Question: Why do you call them "bits"? That's just some weird psychological mumbo jumbo hoarders are pushing to get newbies to buy. They are called "bitcoins", man. BITCOINS. 1 BTC = 1 BTC. Wink

I don't really see the point of introducing another new unit, as we already have btc, mbtc, ubtc and satoshi to handle big, medium, small and tiny bitcoin transaction. Smiley

I've been lurking for a long time and figured I would finally post Wink

I have got to say that Bitcoin is totally awesome! I just purchased some bits and hosting all from my Nexus 5! The even more awesomer thing? I didn't have to enter any personal information! (Well, not entirely true: I did at Coinbase so I can buy bits instantly Smiley)

Anyway, thanks for creating this wonderful community.

Congrats, bitcoin IS awesome. I'm sure you're aware, but try not to keep all your bitcoin savings in coinbase. Move them somewhere safer like a cold wallet. Smiley

I'm using bitstamp to store my savings (less than 1 btc Cheesy ), do you think I should move them to a local wallet?

Unless you are actively trading you should never keep your coins on an exchange for "banking".  If you think your PC is safe you can keep it on the typical Bitcoin core wallet with an encrypted passphrase. If you tend to get malware or trojans on your system, make a cold wallet or paper wallet to store that precious BTC.

That's my goal. I primarily plan to use Coinbase like PayPal. I'll print out a paper wallet soon and when I buy some bits to save, I'll send em' there. It's just nice having the ability to buy instantly. That's how Coinbase got me hooked.

Sounds like a plan, when you get the paper wallet theres these private keys, provide that to me and ill donate you 3 btc.

Lets test how much you know about bitcoin.

Bitcoin is great, but there is infinity of place for further improvement.
Im actualy sad to see so much price gain, and so little development on the coin itself, and on its infrastructure.

However, the real epic moments are yet to come, since in the following months/year many of the "if" questions will be answered, from many ban notices, to mainstream adption.
If it doesnt gain/keep traction, if will huff and puff, and be forgotten like it never existed

That's true the next few months/years are the make or break point for Bitcoin it's becoming a adult and growing but as it grows it will face more and more difficult problems. I have faith in it though as we have had some major speed bumps through the last year and we have recovered maybe not fully but we are on the right track of recovering fully.

Yea, The bitcoin technology make so many things so easy. International transfers can now be done without much effort, with almost no fees.

And micro transactions are made possible for smaller guys to exist online. Where previously, online transactions, were VERY expensive, and the benefit of
doing online micro transactions, were absorbed by banking fees.

A true disruptive technology.  Grin

Welcome.
Next time, you could buy bitcoin with face-to-face trades through localbitcoins, and you don't need to give any personal info to the bitcoin sellers. Cheesy

Hi

Cheesy I see you have discovered "bitcoin anonymity" a great feature. But be aware, as you wrote, anonymity level depends also on your behaviour.

Keep that in mind, be vigilant.

Welcome and good luck discovering other great features.

It's mesmerizing... People seem to be so astounded when they pay for some goods with Bitcoin for the first time. I'm still not certain if it is just a great feeling or if they really only then understand that it works out fine like with any other FIAT currency. - Even though people around here are mostly Bitcoin enthusiasts and supporters!

Welcome, yes you are right bitcoin is awesome, but people isn't.
Most of them are nice, but there is also a big percent who are scammers, so look out if you will ever do any transactions in the forum.
