This is seems to be the general sentiment when looking at Bitcoin and Ethereum right now. Although I would say that comparing the two may not be really fair as they are different but they honestly fight for the same market as far as we are concerned. There is a good possibility that Ethereum can soon take the leadership being enjoyed by Bitcoin right now if things would not be ironed out for Bitcoin.

One big advantage of Ethereum is it has a very visible leader and he is on control unlike with Bitcoin where Satoshi left a long time ago to let Bitcoin chart its own course -- well having no visible single leader can have its advantages but also disadvantages in times of division and strife.

The best thing to do for us is to have both Bitcoin and Ethereum.

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.

Bitcoin will never die but it will certainly lose it's value and it will be cheaper, it is a good time to invest on Ethereum  Grin

But the most expected coin to surpass it is ethereu. Because Russia is now developing its own coin and from what i see the creator of ethereum is Russian. So my guess is that the government with Sir Vladimir is making a move make ethereum the number one coin. In a sense also even if btc will be surpassed by ethereum, it will still be the greatest coin it became the platform of many other coins which is they just adapted the blockchain.

I think to replacing bitcoin is not an easy task, I know with all the bitcoin problem most of the user has changed their investment into other crypto currencies, this can be seen by the decreasing bitcoin's dominance, but there is so many things that need to be achieved to become number one, the user will demand the coins to be implemented in many country and many sectors, and don't forget the ETH itself ever forked before, so not all investor is trusting eth

Agreed, ethereum classic has a lot of community support and i heard yesterday that eth classic was the first crypto research in bloomberg terminals, and not ethereum. So that's going to hit ethereum pretty big.

Those who want to put their money in altcoins to hedge against the fork - i fully understand why. But why would anyone be buying in ethereum right now? It's not a good hedge because it is CENTRALIZED. Why is someone able to just fork ETH to reverse the damages done by the hacker? That means we can reverse any transaction, and how is this different to paypal?

Yes, Ethereum will replace Bitcoin in the future, Bitcoin can not be in its first place so long but not that long, it will be at least 3 - 4 years from now when ETH completely replace Bitcoin, it's my own opinion

Being number one mission is loaded to bitcoin by users. I somewhow doesn't understand this. Why do have to see bitcoin as number one? Can't there be any much better one out there? Of course there can be. So please stop commenting this type of things on bitcoin.

Well what's wrong being no. 2 huh? As long as bitcoin have the same value as today, let's say $2,500 to $3,500, this would be fine.
I'm also a fan of Eth but I don't think it can surpass btc, maybe eth is following the success of btc but not necessarily mean it would be no. 1. We're not fortune teller, or no one here can predict it. Unless Nostradamus is here. Lol! So being no. 1 or 2 is not a big deal after all.

To altcoins is more easy to get near to bitcoin, since bitcoin is limited to 21 milion, and the most of the altcoins getting close has a bigger supply then bitcoin, soo in the future it will be normal to see those coins to cross bitcoin maybe, since people pump and dump and always return home, bitcoin.

I agree to this topic that bitcoin cannot be the number one or the king for more years because there will be a time that it will be replaced by another better and faster currency and it will make bitcoin's price goes down very hard but as of now it is not possible to happen because we can still see at least 10,000 USD price for bitcoin in the next 10 years.
"The Flippening" is real. The strong candidate is ethereum. But remember the bitcoin already become a rule in crypto. As you can see all of the coin's price have pegged with bitcoin. That means bitcoin as a common floor for all of the crypto that is not easy to be forgotten.

I think ethereum may replace the bitcoin's place. But it can't replace the bitcoin impact in a crypto journey. The fundamental of bitcoin is really strong.

I think people are just hyping ethereum too much. they talk crap on how the bitcoin community couldnt handle these issues, but we just don't know if they cant or can either.
a lot of people are asking these questions because of bitcoins rapidly increasing price it has increase more than double of its original price .so people are now thinking either it will remain the same or not , but as the bitcoin prices are going up its not seems to be decrease that early .

Surely Bitcoin's 1st place will be replaced because of a lot of disavantages so that people will decice not to use Bitcoin for teir daily life
here I am not agree with your point of view about bitcoin prices  . now a days bitcoin is increasing its  pries as compare to the old age time when it was invented its prices were low enough but in this era bitcoin is a great and. highest level no doubt bitcoin is our futures brightness and now it has become very powerful currency

Bitcoin can not be the number one forever, for sure because nothing lasts forever but not that soon. In the future, another coins (altcoin) can replace Bitcoin and become the number one coin in the Internet  (maybe ETH) but whatever that coin will be, it's all to serve our human life

It is too early to predict whether Bitcoin will lose the top spot or not. The basics are still extremely strong. The user-base numbers in the millions, and is growing at a good pace. It was the first ever crypto-currency, and all the other alts have adopted at least a part of the technology from Bitcoin. Let's wait until August, to see what Jihan Wu and his friends can achieve.

I am putting my weight behind Bitcoin. Right now, I have a grand total of 0.000000 ETH in my wallet.
It's kind of comparing apples to oranges in some aspects though, since Bitcoin is nothing like Ethereum aside from being a crypto and moving coins back and forth. Bitcoin has a lot more of a focus on mining and value movement while Ethereum is more based around running applications and being fairly open for users to develop from.
There is no real good way to compare the two since their basic function differs a lot.

And that seems to be a key factor in real life

If moving coins back and forth accounts for over 90% in the value of both coins, I can't possibly see how it is not a good way to compare these two systems even if their basic function is allegedly different. Though if this function still de facto comes down to mostly speculation anyway (let's get real here), it in fact remains to be seen how much it is really different for Bitcoin and Ethereum. As to me, it is six of one and half a dozen of the other

So much loved for Etherium by majority here huh? What is the basis? Price increase? I can say 70% whales 30% community unlike in bitcoin almost 100% community. If only the current bitcoin transaction fee is the concern then it's not a big factor for Etherium to surpass bitcoin. There are already ways to deal with that scaling problem.

Etherium is part of my portfolio since Im getting profit out of holding it and taking advantage of ups and downs. But that is only for trading purposes since a trader must seek any coin that will give them income. Bitcoin is still my main cryptocurrency.

I think eventually we might see a currency taking over both of these, that currency would definitely be decentralized, and will also have the features of fast transactions with smaller fees.
Ethereum might top bitcoin for a while in the future but its certainly not a permanent solution. The way markets and whales and general people work, bitcoin will always come back up until that perfect crypto comes along.

It seems to me that rather than the price of Bitcoin falling it will simply stay at the 2-3k range when another cryptocurrency takes its place.
Bitcoin established itself as the go-to currency to fall back on from riskier investments. For that reason alone it will keep at least some of its value.
Not to mention this is the most publicized crypto which means a lot especially for people who aren't as involved in cryptos as most people here on Bitcointalk are.

I was not expecting that because when days, months or years passed I think no. 1 spot is not only for bitcoin. Also, there's a lot of coins should be develop and I think one of this coins breaks title given to bitcoin.

There is really a lot of coins out there but all of it doesn't really take a chance in bitcoin even if the Marketcap of some coins are larger than bitcoin, it is surely not enough for some alt's to surely take bitcoin place because the price was truly amazing right now, but in the impending split we can not sure what will happen I might say that let's just be ready for it I might sell my bitcoin when that happen! sad!
Yeah man if it is happened just be ready to sell our bitcoin, in our generation bitcoins was too famous but we don't know what will happen to bitcoin in the future. But I was hoping that even the bitcoin was not in the no.1 spot their price will still remain.

I don't worry if bitcoin falls from the number 1 spot, but it will still be widely accepted and used. As long as it can grow in value, it is fine for me. Things change when times change. Just stay positive. Diversify your assets and you will be just fine.
