is buying a cell phone bad??

A criminal talking about buying  a jailbroke(I hope he's a talking about the phone, how do you jailbroke bitcoin?) untraceable phone to mask other illicit activity doesn't sound like ringing endorsement to me(its at best shady at best) .So we're rejoicing because they didn't portray it as bad as they could(they need to make Jamie's character likeable or at leas tolerable, after all) ? Hey at least he wasn't trafficking  cocaine or hiring a hitman with it Roll Eyes
It makes it so more people will be interested in bitcoin. It is a sign that bitcoin is common enough that many people will understand when it if referenced in 'pop culture'

it doesn't strike me as bad. It's clear that it's anonymous. I think it's awesome exposure! The slight pause makes the word more noticeable, and it is used as part of the story line, drawing just enough attention to it.
"Prepaid with gold coins" / "prepaid with bitcoins" - nice. I like it!

jamie foxx's character mentions paying for burner phones with bitcoins.

i say this because many people thought bitcoin would never be mentioned in a multi-million dollar movie in 2014... well.. it now has

Here is the scene: http://youtu.be/-tUT9DiqkSo

Interesting, might this actually give Bitcoin extra exposure to non-tech people?

Let's hope the Bitcoin part won't get blurred or beeped out in some countries.

I doubt this by itself will help. People who don't know what Bitcoin is won't go looking just because of this. Especially for non-tech people, who will assume it's just some nerd thing. Censorship is the least of Bitcoins' problems.

I think it can. If you're watching a film and there's something you don't understand or know it will pique many people's interest or intrigue as to what it is and to look it up after.

For people interested in other instances, there was a whole episode or two with bitcoin as the main theme in the 'good wife' tv show. What was interesting was that it was done in 2009, very pre cool of them.

Just to clear this up, this ep is from 2012, 2009 is just when the show started  Tongue

I really don't get it why you guys are so excited about this. That scene didn't exactly portrays bitcoin in positive light,in fact in deepen the stereotype that   bitcoin is a criminal underground currency( not exactly favourable context).Heck,it's barely a second exposure with no clarifying whatsoever or even further mentioning for the rest of the movie.

The fact that Bitcoin remains fungible for both legal and illegal uses is precisely what give it credibility as a currency. If you couldn't buy a hooker and 8ball of coke to snort it off her ass with the old greenback than USD fiat wouldn't be a serious currency with any credibility.

The way it was mentioned was not really in a good way but the movie was very funny and has mass appeal, it was said by Jamie Foxx in the movie.

It was just a matter of time.

There's an article on cryptocoinsnews:

Horrible Bosses 2 Features Bitcoin Cameo

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/horrible-bosses-2-features-bitcoin-cameo/

Quote
While preparing to launch the scheme, the three friends reconnect with Motherf—er Jones (Jamie Foxx), a seemingly street-wise character who spent ten years in prison for recording movies illegally. Jones uses his black market connections to buy prepaid cell phones, which the friends intend to use to communicate with the father of their now-complicit captive. How does Jones know the cell phone purchase was untraceable? He paid with “Bit Coins,” of course. However, Jones simply mentions the transaction in passing; the audience does not see him make the Bitcoin purchase.

I hope this doesn't looks bad  Embarrassed. Good news that BTC was featured in a movie but criminal using it to buy untraceable goods, thats not how I would like to describe it to people.
