Just counter his argument by pointing out that vast majority of the illegal transactions are done using fiat cash payment. Bitcoin is a relatively new idea, and only a few tens of thousands are actively using it. Physical cash is the most anonymous payment method, and that is the reason why the vast majority of the criminals are using it as a payment method.

Hmm... another great opportunity for the MSM to tarnish Bitcoin. Richard Huckle is perhaps the millionth pedophile who tried to sell pornographic pictures of under-age children. And he happens to be the first, who demanded payments in BTC. My question is what about the other 1 million pedophiles, who sold these pictures for fiat cash? The MSM will never give a headline like "pedophile sells underage porn for USD"....
