and what was once an easy method to get some quick dust became a tough thing to claim because you had to click on all these anti-spam measures to prove you are not a bot. Tongue

I had once been able to get around a thousand referrals on one faucet and managed to earn close to 0.02 BTC everyday from those referrals, I didnt even need to do any claims myself. Sadly that faucet shut down pretty quickly after that. Grin

Then came the Google Adsense ban on faucets and the dispense amounts drastically reduced over all these sites.

Yea, keyword here being "could". Even if you managed to collect 100 bitcoin using that site back then, who's to say that you wouldn't sell at a drastically lower price(compared to today's price)? Knowing that bitcoin had a lot of boom and bust cycles back then. Hindsight is 20/20. Tongue

"Faucet farming" has been a complete waste of time from the first day it was created until today even if it were paying 5BTC per claim. The reason is very simple, you can always earn more by spending your time more constructively. For example you could have mined a single block and received 50BTC instead of 5!

I wouldn't really call it a waste of time. if you have a network of active referrals doing the work, it's free money.

If the withdraw threshold is too high, convert the balance into advertising credits. Promote your website/ affiliate links and get referrals in the process. Use money to make money.

Hey, Just saw this video on YouTube where there was a website that used to give out 0.001BTC just for visiting the website.
It's crazy, today that amount is worth 32.89$.

It's interesting how the recent decade feels both old and new at the same time. With Bitcoin, recent years seem so old already. What we used to treat as insignificant is now very much valuable. Just years ago 0.001BTC, 0.005BTC, or even 5BTC was just freely given away as if they're not that precious at all. Today, we're chasing after sats.

It makes me realize those free faucets that are discouraged from us today for being so insignificantly small, a waste of time, etc could actually become a considerable amount in the years to come. Just like the old times when 1BTC was of no worth.

Just think, the few satoshis per click you get now might be worth $10 or more in the future.

What a beautiful bygone days that won't come back again, personally I've been working on faucet sites since 2013 when they used to give 1000-10000 satoshi every 15 minutes or an hour, I got a lot of these sites but their value was very low so unfortunately I didn't keep For a long time, I did not expect the price of Bitcoin to reach such large numbers.
Faucet sites are a waste of time as they were in the past, but no one knows, maybe after ten years the same scenario will repeat and those who missed the opportunity to get these free satoshis regret it.

No, if you watch the video, it was coming from on this site "https://freebitcoins.appspot.com" which is now I can't open the site.
I'm not sure what are you even talking about. But If you open the thread, the URL is exactly the same as on the video and as you stated. As far as I know, the faucet was closed in early 2011.

Oh, that's it, it means you will get 5 Bitcoin?  I can't imagine if there are generous people who are willing to run a Bitcoin faucet and give that big amount.  But AFAIK, there are still websites that still running a Bitcoin faucet.  Freebitco.in still giving free sats per hour.
I didn't say and I didn't mean somebody gonna run a 5BTC faucets. The picture from OP is referring to Gavin's faucet back in the early days.

Its just email snipping/accumulation
Its just hooking up for some clicks

No one would give out 30 bucks simply on visiting or making some simple sign up.Of course there would be always a catch whenever you do see a good offer.
I havent seen on last year or even this year about faucet sites.I dont know if there are site owners which would really be that thinking on wasting up
their precious bitcoins and also if there are some legit ones then they would just give out cents amount per claim or click or something like that.

I think the date of this faucet is from 2011 or 2012 or something that the price of 1 Bitcoin is equal to $1 only or something. OP just compared that price today so it doesn't mean that's the price it's given. Anyway, faucet nowadays is taking too much time to make a decent amount of money and is time consuming so it's not really advisable to enter faucet not unless you have a lot of free time but I have a doubt you will last collecting tiny amount of Bitcoin. It's not worth the hassle, better trade or invest than do this.

The comment above was right, the first Bitcoin faucet was named, "The Bitcoin Faucet" and that was developed by Gavin Andresen.  I don't know how exactly the amount he gives but that is a whole number of Bitcoin.
Get 5 free bitcoins from freebitcoins.appspot.com. That is the thread in which was Gavin Andresen announces the first-ever Bitcoin faucet. Though I don't sure he named the faucet as "The Bitcoin Faucet".

I'm sure the picture that the OP posted is Gavin's faucets since the URL is exactly the same.

Seeing those large amounts, how I wish I discovered Bitcoin that year, but unfortunately, I discovered it in the year 2017.

There were faucets in the early days that were giving much higher amounts, I think Gavin Andersen had a faucet that was giving 5 Bitcoins, and someone made a bot to spam it. I personally claimed 0.005 BTC from a faucet once, this was in 2012, but unfortunately for me I brushed it off and later lost these coins by depositing them to exchange which later did an exit scam. IMO faucets were never worth the time you spend on them, instead of claiming 0.005 BTC 100 times you could have just bot a few dozens of Bitcoin with your pocket money.

None could've thought of such a growth and transition will happen with bitcoin. Very few early adopters kept hold of the Bitcoins knowing its value for the future, whereas majority had done it out of luck and by situation. We can just make calculations looking the past, and nothing is gonna happen again as the past. Maybe investing on some small coins could lead to big change, but nothing as bitcoin.

It's sort of too good to be true reward for such faucets if it's for today. We all knew how much faucets are giving nowadays and with a higher price of bitcoin than the past years, 0.001BTC today sure is quite big already. But those days were gone now, someone who claims with faucets are going to get lesser these days because of the price increase of bitcoin.

It's possible because back then that is a very small amount if you will be compared to the dollar.

The Bitcoin faucet before is really worth it because you can possibly get a large amount compared today because the value is very cheap.  But now, probably it will also worth it if we are in another 10 years of existence of Bitcoin but for now, is just wasting time for us.

How about a pizza guy that bought Pizza using Bitcoin?  That's a huge amount too, just because before the value of Bitcoin is very cheap.

According to investopedia, The bitcoin price was around $1, and then it peaked around $32 before dropping back to $2

So at that time I think many people thought that 0.001 BTC wasn't worth the hassle even at its peak price of $32. That was just $0.032 and also the fact that Bitcoin was something new. Not so many people thought it would be a huge success.
