Bitcoin has been mentioned again (Episode 11 , Season 2) , and this time .. not just a logo .

"Hard cash is fading, rapidly,And bitcoin is spreading, and if bitcoin takes over we are all in a world of hell.” Philip price (the CEO of Evil corp in the movie) said that because he wants to make Ecoin #1 and make it centralized and give the control to the government.
the thing is , this actually what governments are trying hard to do today.

Subliminal advertising works: http://www.businessinsider.com/subliminal-ads-2011-5

An effective ad campaign uses a range of techniques, from overt marketing (e.g., commercials) to product placement in shows, and even more subtle methods.

The classic subliminal advertising apocrypha is this:

A cinema shows a movie trailer before the feature starts. It features a desert landscape from the cowboy Western movie it's advertising. The cinema owner deliberately slips single frames of a can of Coca-Cola, covered in carefully lit condensation. The idea is that the audience don't register the glistening can of Coke consciously, it appears for only a fraction of a second. But subconsciously, they know the Coca-Cola logo so well that the image does gently suggest, in combination with the desert scene, that the audience members might do well to go out into the lobby to buy something that will quench their thirst.

Mr Robot new episode came out yesterday and It seems like Bitcoin has been mentioned, I didn't watch the episode yet but according to telegraph.co.uk :

Quote
Several eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the new episode featured a Bitcoin-branded truck. With the global economy in freefall following the finale of season one, perhaps the digital payment system has overtaken the US dollar as a more stable unit of currency.
See more about the episode here : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/on-demand/2016/07/11/how-the-internet-reacted-to-the-mr-robot-season-2-leak/

I started to watch Mr.Robot Season 1 and saying the truth it's hard to understand whats going on, even though I understand the expressions (technology terminology) but it's hard to understand whats going on.
Started also watching the first episode of Season 2 but stopped after 10-15 minutes but will check now at minute 21st where bitcoin is mentioned but bitcoin is known by non-bitcoin related people as a dirty money, a currency that is only used by hackers.
For most people (and people who watch Mr. Robot specifically) there is some appeal that comes from having Bitcoin being referenced as a form of dirty money. It makes them feel cool or clandestine in their own way, and for some people they like that. Most people who like the show probably like thinking of themselves as a hacker or whatever. For some people that's just cool, and they might get involved with Bitcoin due to the relative ease of starting out.

Thinking that we are hackers just because we use bitcoin then this is not true, we know something that others don't know about cryptocurrencies but this does not makes us hackers because bitcoin just another currency!
I don't think that there are many people on this forum that think that we're hackers just because we use Bitcoin, but there are certainly other people who might think that way. It's not up to me to determine how people think of things, but it is definitely possible that Bitcoin is some kind of cool money or whatever. I personally know that Bitcoin is just a currency and ity isn;t anything special, but that doesn't stop other people from romanticizing it.

Thanks for the tip, but I could not even finish the first episode of Dope. If MR is a 10 Dope is a 2. YMMV.

If none of you have seen "Dope" i'd recommend watching it. Imagine if the story of "silk road" became a movie this would kinda be it, just on a much, much smaller scale. Some laughs to be had too. Back to my robot - the last episode gave me major brain farts like the worst the series has done to date  Grin

Bitcoin needs all the advertising it can get. It is beyond me why the Bitcoin Foundation or even companies like Coinbase do so little marketing. See the link in my sig.

Sorry to get off-topic. To get back on topic, I did find a clip of the Bitcoin truck and yes, there's even an audible mention of Bitcoin in that scene.

I'm starting to think that this kind of things is not helping Bitcoin anymore (I mean mentioning could do the job) but simply a picture of it won't do anything. as It's a simple B letter , this won't make anyone go to Google or whatever and start looking for it.

It's a form of subliminal advertising. In this case, the objective isn't to provoke people to immediately throw it into a search engine (like you said, it's just a picture). The idea is to familiarise the viewers with the BTC symbol in a commercial setting, so that they will accept it more willingly when they do encounter it in real life. All TV drama, however fantastical, contains elements that ordinary people can relate to, like a mirror that shows them reflections of other people doing things they themselves haven't imagined yet (hence the drama).

Do not underestimate the power of passive images, Plato attempted to ban images and sculpture from the Athenian republic because of the dangers he observed with large groups of people believing that false or misleading images are representative of real life.

Here's a wiki list of shows that have mentioned Bitcoin, along with links to clips where it's mentioned:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_references_in_TV_Shows

Interestingly, neither Mr. Robot or Blacklist are referenced in that list, but other posters have provided references for those instances.

I liked the first episode of season 1 of Mr. Robot, but after the first episode it seemed like 90% of the people had severe mental problems and had a Che Guevara mentality. Is the second season any better or more of the same?

I didn't know about this list; I think I may have my Bitcoin wiki account logs stored somewhere, If I found it, I will start editing the list! thanks

Season 2 Episode 7 (came out yesterday) :  Bitcoin got mentioned again (I'm watching the episode right now) , this time they didn't show a picture but actually mention it... I'm not sure If it's a good or bad thing since they related to it to the Darknet like 100%

I'm so confused after that episode.

I think their talk about e-coin is like the bank's blockchain coin. But ya, they are not being Bitcoin friendly tying it to evil things implying that allowing the market to do its thing will end in people selling sex slaves and hired assassins.

e-coin was the corporate /private currency
"you the customer scan the qrcode and WE(e-corp) deduct the balance from your wallet"
e-coin isnt really a blockchain currency but more like Apple pay..

they did mention bitcoin several times. in relation to the main character messing with a silk road service.

on a separate note there will be a new show called "startup" which is going to predominently about cryptos
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5028002/

though i feel its going to be more aimed at the scammy altcoin arena.

I first thought they were speaking about E-coin (like E-coin.io) then I understood that they were speaking about the evil corp coin.

PM me to buy traffic for your site!
it is nice to see that it is getting mentioned on such things, it definitely adds up to the adoption and in my opinion more people get to know bitcoin

I'm not too sure it's a positive thing, because each time around it gets mentioned in a bad sense, as if only the bad people are the ones using it.
I would like to see bitcoin more often mentioned in media, sure, but for it's technical and economical advantages, and not as a rogue payment system.

Good catch! Startup will air Sept 6 on Crackle here is a review. If you have Roku you can already watch a preview of the first episode based in Miami.

Of course almost everyone who have knowledge in ai and technology really knows about bitcoin.  Robots and bitcoin was the product of never ending evolution of computer technology.  The producer and moreover the writer of that tv series maybe into bitcoin investment also.
