I never used Western Union, but I do believe they lowered their fees. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. As I said I never actually used it so do not insult me about it.

Nothing wrong. They haven't reduced their fee, but has increased and improved their service with much user friendly atmosphere, which a normal person expect when he is not aware of technology.

I don't think so.
In my country we have Western Union in post offices and some banks, financial agency etc.
I sew so many times how difficult is this process for people.
Sometimes phone or Internet lines broken, long time no confirmation, very long waiting etc.
When I send money with BTC, it's done in seconds and my identity is protected. Smiley
So, my answer to the question is only possible one: Bitcoin.

I don't like to use Western Union as we have Bitcoin exchanges now that can convert Bitcoin to cash very fast but in some other countries Western Union is the only alternative if you want your family to have cash in hand sent by you from abroad. For example in less developed countries in Africa and Asia Western Union is a popular way to send and receive money. I hope Bitcoin will become more mainstream and more people will get to know its advantages over the other payment processors and how much lower its fees are compared to others.

No they haven't they are charging same fees from their customers as they were charging in the past and that is the worst feeling to have as the fees are too high.

yeah, they are still charging the same high fee for transactions which is bad for us, they should have to lower their price now, as now they will not surf much of their energy to transfer one's money.

People who are using bitcoin don't need WU anymore, as they have been cheating  us since long time in the form of fees and we will see more users using bitcoin in future once they are aware of it.

If bitcoin does succeed massively & reach the heights that we all know are possible then I think Western Union is more likely to be impacted negatively first than paypal or the banks. Western Union just will not be able to compete with bitcoins low fees.

WU is popular worldwide and they have their branches in almost every corner of the world and that is the reason people prefer it more but when they will come to know about bitcoin they will surely start using bitcoin.

I never used western union i went into bank sometime ago asking how it works since the seller worked with it,when i saw the feee i said no way i will pay such ammount ,i havent bought and forget about those thing.Bitcoin hasnt yet a safe place to buy and sell when it comes i believe we will save at fees, atleast it should. The only problem at bitcoin is that cant be exchanged anywhere for a good fee for both not the ratio that is being traded.

bitcoin will have low fees than western union if you just transfer/send the btc,if you'd exchange the btc to your local currency, i don't think the fees will remain low,an exchanger usually took 1-5% amount of btc which exchanged

Everytime fees doesn't matter, time factor is the most important, WU takes long time for credits, while bitcoin is too fast, and a person who is in emergency he will be willing to pay higher fees if he needs money badly.

Sure.. #Bitcoin is better than #Western_Union...
Minimum fees of #Bitcoin = 0.0001 BTC = $0.04185
Minimum fees of #Western_Union ($0-$50) = 0.03346 BTC = $14

I also like bitcoin than western union, usually use bitcoin than western union. You're absolutely right from aspect fees bitcoin is cheapest than western union. It is one of advantage that we can get when we make a transaction with bitcoin.

This thread should be renamed "BITCOIN IS BETTER THAN APPLES?!" Because would make as much sense.

People use Western Union to send *cash money, in local currency, usually in some emergency.* The sort of cash money that buys food/smokes at a bodega next door and gas at a gas station.

Sending bitcoins doesn't put cash in your friend's pocket -- only bitcoins. Bitcoins that need to be sold for actual folding money.
If your friend is willing to go out and sell shit, might as well send her reddit gold, WoW Tokens, porn site tokens, or any other digital bullshit that's a pain in the butt to turn into spendable money.
And then start a thread "WoW TOKENS BETTER THAN BITCOIN ?"

Hope this clears things up a bit.

not only one advantage, compared to western union, bitcoin has several advantage,
compared to traditional money remittance, western union charges more,
mathematical errors have been made at many instances,
people also experienced having wrong currency exchange,
identification card and a custom transaction number is all that necessary to claim money, so more possible use by scammers.
so bitcoin is always better than western union.

At least where I live (and is a very shit country) Western Union has a very hhigh fee comparing it to BTC. And when we take in a exchange (BTC x WU) it's ridiculous because it's more than 20% more expensive than convert the country's currency to US Dollars plus the ~9% of normal WU fee. I don't know how WU acts in US or Europe, but in South America it sucks totally and we're beating WU very well with money transfer and using normal deposit  in any bank you want to use. WU is ridiculous in a comparison with BTC.
This is why I try to not make too many payments/withdrawals/ transfers. You have to do it when you absolutely need to.

Oh. Man that is hilarious to me to be very honest. My theory is that Western Union was probably one of the very first money transfering systems in the country. From there, they just said to themselves, "hey, we basically have nobody in competition with us, so let's be honest. We don't have to be reasonable at all!"

That kind of reminds of this commercial for Skittles candy where a guy went to a corner store in the middle of absolutely no where and the guy charged $100 for a small pack of skittles. The customer argues with the seller, so the seller says "well, maybe you'd like to buy your skittles somewhere else'.

Obviously, he has no choice if there are no other options in sight. Oh my god.
