It will be increasingly popular, and in the next 10 years technology will be more advanced and cryptocurrency will be more likely to be used as currency.

Bitcoin evolved a lot in it's first decade. We saw a lot of improvements in it's underlying code (SegWit, Lightning Networks, etc.), a lot of controversies and many more.

Hopefully in the next 10 years, there will be a much better improvement in it as well as better mainstream adoption in it's truer sense.
Controversy is always going to be part of bitcoin since it is impossible to have a new way to understand money and not have such problems but so far we have been successful in resolving those issues even if some people differed and created their own forks, what worries me is that as bitcoin becomes more popular more bad actors will come and will probably try to take control of the network so the next decade will be very interesting.

Indeed it will be. Though for me, growth will definitely come within that time. If i have that much to spare, i'd stock up on bitcoin right now to hold for the next 10 years.

In 2029 BTC will be replaced by new global cryptocurrency. It will be centralized stablecoin, issued by Federal Reserve or another big group of wold biggest banks and corporations. Some FedCoin or so Smiley. It will be fast, comfortable. Payments will be easy and consumers will be happy. Reliably and stability of traditional banking system powered by blockchain technology.

Bitcoin will be used by anarchists (mainly cryptoanarchists) and criminals of all sorts - drugdillers, hackers.  It will cost 100-200 dollars or so.

in my opinion too far if we talk bitcoin in 2029, we should focus on discussing bitcoin this year and next year. in my opinion it's more useful than making careless predictions.

Of course we should definitely talk about bitcoin for this year. But you can go back to the old thread here and you will see similar post asking the what's if for bitcoin in its 10th anniversary, so here we are right now.

Time flies so fast that who won't noticed we are already in 2029 and looking back at this thread and see our predictions. I'm just hoping for a mass adoption of bitcoin or crypto in general. We might see signs all over, saying "Bitcoin Accepted" here or something.

In the US paying taxes in Bitcoin will be legal. The IRS will have put in place commonsense Bitcoin tax regulations and when purchasing things you either won't pay taxes or only on large dollar purchases.

This is what I'm most curious about. I know there was a proposed federal bill to exempt purchases < $600 from taxation, but as expected it got shot down. I'd like to think you're right, but I really don't think the IRS has any interest in cutting bitcoiners slack. I don't even think they can make regulations like that. Congress would need to pass a law that specifically exempts cryptocurrencies or creates a new tax structure for them. I'm not sure that'll happen either. They'd be giving us free tax breaks.

By 2029 Bitcoin should be a mature market - wall st institutions have a few million bitcoin, there are bitcoin etfs and other products in the investment community, well over a 1-3 billion people own bitcoin.

Bitcoin will be digital gold by then for the younger generations. Instead of storing wealth in stocks and gold most people under 40 will store wealth in stocks and Bitcoin.

Bitcoin through the LN will be available by any major online merchant, and some brick and mortar companies.

All major banks will allow people to store bitcoin with them right alongside their savings and checking account, including having a LN wallet for each customer run by the bank.

The price will have been solidly in the 6 digits for several years by this point, even during the lows of a crash, and volatility will be much less than it is today.

All crypto exchanges will be regulated.

Some companies pay salaries in Bitcoin over the LN.

Have a Bitcoin/LN app on your phone will be as commonplace as having a Venmo/Square/Paypal/etc app.

In the US paying taxes in Bitcoin will be legal. The IRS will have put in place commonsense Bitcoin tax regulations and when purchasing things you either won't pay taxes or only on large dollar purchases.

Investing in Bitcoin will be as mainstream as investing in stocks.

Making purchases over the LN will be at least as mainstream as paying with your phone is now (don't think it'll be at the mainstream level of credit cards though).

There will be no more people claiming bitcoin is a fraud/ponzi/worthless/etc. Bitcoin will just be a normal part of society.

Outside of Bitcoin, there will be a few other major coins that fill other niches, and there will still be plenty of altcoins for companies but the bar to entry and actually get people to buy in will be higher, but it will essentially be like investing in early stage startups but available to the masses instead of just for the rich, and likely these will be regulated so only legit companies get federally approved (could be different across countries though of course).

BTCBITCOIN's 10th birthday just happened. So after 10 years from here BTCBITCOIN will 20 years old. So how BTCBTC will be in 2029? Let's share ideas...  Wink Wink Wink
No one can certainly said were bitcoin will be in 2029 and we would need a magician to tell us that but I have a view that bitcoin is going to be far better than were we are as it has happened in the past.  Remember that bitcoin is going to be the future of our financial industries and institutions and I therefore believe that cryptocurrencies market will became mainstream before then.  Investors are going to patronize cryptocurrencies market and stock and forex market may become obsolete.

It is hard to see so far ahead especially with an asset like bitcoin which can move so abruptly and with no explanation for its behaviour, but I think the first 10 years were spent trying to get everyone to know that something like bitcoin exists, so the next years will see a consolidation of bitcoin as an alternative form of payment you can use instead of fiat and the decade after that will probably see the adoption all over the world we are all expecting.

I think predicting bitcoin in 2029 is still too far away, because for the next 10 years the market will always go up and down, and it could be in 2029 it will be like in 2017 or even like 2018, because nobody knows.

this is a very distant plan. what is clear is that there are only two choices, namely bitcoin will die or bitcoin will grow very fast. but my feeling says if bitcoin will grow very fast.

You open the thread with the aim of speculating too far and this will lead to opinions that don't make sense. If you see that last year people had confidence in quality speculation that bitcoin would reach 150% of the price of that day. See what happens now?

Well, it can't be both. You can't expect something that is used as a stable value currency to also be a "wonderful investment vehicle". If Bitcoin is to become a true currency (I know it can be transacted now but it's not actually a currency beyond people who choose to invest in in first) then its only investment purpose would be as a hedge against fiat currencies. Meaning people could buy and hold Bitcoin and not expect the value to appreciate significantly but to avoid depreciation of a fiat currency due to it's deflationary nature.

So by "wonderful investment vehicle" we're talking about 3% return per year. Freebitco.in is paying 4% per year!

US Dollar inflation was 2.44% in 2018 and we add to this the deflation of Bitcoin because some will hold, some will lose Bitcoins and so on. If we add them up we get easily 3-4% in US Dollar, more than what the banks give. But I expect hoarding will actually bring it to over 7%.
And it'll be safer than in the banks or stocks.

By 2029 or so, I think the potential outcome is quite binary. Either 1 BTC will be worth millions (if mass adoption happens) or it'll be worth next to nothing (if adoption declines and speculators abandon it).

I think it's so binary because it might follow the adoption curve of other mass adopted technologies (television, cell phones, internet). If it does that, we're going to the moon. Wink If not, it'll be reduced to a small niche, in which case speculators will stop betting on its future.

Depends on us.  Why did I said that? For me the future of the bitcoin is depends on the investor and that is US. If we leave bitcoin and stop investing maybe in the year 2029 the bitcoin gone or already dead after 10 years. But if we still investing maybe the life span or life of the bitcoin will increase and in that year maybe we should still see bitcoin and having a good price and value.
