The second largest cryptocurrency coin is Ethereum, or Ether.  The thing about Ethereum versus Bitcoin is that they are two totally different things, or totally different coins.  That's one of the things that personally attracted me to Ethereum from the beginning is that it's not supposed to do the same things that bitcoin is.  I think you'd have to look at whatever coin is next on the list that follows the outline that bitcoin does.

I can't see bitcoin every falling below any other coin, personally.

This is not the first time people are saying things like this, I have seen it being said so many times and there have been times people said that ETH was going to overtake Bitcoin that year, but it never happened. Don't be fast to believe whatever anyone is saying on the Internet please.

Just like Solana folks saying that SOL will overcome ETH in the future. They really don't know what they're saying. No copycat project can beat the original one. Besides, Solana is more centralized than Ethereum.

On the flip side, Ethereum is more centralized than Bitcoin. Stakers (validators) and Vitalik Buterin himself are the ones behind the chain. It's why Michael Saylor and even SEC chairman Gary Gensler think ETH is a security (although Gary stepped back after pressure from giants like BlackRock and VanEck). Bitcoin is and will always be the #1 cryptocurrency in the world. Period. ETH fanboys are being too optimistic. Don't be surprised if ETH is still the second-largest crypto by market cap in the future. At least, ETH's position as "King of Altcoins" will remain unchanged. Cheesy

Yeah, and they said the same for so many altcoins, not just ethereum, they called many of them 'the next BTC,' but it is funny how none of them ever became as useful as BTC. Altcoins are mainly used as trading tools, and because people are gambling on it, does not mean people are shifting their attention from BTC to altcoins, and i believe whoever wrote the article op's talking about is just spreading fud and nothing else.

You have shared an interesting topic for discussion. It is true that the growth of the Ethereum coin and the peoples interest in it are gaining day by day. But I think Bitcoins future is bright too.
I believe both Bitcoin and Ethereum's future will be bright. Still, whenever a certain altcoin is gaining interest day by day then you should panic about the sudden volatility that will occur because most investors go for altcoin and later divert their profit into BTC.
Another thing is the Ethereum spot ETF that was approved which will lead to the manipulation in price of ETH soon.

The bitcoin price is likely to gain momentum in the next bull run. And if the price of Bitcoin increases a lot, peoples interest in it will increase.
You have a point but only naive cryptocurrency investors won't have his/her interest increase on Bitcoin now due to the rapid selling caused by the German government, and Mt. Gox victim's distribution because when the market is in the panic stage is the best time to ape in.

the gap between bitcoin and ethereum is not that close to the point that you should worry about ethereum overtaking bitcoin even with the approval of etf it will still remain the same as it is
It will take Ethereum a life time to even come close to Bitcoin in capitalization. It's far away from Bitcoin in capitalization by more than 1/4th which's not a small gap. When it will reach Bitcoin's current market cap then Bitcoin will still be higher in capitalization because by then Bitcoin may be more than 3T market cap coin.

ETH? Really? A coin that was supposed to flip bitcoin years ago. A coin that is constantly being used to finance other projects and healthy lifestyles of Vitalik and Lubin...
There's no chance ETH will ever flip BTC and there's no chance a PoS coin will be bigger than Bitcoin. Especially a PoS coin that has living founders and technically passes the Howey test.

Its ETF will also end up getting much less money than bitcoin, simply because of the above. Bitcoin is an asset class of the level Ethereum will never be.

I know, right? Why would an inferior chain replace the orignal one that started it all? Without Bitcoin, Ethereum nor any of the zillions of others coins we know and love today would've existed. BTC enjoys first-mover advantage. I fail to see how that would change in the future. Especially when no other coin is as decentralized and reliable as the "King".

The OP must be dreaming. There's nothing wrong with that, though. If held ETH in your wallet goes to the moon, you'll be able to cash out some pretty huge rewards. Same goes with holding BTC long-term. The crypto market is unpredictable. So expect the unexpected. Cheesy

What will be the future of bitcoin as investors shift their focus from bitcoin to the second-largest crypto asset by market capitalization.

According to research note published by CryptoSlate.
The exchange, citing various data such as options skewness, portfolio adjustments and whale stocks, noted that the launch of the ETF is likely to boost the long-term price of Ethereum.
And as such investors are selling bitcoin in their possession, to acquire Ethereum and I begin to doubt the future of bitcoin!
It's dullard being who don't know about Bitcoin would spew this bullshit and expect people to clap for them for believing that Ethereum ETF will make investors divert their attention from bitcoin to Ethereum.

It is a delusional imagination if I am to say, for someone to think that bitcoin will be replaced by Ethereum or any other coin. So, remove such crap mentality from your head than believe what shillers are saying the Ethereum ETF would do. This is Ethereum that can't skyrocket Ethereum to $10k before the end of 2025, would replace bitcoin. hahaha

No sensible investor will sell his Bitcoin to get hold of Ethereum. Yes, the money will come in ETH as its ETF is also approved but that will be new money flowing the Ethereum. Bitcoin investors will never be willing to sell their Bitcoin only to invest in Ethereum.

Secondly, I understand the fear in the market, as the price is constantly dumping. MTgox threat and all these negative sentiments are making the newbies think that Bitcoin's future is in doubt. These weak hands will sell their bitcoins and only the diamond hands will make big profits in the coming bull run.

Since Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, it is more popular than Ethereum coins. So I think that even if Ethereums growth is good temporarily, Bitcoin futures will not be bad.

I think what you are trying to do is spreading FUD which ofcourse many new crypto enthusiast get aroused by such information but if you have done your research and seen the possible outcome then you would know that Bitcoin is actually just getting started and it's future is still very great. Imagine a coin where all the world top investment and giant company have almost half of their share in it @microstrategy and so many more. Bitcoin future can only be one thing and that's greatness and I urge you let go of any fantasy and queue in onto the moving train before you get left behind.

So you think that Bitcoin's future is in doubt just because some crypto investors will sell BTC and buy ETH? Really?
There will be some short term hype around the Ethereum ETF(just like there was hype around the Bitcoin ETF), but this hype won't last for long and it won't turn Ethereum into the number one cryptocurrency. The ETH price will never reach the Bitcoin price ATH, mostly because Ethereum isn't as scarce as Bitcoin. We are witnessing a summer price drop right now and I'm sure that all cryptocurrencies(including Ethereum) are going to decrease their market cap.

one research doesn't determine the sureness or the plausibility of such thing to happen; remember that markets are extremely volatile and an analysis from yesterday might not be true now

lol nobody is switching their focus to Ethereum. Ethereum is a playground for experiments (maybe one or more of those experiments takes off one day, maybe not). Bitcoin is global decentralized money for humanity. Two veryyyyyy different things.

Folks, I heard the talk. Some are worried about Bitcoin because of Ethereum. Set the record straight. Bitcoin is more than a flashy thing. The OG, the crypto world's basis. The digital gold standard. Ethereum's got its merits. This platform is smart and promising. But that doesnt mean Bitcoin's going anywhere. In fact, its getting stronger. Its massive, enduring, and unavoidable.

Those following the latest trend may miss that. Like sheep, they'll pursue Ethereum. Smart money values proven assets, a store of worth thats endured. That rock is Bitcoin. The future of finance rests on it. Yes, diversify your portfolio. Thats smart. Dont believe the hype. Ethereum's growth doesnt spell Bitcoin's demise. It only indicates crypto is expanding. That benefits everyone.

Remember, Bitcoin isnt just an investment. A movement. Freedom, decentralisation, and a new money mindset. Take charge of your finances. Its powerful.

Speculators will spook themselves over just about anything, won't they?  So dramatic.

Insert usual comments about weak hands.  Keep calm and zoom out, etc.

The sky is not falling.

I'd like to start a reflection on the future of Bitcoin, especially concerning long-term investments. It's tempting to think of Bitcoin as a guarantee for the future, a secure bet for retirement or financial stability. However, we must consider the uncertainty inherent in any investment, no matter how promising it seems.

We can never be certain what the future holds. The cryptocurrency market, in particular, is volatile and subject to rapid and unpredictable changes. Investing using strategies like dollar-cost averaging can help mitigate some of these fluctuations, but it doesn't eliminate the risk. The truth is, we never know when a significant price drop might occur.

Moreover, there's the issue of the global economy. Anything can happen in the future that could cause a major crisis in global markets, such as wars, natural disasters, political and fiscal issues, among others. All these factors have the potential to affect not only Bitcoin but all financial assets.

A critical point for reflection is the idea of investing with such conviction for the long term but never realizing significant profits. Many of us hold the belief that Bitcoin will be a source of wealth in the future, but what if that doesn't materialize? What if our investments end up being just abstract numbers on digital screens?

Therefore, it's important to be pragmatic in our investment approaches. It's essential to have an exit strategy, consider taking profits at strategic times, and be prepared to adjust our strategy as the market evolves. This doesn't mean abandoning the long-term vision but ensuring that we make informed and conscious decisions.

I don’t know how true it this because I don’t think Bitcoin holders will sell their they have in their portfolio for Ethereum; they will rather stop investing in Bitcoin for now to stock more Etherum in their portfolio.
If the Ethereum ETF is lunched, there is a possibility that Ethereum will get more value than it gets now, and anyone that hold Ethereum will gain profit; but all these acts are to take people’s attention off Bitcoin which is not possible in my opinion because Bitcoin is the pioneer Crypto coin and any other coin will follow its suit.

Should all these be enough reason for us to doubt the future of bitcoin when all you're considering are just like a chase after a ponzi scheme,, this is altcoins we are talking about, forget about the fact that some of them may make use for ethereum network or any other strong and well recognized crypto network, they still have high rate of risk than what we could find in bitcoin, so don't try to get panic for any reason as bitcoin network remain the best and bitcoin the very best option to go for in cryptocurrency, what others are saying could be untrue.
