i think in crypto currency, bitcoin don't have competitor but in other investment, gold is the heavy competitor because gold is use by the many of people which have money to buy gold. so bitcoin is still be the king in crypto currency and its never replace by another crypto currencies.
I agree to you, Bitcoin is the king of crypto currency and I dont think it will be replace by any crypto currency like you think. We cant compare gold and bitcoin as competitor because they are both different. Both gold and bitcoin is now very valuable that any one of us wants it.

Of course Bitcoin has competitors, all the other cryptos compete against Bitcoin. Not very successful right now, but this can change any minute. Also Gold serves a different purpose, because most use it not as an investment to make money, but to diversify. If the stock market and Bitcoin go bonkers, then you still have some value not like people who lost it all.

Actually, Bitcoin has competitors. The problem is that most of them chose the wrong way to try to reach Bitcoin.
So far I have not seen any PoS coin reaching a market cap near to the Bitcoin market cap, or at least remain stable in the market for quite a while, and even then people keep choosing the same path to create new cryptos.

No it does not have any competition directly but it is making gold having a run at it's value per ounce. Cheesy
If it does come down to what you would want in exchange for you money would you take one troy ounce of gold or a whole bitcoin? Embarrassed
I would go with the bitcoin. Wink

The trend seems to be people hyping up some coin and then everyone starts buying it, then something happens and people start running back to Bitcoin. How much of this is manipulation of the

markets, will probably never be known. Bitcoin is to Crypto currency, like Gold is for other commodities... a safe heaven against the storm.  Roll Eyes ...The Mommy to run to, when you get hurt.  Wink ... The

Mother of All Crypto currencies.  Grin Grin Grin
Bitcoin still have competitor, etherium could be the strongest one.  Bitcoin is still too stronger than it's competitor. So I think probably the other cryptocurrency will just come and die.

Have you heard that the Chinese Republic of Chine is trying to replace Chinese Yuan with a virtual fiat currency and at the same time banking and financial institutions held a meeting on Las Vegas on how to integrate Blockchain Technology in the banking system. Though at this moment bitcoin has no competition but if that project will be launch bitcoin will a have a tough time competing with these fiat virtual currencies.

That aint really competition. It is more like alternatives. Those have different definition. I would say they are like mimicking bitcoin in order to create their own profits.
Still they wont reach it. Look at how far the value is and how far the price is to other coins.
They are competing for the same market share so every single altcoin is a competitor to bitcoin, but they are not really big right now, but there are some very interesting coins out there that may pose a threat in the future.
No way. That is way too impossible to happen. The fall of bitcoin is also the fall for them. Just think how this coins are connected thanks to bitcoin. Without it there will be lost in connection, lost of trust from people and they will need to make their way up which will take time plus taking back that trust. It will take forever.

in my opinion bitcoin has competition.
Other crypto like litecoin, rubies, eth , moon etc getting popularity nowadays.
Bitcoin grow so high because so many service using bitcoin, even some ransomware decryptor need to paid with bitcoin.
that why bitcoin more famous than other alt-coin.

Bitcoin has been steadily losing market cap dominance, from 90%+ just two years ago to ~80% today.

When it comes to exchange dominance it's just 66.4%.

This trend will probably continue and in a few years there will be people using cryptocurrencies that do not know what bitcoin is.

People trade for money. Trading Bitcoin, which has been quite stable until the current pump, was boring, there had few money to make, so they headed to altcoins market because it is cheaper, so even a little rise, combinated with possessing 100 000 of this altcoins will make great bucks in your pocket.

But, bitcoin will always be on top, it's hard to go beyond bitcoin shade.
That's simply not true, if other cryptocurrencies become more advanced, are easier to use and receive more adoption, they'll overtake Bitcoin without any trouble. Bitcoin definitely has an advantage because it was the first, but its development is slow, so it may be outpaced by others.
I agree to this opinion. Zcash is absolutely more effective along with its full anonymous function. Etherium is also the good competition but the Dao team can not manage it properly so that right now Etherium is a little weaker

Well, there's existed other cryptocurrencies which have better features or even much more features than bitcoin but still can't take over the bitcoin's place. Even my opinion was whether the coin will be popular or not is based on its community. I think that competing bitcoin with the same system such as using blockchain is really hard because when people just heard blockchain then they think it's something related to bitcoin.
If someone or some groups want to really compete bitcoin then they should develop a new system which is really better and unique

your statement is contradicting itself Cheesy
if an altcoin has a "better" feature then it will grow automatically and will replace bitcoin with ease. you should know that there is a difference between a feature that looks interesting or good and a feature that is really good and is useful. the later is not easily found and most altcoins which are hyped up are using the former as a technique to show their altcoin as good and get a pump out of it.
I'm in my post above talking that so far until now none of those coins with "better" feature compared to bitcoin could take over on bitcoin's place (most used and on the top ranking of market cap according to http://coinmarketcap.com/)
No offense but as for example monero which is anonymous if you compare with bitcoin (pseudo-anonymous) and you can call it "better" but as you can see its market cap still number 5 and having really wide gap if you compare with bitcoin even though it's having "better" feature and "more useful" then can you explain it based on your statement below?
"if an altcoin has a "better" feature then it will grow automatically and will replace bitcoin with ease"
I know the popularity of cryptocurrencies is affected by so many factors and features is one of them that's why having only "better" features will can't rocketing its popularity and not enough to be in the top ranking.

Yes, I agree with you. Bitcoin is still number one and Now there are not any altcoins which can replace at the present.
Perhaps, Bitcoin was born early and this digital currency has been trusted by many users so Bitcoin has no competition.

Bitcoin is the origin of cryptocurrency. Any other cryptocurrencies were born based on bitcoin. Among those cryptocurrencies, some of them are capable of competing with bitcoin. But, bitcoin will always be on top, it's hard to go beyond bitcoin shade.

Agreed on that bitcoin is origin of cryptocurrencies and yeah bitcoin is on top position but the thing is if other cryptocurrencies become easy to use for their users like they will accept in the local markets or in online market and if there offline stores establish then these currencies easily beat bitcoin. Bitcoin is on top just because it is used in online market like a central currency and also there are many offline stores for bitcoin that's why bitcoin has more demand in the market.

Some altcoins has achieved becoming more advanced and easier to use than bitcoins. But the thing is, almost everything about crypto-currencies is either about or pointed towards adoption. If no one's using the coin, then it's a failure. If there's a lot, the it's a success. No coin has more users than bitcoins. Becoming an altcoin user just introduces you to bitcoins so basically (almost) all altcoin users are bitcoin users.

Right now, there's no major force that makes people migrate from using bitcoins into using a certain altcoin.
