Bitcoin needs altcoins because it is the only thing you can exchange. You don’t want to have a problem exchanging with your bank account so it needs the same cryptocurrency In exchange. It is the same us the currency, dollars need other currency as exchange on different countries.
If there were only bitcoins the network would get overloaded, litecoin for example is much faster
There are no coins like bitcoins which are giving rapid profit to the investors so there is no need to have other coins than bitcoin bit coin can trade across the globe no other coin is still accepted by the market and the same story continues because bitcoin attracts more people toward him as compare to any other coin in market.

Gold if there is no other stone then it is worthless, something will be worth if there is a comparison, if bitcoin without any altcoin then like 1 color in life so do not know performance and comparison.
No. I don't think that Bitcoins need the altcoins. The latter is having a negative effect on the adoption and expansion of Bitcoin. For the altcoins, it is the reverse situation. They can't survive without Bitcoin. If BTC goes down, it will take the alts along with it.
I guess it should be the other way around, altcoin needs bitcoin because technically, altcoin would never exist in the first place without bitcoin. Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency here in the crypto world, it is like the superior amongst all the coins here in the crypto world.

And altcoins are necessary for trading. I think part of what's keeping bitcoin alive is trading, and trading altcoins are insanely popular. So yeah, altcoins are important, even though some may not see it.
Competition, altcoins are needed to bring competition to bitcoin, nothing good comes from a monopoly so by having altcoins there are more ways for people to make money, to receive payments, it gives us the chance to choose the crypto currency that has the best characteristics for what we are looking for.
This is the major reason Bitcoin is soaring. Without altcoins much popularity and worth wouldn't have been accorded the Bitcoin. Like the popular saying, "you can only know the quality of good in the presence of bad." The altcoins chase in the crypto market gives the Bitcoin devs more determination to make it remain top.
For me bitcoin don't really need the altcoins but its good to have a competition it means that bitcoin is really doing good and others want to do the same thing. And altcoins can make every trader rich.

both need each other. i think bitcoin plays a vital role in the growth in the price of altcoin and simultaneously altcoin plays a vital role in the growth of bitcoin. the more and more people comes towards cryptocurrency it will be helpful for both bitcoin and altcoin. but i think the altcoin being junior and bitcoin being mother of all depends upon altcoin more than altcoin or bitcoin.

yes no doubt you are right that bitcoin do not need altcoin and bitcoin is alive without altcoin indeed the value of the bitcoin is the value itself and if there is no altcoin people will consult to bitcoin as the people buy bitcoin the price will already increase so I think bitcoin do not need any kind of altcoin to get famous or to get some more high and valuable. If there's no altcoin then more than 50% of its user will quit bitcoin because then there will be Less possibility of trading and making profit from it. Without altcoin bitcoin is nothing for traders who deal with multiple coins. And also for the market competition altcoin are needed.
That is actually the point. Alternative crypto-currecy serves as an option for those people who invest on bitcoin. Because if you want to start trading you need to have option trading where you trade two or more currency in the market. And I look at it as a friendly competition or a mutual relationship where both side or variable are benefactor for the system. And it also a factor for a huge development of bitcoin so we can see that it is much needed on the system development.

This theory applies tocl cryptocurrency also. Without other coin the price of the coins will not increase and without competitors the project may lead to failure
LOL. I don't consider altcoin are competition. I don't see any competition with Bitcoin. Well Ethereum did try once and the hype was so big that they think that a "flippening" would happened but it didn't. Bitcoin will remain as the top crypto currency, no doubt about it. Only competition is altcoin vs altcoin. However, one value that I'm seeing is that in trading, you can exchange your bitcoin to other altcoin it helps with the liquidity as others have said. Other than that I'm not seeing any value of altcoin to bitcoin in general.

Yes except it, bitcoins needs altcoins because in all of instrument investment needs competitors, it will makes movement of price and the other reasons bitcoins needs altcoins to test bug fix on the altcoins network, for example the activation segwit had been actived on litecoin's network and it was succesfull, so the bitcoins must follow it for bitcoins be better in the future.

While I agree with the things mentioned, it is almost certain that if no altcoins existed, bitcoin's value and popularity would be significantly bigger. This can easily be said for ethereum alone. If it ceased to exist, many more people would invest in bitcoin and that would drive the prices higher.
However, trading and investing in altcoins is one of the best ways to multiply your funds to bitcoins. As the prices can grow or decrease rapidly, it is much easier to make a lot of money or loose it too.

Altcoins are spamming on social medias like Facebook and Twitter. Altcoins aren't just spreading the word about their coin, but they are spreading the word about cryptocurrencies as a whole. That means that includes all the other coins including bitcoins. Once you got into a certain altcoin, it's only a matter of time before you find out that there are other coins but bitcoin is the best among them. We can conclude that altcoins are also promoting bitcoins in a way. I haven't seen someone promoting bitcoins alone. Everyone's promoting their own altcoins.
