Bitcoin will still be miles ahead of Ether. The little pull back noticed is as a result of some countries auctioning their Bitcoin stake(South Korea). Bitcoin will surely continue its upwards movement as more and more countries are working towards total acceptance as means of exchange.

And why do you think bitcoin is being surpassed be Eth, could you please elaborate in more detail? In twenty four hours ethereum trading volumes passed bitcoin trading according to data from CoinMarketCap on tuesday. But I don't think that is sufficient "proof" that bitcoin is less popular all of a sudden. If Eth sustains higher trading volumes over a longer period, then maybe we can say Eth is provably more popular than bitcoin.  It is nowhere near it for now.

Agree, why many people stated that ethereum could surpass bitcoin as number 1 cryptocurrency due to small increases of eth, I mean bitcoin price at $2600 and ethereum still below $400, how could it compete with bitcoin prices? When segwit activated, then bitcoin price will skyrocket again, even before segwit be activated, people will trigger to invest on bitcoin. I just consider ethereum as an alternative, so it's called altcoins, used for trading purpose.

Bitcoin is not declining as the top currency, it still has maintained itself as the top currency in the crypto universe and the most recognized and gaining the most complete adoption and recognition IMO, Even the rise in ethereum is just a temporary thing.
Its currently  declining and goes down slowly by this stage because huge amount of users are switching to altcoins now because of the issue of slow and big transactions fees which is the cause of declining in popularity

I think with respect to the news, the acceptance in stores and so on, bitcoin is still the leading crypto. It is now more a question for the future if we manage to achieve lower transaction fees and faster transaction confirmation processes. Bitcoin definitely has proven to offer the required security and reliability level to be the crypto of the future.

Really now? I am pretty sure bitcoin is most popular right now and it doesn’t look like bitcoin is declining in popularity right now. What do you mean by ETH passing bitcoin?

I do think that ETH will grow but for ETH to grow so well, but for it to grow, so it beats bitcoin seems very unlikely especially with bitcoin being so popular. There are faults in bitcoin, no doubt, with the long confirmation times and transaction fees. Even though bitcoin is relatively old compared to new cryptocurrencies it has a lot of media attention, especially with recent news related to Japan. Bitcoin has most of our trust and it would take another cryptocurrency with even more trust and a better reputation to take over bitcoin, or who would ever buy or use that cryptocurrency? No one would trust it, since it would be too new

ETH is in breaking news because of it's price raised 300% during one month, bitcoin's result are much more modest, that's why so many ago I around it.
I think ETH will continue to grow for some more weeks, but the pop is coming.

No, he is talking about bitcoin declining as #1 in the cryptocurrency chart that includes all altcoins as well as bitcoin, so Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.

The reason is basically a lot of hype over altcoins, for example Ethereum and Antshares(dubbed the Chinese ethereum i think for some reason although the ICO actually didn't go all that successfully. Other coins like Lisk have tripled in price, digibyte has also absolutely exploded in price but now is adjusting and price is in freefall at the moment.

It's not bitcoin becoming less popular at all. It's still the first cryptocurrency, no matter what. And this will have a huge impact on people that are trying to get into crypto. They'll alway look at bitcoin before they look at anything else. When this altcoin hype and ICO hype in general dies off, bitcoin dominance will probably go back up to at least 60%.

Then he needs to phrase his question properly. As it stands, none of the crypto in the top 5 according to the "cryptocurrency chart" are in decline. Developments are underway for all, adoption is growing, trade volume and tx #s are up across the board. We're watching almost all proper cryptos do anything but decline.
The point here i think by the OP is just about the ranking. Bitcoin is just declining in ranking because of the hypes of the recent coins like ethereum which it has a great rally on its price because of the ICOs and a lot more that helps the price rally to be stronger and make the price pump so fast.

it doesn't look like that at all! I don't understand where all this FUD is coming from?
In regards to usage, the vast majority and still using bitcoins, some even exclusively, the price of bitcoin has had many jumps as big as or more than Ethereum, also the media coverage is more than 90% focused on bitcoin and ETH just shares the rest with Doge, LTC and the rest...

Why do you guys think Bitcoin is declining in popularity? Looks like Ethereum will pass it. What can Bitcoin do to maintain number 1?

It's not. You just think that it is. The fact that it has a few problems that have to be solved and are hopefully going to be solved soon.

If you want to compare cryptocurrencies as bitcoins and ether and say that btc is declining, let's compare their usage.
BTC is way way more popular in shops and stores. In how many shops can you use other cryptos ?

Altcoins do and will always exist side by side with bitcoins but it would never be replaced (my very own opinion)

Because the user crypto a growing number and special options, for example the user crypto likes gambling he can select that feature complete for gambling, or users who like speed then can select the ethereum, it looks like this will continue.

If you are talking about the popularity declining due to the decreasing price of bitcoin then you have a misconception. Bitcoin is still the most popular cryptocurrency of all, the ups and downs of BTC price is not a new thing here. I am sure that the price will soon going to increase rapidly as the demand will shoot up high.

ETH goes high right now and I guess it's because of the fact that so many ICOs use it for funding these days. But I don't think bitcoin is declining, it's just turbulence.

Segwit2x is a compromise, but with 80% of miners signaling Segwit2x, in the last 24 hours the price of ETH and all other major alts have dropped. With the scaling solution near at hand, what do you think would happen to ETH when Segwit gets activated? I guess some sensible users have already started moving their funds from alts to bitcoin.

I don't think that the popularity of the Bitcoin is going down because many people ( almost every) enter in the cryptocurrency because of the reason of the Bitcoin , because they only listen Bitcoin and they want earn Bitcoin , since transaction fee and price making the people hard to make buy ( costly due to fee ) small fraction of the Bitcoin . So I think every new users always face disappointment only of the reason of the high fee  .But still I don't think that in the world the discussion about the Bitcoin is going down .
And also you can see that most of the countries for the legalisation of virtual currency are making rules for the Bitcoin only because it is still the kind .
But here who are the old bitcoiners are making profit more in other altcoins than in Bitcoin , so the craz of the Bitcoin for the old bitcoiners is going small down .
But still at the end we can't do our trading ( whether altcoin or direct Bitcoin trading ) easily .

Even if we say that eth is popular. It still needs the support of the root currency which btc. Umlike btc who doesn't actually needs eth to stay alive now that is the difference
yep eth still needs btc if you want to convert it to fiat and other altcoins still need btc for trading than major altcoin like eth. indeed bitcoin has an expensive cost compared to altcoin event though the bitcoin is still number 1 in coinmarketcap.

I think bitcoin declining its popularity now at this stage is common i think, bitcoins transactions are much slower than the old one and high fees so investors and users switched to other altcoins available in the market

Really? How did this happen can you give us your source of this?
Because as far as I know bitcoin is really on top all over the crypto currencies despite the fact of high fees and delay of transactions, since bitcoin is still counting for its investors, I mean it still gaining supporters and continue despite of it. The value of bitcoin is still increasing so I guess ETH is not surpassing BTC yet.
Bitcoin is always number one among the cryptocurrency. It will always be number one because many of us believing its ability to maintain high value. We all know that the value will increase in the next few years so that's why people invest their money there to make have a profit. Hope it will gonna be forever because I live with that.
